@ALNmovie #Movie Review + @IMANcosmetics Lipstick #Beauty Bar @hellobeautiful @shopaddicts #AboutLastNight

About Last Night, Sony Pictures, #AboutLastNight

Pardon me on what has to be the most confusing title ever, but with back to back tradeshows in town and NY Fashion Week madness, I needed to make my title make sense for twitter, so thanks for bearing with me! (I know some of you hate article titles with hashtags, and others that love twitter like me so get this!)

I thought my former film critic days for a popular print publication had spoiled me totally on screenings, but recently I got an invited to a pretty unique advanced screening of Sony Pictures About Last Night, a comedic modern day remake (of the 1986 film) which stars Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant. Upon arrival I knew this was a screening like no other when I walked in on a full Beauty Bar doing touch ups and lips by none other than IMAN Cosmetics! IMAN Cosmetics is the official U.S. Cosmetics Sponsor of the movie and offered a Beauty Bar so attendees (which included a who's who of New York City Based Beauty/Lifestyle Bloggers) a chance to try out the new shades of Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick by IMAN Cosmetics that are worn in the movie by Regina and Joy's characters. This super fun girls night out was also hosted in conjunction with the team from Hello Beautiful!

I have to say I was pretty flattered that everyone thought I had already had mine done, but I had in fact just walked in, and was sporting my signature custom lip blend. I tend to blend my own reds or in the winter/fall I will sometimes go plum but either way I tend to mix my color myself. I do have to say these are pretty wearable out the tube which for me is quite rare, there are five fabulous shades to choose from including (1) Taboo (Plum), (2) Kinky Pink (dark petal), (3) Flirtatious Pink (hot pink), (4) Scandalous (Deep Red), and (5) Hot (Orange).

Here is a little behind the scenes action of the Beauty Bar during the About Last Night Sony Pictures Screening (See Video Below):

I am in the video at 0:20-21 seconds! You will see Dee from Shop Addicts and in the teal sweater is ME! Tracy Iglesias from Ascending Butterfly! (By the way we were posing for the picture I included below when someone filmed us!) The above video is being moderated by one of my fave blogging peeps, Ty from Gorgeous in Grey who I met at BlogHer!

There is another video that focuses directly on the colors in the collection below:

My Take:

I greatly enjoyed the Beauty Bar as it gave us a chance to try out the colors and see which worked for us best. We got to take the Iman Make-Up Kit, Lip Affair lip colors home so I am definitely going to take time to play with the colors and blend them to see how close I come to the color that is my custom signature lip.

The movie is hilarious! Well cast and super funny. I greatly enjoyed it! It's not 'too chick' that guys will get bored, and not too 'man humor', they really did strike a perfect balance, and your face will probably hurt from laughing and smiling so much! It accurately reflects modern day dating with a sense of humor and just the right sentimentality.

No spoilers here, but CHICKEN SCENE, it's TOTALLY worth the price of admission alone!

Exude Lipstick - Lipstick for the 21st century woman! {Review}

Most little girls have that special moment when they play with mommy's makeup, and their life long love with makeup begins. As for me, the only product that held any long term fascination was lipstick. I loved it, and that's the only thing I asked to wear when I was old enough to start wearing makeup (I'm sure mom was relieved!) I love lipstick so much I custom blend my colors and have been doing so for years now. I constantly get stopped in the street to ask me what color I'm wearing. Even makeup counters have asked me who I'm wearing. I'm thinking I really should be custom blending at a high end cosmetics lab! No one has ever seen me in a lipstick straight from the tube in its original formulation because I have yet to find the 'perfect red' right out the tube so I blend it myself!

I wear my signature custom red almost everyday, and I never get tired of it, and it never grows old. Perhaps it's because I custom blend to my skintone and keep all those factors in mind, I can truly carry it off.  I got to play with the nude trend last year at the MakeUp Show, and I will admit the pro who did it, created an all over look with a heavier eye and nude lips that I still think about to this day. While it should be an easy look, I still prefer my signature (custom blended) red to a nude lip any day.

I recently hit on a lipstick that gets high praise from me for reasons including pigment, application, color saturation, staying power and uniqueness of its Brand Messaging and Packaging, a four out of possible five butterflies goes to Exude.

Exude Lipstick Red #1

About Exude Lipstick:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ  - Exude Lipstick was invented by cosmetics industry veterans Diane Breidenbach and Laurence Mille after extensive conversations with both customers and manufacturers pointed to the problems with existing lipstick and lip gloss products. Following years of testing and intensive design work, they have created Exude Lipstick, a lipstick for the 21st century woman.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Exude wants to empower women to embrace fashion in a smart and fun way, and to reinvent themselves and their idea of what beauty can do. To help epitomize the brand's personality, Exude is teaming up with Style Icon Rachel Zoe who will be a brand ambassador. Exude lipstick is as smart as it is beautiful- exactly like the women who will wear it.

PROS:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Because of its revolutionary applicator, Exude is able to retain its shape over time and dispense the exact amount of lipstick users need

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Love the packaging! The boxes have the following written on them:

Forget Eyes - we think a woman's lips are the window to her soul. We watch the mouths as much for what isn't said, as for what is. This is who we are. This is what we exude. What will you exude today?

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Perfect hybrid between a lipstick and a gloss, with richer pigment saturation. Not matte, not overly glossy, a great shine, non-drying!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Virtual Try On! I LOVE this, they offer a variety of models of all shades/skintones, you pick the model that most closely matches your color tone, and then press the lip color you want to try on. You get a very accurate idea of how the color will look on you, BRILLIANT! You do not have to upload your own photo, or spend a great amount of time figuring it out, it's easy, painless and lets you try on every color so you can easily pick your favorite!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - No mess or waste! And they wear well, they don't rub off too easily, so you don't have to reapply constantly.

CONS:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ -  The applicator dispenses the exact amount you should use, but I find I get less color saturation with one click. But 2 clicks give me color transfer on my teeth. If it weren't for that this would have received a full 5 butterflies!

My Take:

As someone who has had favorite lipsticks smush down or melt on me even in cool weather, I love that with Exude that can't happen, it can't get smushed or bent! It really is no mess which I love. I did wear it straight out the tube to try each color out on their own, they are actually just right in the sense that they are not too glossy or too matte, which is VERY hard to find! I did experience some transfer on my teeth which wasn't great right before an impromptu photo, but I will admit I do use more than one click, which I'm probably not supposed to do. But as I have naturally fuller lips I feel I get better color saturation with more than one click. Eventually with all colors I ended up doing my own blending alchemy, but I have to admit I was happy with Exude's Red right out the box, which for me is rare, and is very high praise indeed.

I tried the colors Red #1, Plum and Coral and I can tell you they are all a re-buy! I love red almost every day, but the plum is such a great color for Fall I'll be wearing it often. And the coral is perfect for the 'nude lip effect' and great for summer! If you look at the two different pictures I provided of the 3 colors on my skin, my skintone is a Golden Beige (I have yellow undertones) and I put enough of the color to give a good idea, in the first picture they were first applied and very glossy, and by the second as the color absorbed, and under slightly different light conditions you see a more pure pigment to the color, it's not exactly matte, but wears to a rich color that is not overly or in your face glossy, but it's not matte, and never feels that way, even right before you feel it's time to re-apply, your lips will still feel moisturized.

I definitely feel these are totally worth the money, a definite re-buy! (And no emails on my custom blending techniques! Those will die with me!!!) Keep up with Exude Lipstick on Twitter @exudelipstick or on facebook at Exude Lipstick. (You can always tell them Ascending Butterfly sent you, or you saw the Ascending Butterfly review, and hope they come back for a promo so you can win one too!)

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 - Today's Words of Inspiration and TWO giveaways!

Purple Tuesday

In honor of our Smashbox giveaway launch, I have dubbed this 'Purple Tuesday'! I will wear Purple, and of course I'm listening to Prince's song 'Purple Rain' in the background as I write today.

Purple is the color for Fall this season, although as far I'm concerned Purple never goes out of style, it's a color I'm very fond of! I love it in it's entire shade range from lavendar to Royal. Purple has a special, almost sacred place in nature: lavender, orchid, lilac, and violet flowers are often delicate and considered precious. Because purple is derived from the mixing of a strong warm and strong cool color it has both warm and cool properties. A purple room can boost a child's imagination or an artist's creativity. Too much purple, like the color blue, could result in moodiness.

The color of mourning for widows in Thailand, purple was the favorite color of Egypt's Cleopatra. It has been traditionally associated with royalty in many cultures. Purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank. The Purple Heart is a U.S. Military decoration given to soldiers wounded in battle.

Considering using Purple to decorate this season? Deep or bright purples suggest riches while lighter purples are more romantic and delicate. Use redder purples for a warmer color scheme or the bluer purples to cool down.

There is a lot more to color than meets the eye! Color your space today, color your world!

Use 'Today's Words of Inspiration' as a breathing meditation to still your mind, quiet your thoughts and bring in positive energy. As you inhale bring in only positive energy by saying in your mind, I breathe in positive energy (or you can say creative energy if that is what you wish to create more of) and as you exhale, Affirm out loud today 'I will add color to my life and my space.'

Visualize yourself manifesting something unique, guided by universal forces that emerge spontaneously from within your soul. Do this at least twice today and see how by taking a moment away from the hectic pace and breathing in positive energy and affirming what you wish to create, your thinking will become different.Remember, attitude really does determine altitude.
