My New York Fashion Week Pick for most fun show? @kyboeofficial #KYBOE #KYBOEStyle #NYFW

New York Fashion Week 2016 is in my rearview mirror, and I got to 'front row at the Fashion Show' for quite a few shows this year, but you know it is my custom to share the show I found most unique first.

This year's pick is definitely KYBOE! who offered a very 'timely' show. Pun definitely intended as they are a watch brand!

Want to see how does a 'timepiece' does Fashion Week?

Here are shots of mine in action:

From Left to Right: Three Bloggers Showing off their new KYBOE! Watches, I'm the one in the center, no surprise I picked Rose Gold right? (Notice the Rose Gold Ring). In shot two I'm checking the time, don't want to be late for the show, shot three - the BOWL neon sign is from Lucky Strike where the After Party for the Fashion Show was held (one of the After Parties anyway there were actually TWO) and the last shot was taken at Lucky Strike Bowling Alley pointing to a sign that reads: "Stay Out of The Gutter" - very cheeky!

A Quick Slideshow Video of the Show (using only my own photos) - there are WAY more photos and I promise a Pinterest Board will happen once I come up for air (when it does the words 'Pinterest Board' will actually be clickable)

MY TAKE:

KYBOE! is definitely a brand to watch, their timepieces are fun, unique and fashionable and can easily take you from work to play with ease.

I still prefer a quality watch to checking my cellphone for the time, and I love that KYBOE! Watches come in a wide variety of colors and if you are feeling really fancy you can get the version of the watch that offers crystals around the dial. I also love the one touch button to light the watch up making it easier when you are checking the time in a dark room or out and about at night. (See photo four in the photo collage above - the shot on the far right shows the watch lit).

And aren't you proud of me butterflies? I veered away from selecting the typical 'NY Black' watch. (Honestly I was torn on colors - I also wanted the 'spearmint' color because I have a pair of sneakers in that color - but ultimately went with the White/Rose Gold Option because they match my favorite headphones - remember THESE? - I will take a shot of me with the watch and headphones on at the same time so you can see how cute they go together!)

Readers Sound Off: Check Out Their Site and Let Us Know Which Color Would YOU choose for your KYBOE! watch?

Did you miss Latinista #Fashion Week? Highlights from @LatinistaFW including @cesargalindo “Czar” Collection SS14 #LatinistaFW

The Solo Event Space in New York City was the weekend hot spot where Latinista Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 took place!

Latinista Fashion Week is a twice yearly event that takes place during Fashion Week in NYC, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves as a platform for emerging Latin Designers to showcase their collection to both perspective Buyers as well as the Press.

As a top 100 Latina Blogger and Top 3 Big Apple Tweeter I had front row access this weekend to the shows that were kicked off by a welcome reception with Piel Canela Dancers who greeted the crowd by dancing Salsa and also kicked off Cesar Galindo's runway show with their energetic dancing!

The welcome reception before the show, was sponsored by Iman Cosmetics, who touched up my makeup and let me try out their BB Cream, Mirta de Perales, a hair care brand that is very well known to the Latina community who were handing out samples of their Linea Keratina (Keratin line of hair products) as well as their Collagen Elastin Face and Neck Cream with Vitamins A & E - which I definitely can't wait to try out! There were also haircare samples provided by Garnier Fructis of their Hydra Recharge line with Fruit Beads. Nail Lounge NY offered guests manicures (I didn't want to take off my recent mani from ten over ten since it was a color for Fall that hasn't even launched yet that I got at the Elements Showcase (more to come on that event soon!) so I didn't try out Nail Lounge NY but hope to try them out in the future!), Kiss Nail Dress also provided samples, I received the Classic Nail Dress in 'Garter' which I can't wait to put on! And not to be missed was the signature cocktail of the evening, 'The Latinista' of course, sponsored by Tequila Semental.

Here are some Photo Highlights for you to enjoy:

My Take:

I think it's amazingly important that both established and especially emerging Latin Designers have a forum and a showcase to share their talent and designs! Kudos to Latinista Fashion Week Founder, Dee Rivera, and Latina Magazine (exclusive official Media Partner) for joining forces to bring this multi-day branded entertainment environment together! They are providing opportunities for Fashion Designers and Sponsors to come face-to-face with not only principal tastemakers, celebs, musical talent and Media to meet but also consumers who are hungry for whats new, now and NEXT. I enjoyed the show and found many of the Fashion to be extremely approachable and wearable right off the runway. One of my standout faves was the purple dress, it was a standout color (that some wouldn't immediately associate with summer but I just love wearing year round) and it was so 'airy' and 'flowy' just perfect for summer resortwear!

{Not So} Wordless Wednesday: New Haircut by Mark on Madison Edition! {#Photos}

Yesterday we talked about the Orgullosa Community, and that leads into my not so Wordless Wednesday today. In one of the facebook groups I belong to, one of the bloggers posted a call for New Yorkers who wanted to try out a new salon to let her know. With the year and a half I just went through, while I didn't make formal 'New Year's Resolutions', one of the things I promised myself this year is that I would not just embrace, but actually make change in my life. I know that this year won't be different if I approach it the same way, and do the same things.

I want 2013 to be a whole new year, one where I strive to balance taking more time for myself and still meeting the demands of an ever-changing constantly on the go schedule. Spending so much time last year in the hospital made my hair change a bit because of everything I went through including the crazy meds. So honestly when this opportunity opened up it was a total no brainer for me. And so I decided when I agreed to take it that I would truly let the salon go nuts and make my hair over totally.

Although true to my nature I did do my research!

About Mark on Madison:

Mark landed an apprenticeship with world-renowned hairstylist John Barrett at his Bergdoff Goodman salon (and you can best believe that the iconic salon located on the penthouse floor of Bergdoff Goodman in the heart of Manhattan must have been one amazing training ground as the women there expect no less than the best!)

Mark boasts quite a roster of celeb clientele (I won't name drop here, but you can check out his site www.markonmadison.com for a list).

Mark has worked with publications such as Sports Illustrated and Vanity Fair!

He has also worked a wide variety of high profile events including The Academy Awards, New York Fashion Week and Good Morning America!

Here is my Before:

Left: Ascending Butterfly, Right: Mark Borukhov of Mark on Madison Salon, NYC

I arrived with well below my shoulders curly hair! The first thing he told me was 'throw out your flat iron!' - As a life long wavy girl I wasn't sure at first how possible that would be for me as I normally prefer to wear my hair straight.

Here is my During:

Mark styles Ascending Butterfly at Mark on Madison Salon in New York City

Mark created long side parted fringe layers instead of bangs! He also blew out my hair in what has to be an Olympic Record Speed, and showed me how to section my hair for not only faster results, but also less breakage!

Here is my after:

Mark finalizes the style and the look is complete! Mark on Madison Salon, NYC

Voila!

My Take:

Mark took the time to understand what my real day-to-day is like and gave me his signature cut which not only frames my face, but he also took the time to teach me step by step how to maintain it, so when I left the salon I could keep the same style up at home with less effort than before. He also gave me product recommendations and helped de-bunked one of my product myths. I often avoided products that were labelled for 'curly' hair since I tend to wear my straight, but the for curly products he used on my hair worked well for me, and made me re-consider what I have been using at home.

And when I told him that I love my waves, I just hate the frizz, he gave me ideas to help achieve 'Beachy Waves' but avoid the frizz. He told after washing my hair to try gathering it like making a ponytail, then twist it clockwise and put it in a bun and sleep with it (works best for me with hair towel-dried because I have thin, fine hair that is very frizz prone) and then wake up and just rake the waves with my fingers, and then blow dry the front if I wanted it to be sleeker in the front or on top. I love that idea because it's actually workable for me since I have very little time in the morning. Thankfully I'm already using the right brushes (he recommended blow drying my hair with a boar bristle brush), which helps to make the process not only easier but also produce the desired results.

Oddly enough I went in finally ready to commit to a bigger change, and he didn't really feel I needed it. I don't have grays yet, so he didn't really feel a one process color would be a good idea for my hair type. And because I told him I do take the time out to try and wear my hair straighter, he didn't want me to take off a lot of length.

And if a great cut and styling, way faster than I even expected wasn't enough, we also went to a local coffee shop and talked 'shop' for awhile, you have to love a stylist who splits a cheesecake with you! If that's not down to earth I don't know what is!

I highly recommend Mark! And I also love that I found him on a New York City Bloggers forum, I love when bloggers share great leads! I'm not sure I would have found this salon without the recommendation, so word of mouth definitely pays off!

If you like your Fashion Shows with Ineptitude and a Side of Pretention then by all means @Moroccanoil sponsored @GenArt is your kind of show!

It's been exactly FOUR years since I encountered a level of ineptitude so annoying it warranted a post. I avoid snark like the plague, and normally follow the centuries old sage advice that if I can't find something nice to say about something or someone not to say anything at all. And normally that's exactly what I do. Today I break my amazing record.

Above is the visual image of the invite that I received for today's GenArt's Fresh Faces in Fashion show, below is the email I received inviting me to the event:

I submitted my RSVP to both the address on the invite AND the rep, Page Jeter. I even tweeted after sending my RSVP to both @GenArt and the Sponsor @Moroccanoil, perhaps now in hindsight I should have seen it as a sign that @GenArt didn't even have the courtesy to reply to the tweet, but the show sponsor did, here is their reply:

We're stoked too! MRT @Ascending1: @GenArt Just put in my RSVP I am super stoked for the @Moroccanoil sponsored GenArt Fresh Faces...

===================================

It was shades of my recent nightmare experience with Samsung at BlogHer all over again (while I didn't write about that, I did tweet about it, Samsung told me and a few other bloggers during a holiday preview they were hosting we were not 'real press' but anyway I digress, back to today's #failwhale), I arrived early, well before 3:30 pm to be told that 'legitimate press would get the red carpet' and 'just bloggers' were being asked to line up and wait until 4pm to get in. Fine. We were asked to form a line to the left, and then separate people were told to the right, and then just before a quarter to 4pm, they tell us all the line should form to the right, so those of us who were already lined up on the left had to join an existing long line that had been formed on the right despite us all asking which line was the right one. The women at the door couldn't find my name on the list, they ask me to stand to the side, and after watching more than half the line go in, I asked again to speak to Page as she had sent the invite.

I then get told to make another line inside called the 'media line', they also couldn't find my name, and they too asked me to 'stand aside'. I was standing next to the mother of one of the designers who they also wouldn't let in. But oddly enough it seemed if you weren't on the list but was wearing a skirt whose hemline barely covered your underwear, you could just walk right in. The person who took my card kept asking Page what to do, and Page kept walking away and not answering. Finally one grabbed her arm, and said but Page the person said you invited her (this is all within earshot by the way), and she glances at me and said 'I highly doubt it.'. I'd like to know why she highly doubted that SHE invited me? Hopefully the email above will jog both hers, ROGERS&COWAN and GenArt's memory.

Finally they let the designers mom in and since I was standing next to her, I was told that Page said I could just go in and 'stand and watch the show' while people who arrived well after me, some also who weren't on the list were sitting. REALLY? As the young lady was very helpful, I politely declined the option to stand and watch the show and did alert her that she should let Page know that Ascending Butterfly would be posting TONIGHT.

I opted not to stand and watch the show, and stop and post about the abominable treatment instead.

Where in the invite above does it say I was invited to stand and watch the show? I for one don't see it and I can assure you I didn't cut out or edit their email in any way.

So apparently both GenArt and Samsung don't feel Bloggers are 'legimate press'? There are blogs whose monthly site hits run rings around many magazines at this point!

I don't want the generic statement back from anyone at GenArt saying not to hold them responsible for the PR Firm's lack of organization. I won't accept that as a response because I spent a majority of my professional career in conference management and I took responsibility for the actions of each and every member of my team, from door staff to wait staff to account managers. I trained and empowered my staff so when something above and beyond a piece of paper went down they knew how to handle it.

I am absolutely outraged by the pretentiousness, the obnoxious attitudes and downright ineptitude of GenArt's PR firm, ROGERS&COWAN and the so called 'Group Manager', Page Jeter. Honestly, SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!

I am so thankful that I never wanted to niche myself, and today was exactly the reason why I never wanted to, I am so glad that my content is not dependent on any single person, event or brand to remain current, fresh and resonate with my readers.

And it couldn't be more odd that this happens literally days before a twitter party where I am a Featured Guest called:

Bloggers to Brands: Best Practices for Working Together

The twitter party will be hosted this Thursday, September 13th at 1pm EST, and I encourage all my fellow bloggers as well as brands and PR firms to get in on that chat and learn how to work together, NICELY!

Readers thanks for letting me VENT. I rarely ever need to, but I'm glad you guys are there for me when I do!

Kardashian Kollection for @searsStyle during New York Fashion Week! #NYFW12

TGIF Butterflies! How did you all make out during Fashion Night Out last night? What are your highlights, best deals, and favorite scores?

I survived Fashion Night Out and got the chance to attend a special Bloggers Brunch today hosted by SearsStyle at Bagatelle Bistro in New York City!

For the most part I have always had a love/hate relationship with Fashion week, it's a non-stop event marathon, which on a good day can be exhausting, (the tired feet is the HATE part), but I love getting sneak peeks of Fashion Trends (definitely the LOVE part). I really love events where the Fashion that is presented is actually feasible and wearable, and I don't just mean budget wise. While some Fashions are very beautiful, not many are actually 'do-able' for most people in their day-to-day lives straight off the runway. I like Fashion that's approachable, I want to add pieces to my collection that I can wear to work, that make sense for events, and then even on weekends when I can be more casual, I still want style!

So when I received the event invite from SearsStyle I was definitely excited, I can't think of any city I have visited that I couldn't find a Sears, and I have one very close to home as well. While Sears is probably  the first name in mind when you are appliance shopping, or you may even think of them for your Automotive needs, they might not have been the first name that came to mind when clothes fashion shopping, but hopefully they will be now!

Much like Missoni for Target, where snagging exclusive pieces had them selling out in stores and on-line, Sears Style is hoping to achieve similar results with the Kardashian Kollection for Sears. Like the Missoni for Target collection, the Kardashian Kollection will also offer exclusive pieces that can only be found at Sears! The collection was designed by the Kardashian Sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney in conjunction with Jupi Corporation.

In fact the keynote speaker at the Brunch was Fashion Designer and Jupi Corporation President, Bruno Schiavi!

Here are some pictures of the Fashions:

I am totally digging the zig zag dress paired with that eye catching red handbag, how about you? Not sure if you can read the signs, the left side are Kardashian Kollection and the right side is Covington!

Had to get a closer shot of the dress and red handbag, under sunlight I see this dress truly requires a good slip! :)

If you are getting the strong feeling that Black, White and RED are my favorite color combos, you are RIGHT!

One of the event highlights? The Denim Bar, we got to go home with the Jeans of OUR choice from a very wide assortment!

The Jeans on the very left are fully REVERSIBLE, with animal print on one side and an indigo denim on the other side. BRILLIANT! If you love to travel but hate carrying tons of stuff, these are a lifesaver!

Don't you just love the denim in COLOR? I wish the red had been available in my size, I would have JUMPED on them for sure!

This shot of my Bloody Mary Cocktail taken at Bagatelle Restaurant was shot with my iPod, the ones above with my Kodak Camera!

I was awesomely surprised to finally find a great Bloody Mary Cocktail in the City as the best one I've tasted so far was at The Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, this one is just as good and WAY closer to home. By the way, the food, cocktails and service were wonderful at Bagatelle!

My Take:

The Kardashian Sisters understand how to design for Women with Curves, and the fact that they put this collection in Sears Stores makes it super affordable and accessible, it's a stylish collection that is well designed and works well no matter what your style, they also have a collection of handbags and accessories as well as bedding and items for home.

I may not be able to take you all to events with me, but hopefully via photos you can see the great events I get to attend through my eyes! Once Fashion Week is over, I'm really going to need a NAP! :)

You may remember in February of this year during New York Fashion Week that Ascending Butterfly and The Lorax made the cover of page 6. It was a Wordless Wednesday Post that month, and you can check it out here to refresh your memory. Here is the picture:

I love taking pictures with Mascots, so it was fun getting photos with the Lorax both at Fashion week and now again at BlogHer 2012! (The way some people stalk celebrities, I stalk mascots to take photos!)

I know what are you thinking, but butterfly I thought we were going to go retro this week and keep focusing exclusively on inspiration, well in way we are! The thing I love about hanging out with my nieces, nephews and Godchildren is that I get to re-visit my inner child in a healthy way.

Remember that sweet time of your life, where every stranger became a friend solely by knowing their name? Remember when love was the one thing worth risking everything for? ~ Ascending Butterfly

What we do to find love is our journey! Professional success is wonderful, but finding someone to share the fruit of your labors, makes those fruits that much sweeter.

As an adult is love so simple? Probably not, but it's not quite as complicated as we make it either.

Today's Challenge: Ask yourself: How far would I go for real love? Could you put yourself out there completely?

MY TAKE:

As I loved Despicable Me, I had no doubt I'd love The Lorax too. I am long time Dr. Seuss fan and I am happy to pass along that tradition with the little ones in my life.
