NBA Baller Beats - Preview Event Recap, Pictures, Video and Game Review!

Majesco Entertainment's NBA Baller Beats is now out and I finally get to share my recap from the preview event that was hosted by two-time NBA Champ Kenny Smith and WNBA All-Star Essence Carson!

NBA Baller Beats Video Game for the Xbox360 Kinect in Retail Packaging

About NBA Baller Beats:

The first ever full-body motion-based NBA video game that lets players use a real ball to gain real skills. Players of all skill levels – from rookie to pro – will dribble to the beat of popular and chart-topping music tracks, across various genres including hip-hop, rock, and old school favorites from artists like Kanye West, Common, Queen, Skrillex, Wiz Khalifa, Rise Against, Santigold, and many more. NBA Baller Beats will come packaged with an official Spalding® NBA game ball replica and will make its debut exclusively on Kinect™ for Xbox 360® on September 11, 2012.

NBA Baller Beats challenges players to time their dribble to the beat of each song and perform a variety of skill moves displayed on-screen to score points, earn achievements and unlock assets and additional gameplay. Players are challenged to perfect 20 different baller moves and increase their stamina in single player mode, break it down and practice different skills in Move School mode or show-off in multiplayer mode and go head-to-head against up to 8 players. To maximize their performance, gamers can visit the extensive in-game tutorial where two-time NBA champion and Emmy Award-winning TNT NBA analyst Kenny Smith dishes tips for success.

Check out Video from the Preview Event:

I also had the opportunity to do a one on one interview with Essence Carlson, but because we weren't miked up you can't hear the video so I'm not including it here. I will try to re-shoot with her as soon as her schedule permits.

Here are some cool pictures from the preview event:

My Take:

I love music and I love the challenge of trying to dribble in time to the beat which is not as easy as the pros shown in the demo make it look. The game is fun, fast-paced and helps you improve your skills, and hand-eye coordination. I would definitely recommend you add this game to your holiday shopping list, it's the perfect gift for that Basketball AND Music lover in your life!

A few tips: Look at the screen instead of the ball. Stay low and bend at the Knees as it will help improve your game and your score, it also helps you work up a sweat, this game is NOT as simple as it looks!

Weekly Moment of Gratitude - The Thank YOU + Pre #BlogHer12 edition!

What I am grateful for:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - YOU! -  Yes that's right YOU! Ascending Butterfly has certainly evolved quite a bit throughout the years, and while the transition to 'living out loud' as a blogger hasn't always been an easy one (I'm more comfortable behind the scenes, except for a brief stint on TV as a child), it has expanded my life both personally and professionally in ways I never dreamed were even possible. Throughout my whole medical nightmare that started last year the emails that I received from readers (and even from brands and PR firms that I have worked with throughout the years) has been incredibly heartwarming & encouraging to me. On Tuesday I made a post that was a personal entry to a contest, and I was literally floored that my humble call to action was embraced and acted upon by so many of you. Your tweets in support of my entry really means a lot to me, and win or lose, just having that many of you show me your support filled my heart with gratitude this week so I knew it had to be my first entry in this week's moment of gratitude. Thank You! Hopefully I'll be one of the five winners of an awesome makeover by Windows during BlogHer! (Can you believe BlogHer is now just *days* away!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Fun! - Sometimes being a blogger can be filled with random, goofy fun. This week I attended gaming  previews for both Ubisoft and Majesco and got to try out Video Games like Zombii U for the new Wii U gaming system from Nintendo, FarCry 3, Assassins Creed 3, NBA Baller Beats and many, many more which will all get their own reviews as we get closer to their release dates. In case you missed it, I got Zombiefied with ZombiiU and posted a cool Zombie photo of me as my Wordless Wednesday this week. My schedule doesn't often permit me to play video games very often, so getting the chance to 'just play' and demo new games was super fun! I actually got to meet an NFL player during one of my game demos and a few retired players as well!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Counting my Blessings!-  While I still have a ways to go, I got great news during my recent medical visit, and I feel like I can slowly starting putting it all behind me and focus on the road ahead!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Getting Caught Up - I'm pretty much caught up on posts that needed to go live before BlogHer, which will allow me to really focus my energies next week on the conference! If you are going to the conference I'd love to meet as many of you as possible in person! Post a comment here if you are attending BlogHer!

What are YOU most grateful for this week Butterfly?

What are you grateful for today? I'd love for you to write in and share what you are grateful for this week. The more you say it, the more you speak it, and the more you live in gratitude, the more you will find reasons to be grateful for, and the more reasons that the universe will send you to be grateful for. So join me on this journey of gratitude and inspiration. And you can post here daily (even though my list will be posted weekly).

Wordless Wednesday: Butterfly Zombie! Rated 'S' for Scary!

Happy Wordless Wednesday Butterflies, I recently got Zombified at a Ubisoft Media Preview Day where I got to play ZombiU™, a Survival Horror First-Person Shooter game for the Nintendo Wii U™, a new console that includes a controller with a 6.2-inch screen. Horror has always been my favorite movie genre so I jumped at the chance to test this game out. I actually got the chance to try out a ton of new games that will be hitting the market later in the year, and all of them, including this one, will get more extensive review coverage as they are closer to their market release dates, but in the meantime I just had to share my zombie picture with you!

Notice I am wearing a pair of butterfly earrings? LOL

If this picture isn't proof I really need that #windowstyle makeover that I let you know I'm entering for in yesterday's post, then I don't know what is!

If you'd like to see your favorite butterfly blogger go from Chrysalis to Butterfly, please send a quick tweet to @kristinalibby with the hashtag #windowstyle

Here is a sample tweet:

@KristinaLibby Pls pick @Ascending1 to go from Chrysalis to #Butterfly during #BlogHer12 with a #windowstyle #Makeover ow.ly/ctBRS

I didn't have time to make a formal linky, but as always you are more than welcome to link us to your Wordless Wednesday this week by commenting below!

Happy Wordless Wednesday Butterfly!

Horse Haven Facebook Application by Ubisoft {#Review}

The first summer my family visited a Dude Ranch in Pennsylvania I fell in love with Horses. I was still pretty young and was going to take my first beginner ride, I was supposed to take it on a Pony, but somehow I convinced them I was ready for a 'real horse' because I was a 'big girl'.

It worked (more than likely with a lot of help from my mom), and all weekend I rode 'real horses'. I followed the ranch hands like a shadow and I got to brush the horses, feed them apples, and form a life long fascination with the most amazing animals out there. How they carry so much weight on the most delicate legs and ankles has always amazed me.

The feeling the first time I rode fast on a horse is the closest a person can get to understanding how a bird feels when they take flight. Fast, wild, free and un-tamed, it's the best feeling ever. I still love to ride and it's become the most unique part of my vacations. I look for a stable or a ranch wherever I go, and one of my most memorable rides was through ancient ruins and then on the beach in an ecological park in Mexico.

Would I love to own a Ranch someday? YES!

Can I afford to? Not just yet!

But thanks to Ubisoft I can own a virtual horse ranch AND do something to actually help an animal rescue. I have a longtime love/hate relationship with my facebook friends, for years they have spent time sending me invites to their farms, sororities, vampires, mobs and more. I declined each and every one. There is only one facebook application of the game variety I ever tried and that was Willy's Sweet Shop which helped to benefit one of my favorite charitable organizations ever, St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. I would check in with it daily. And of course I invited my facebook friends, and very few opted to 'play' along with me. Which did bum me out, but perhaps it was a bit of revenge because I showed no interest in their mobs or farms. That's OK, I still love them *smiles*.

So after a year of being a UbiChamp, this is sadly only my second time around sharing some fun Ubisoft news, you might remember my first share which was a review of  Abba You can Dance for Wii. Not that I don't love being a UbiChamp, but my schedule hasn't quite allowed for a lot of free time lately. I did feel a strong draw to try out this Facebook App because of the charitable component tied into playing the game and my life long love of horses.

Description

Horse Haven is a new Facebook social network game allowing you to raise, nurture, and breed horses. Experience the thrill of being a horse ranch owner—maintain buildings and stables, care for horses, compete against friends in special horse competitions, and much more!

As the sole inheritor of a once champion horse ranch now fallen into disrepair, you must find a way to return it to its former ...glory. With just a few rundown buildings—a stable, a farmstead, and some deteriorated drinking troughs and hayracks—you will only have a short amount of time to turn the horse ranch around. With only one lonely foal to start with you’ll need to expand your stable through a combination of breeding and nurturing. In Horse Haven you will experience the excitement and hardships of owning and running your very own horse ranch!

The Game

BREED UNIQUE AND EXCITING HORSES

Build a unique stable of horses through Horse Haven’s distinct breeding mechanics. Choose from five unique American horse breeds and more than 20 skin patterns, 20 body markings, and 10 facial markings, create hundreds of different types of horses, and then show them off to friends!

NURTURE AND CARE FOR YOUR HORSES

Develop a close personal connection with your horses through a variety of nurturing and caring tasks. As you spend more time feeding, watering, petting, and brushing your horses, they will progress to competing with other horses on Facebook. Find out whose horse is the best!

RANCH RESTORATION AND EXPANSION

When the game begins, your ranch consists of only a few run-down buildings—a stable, a farmstead, and some deteriorating drinking troughs and hay racks. Fix up the ranch up and return it to its former glory! Then, add new assets and expand your property. Erect buildings that allow horses to earn money, enhance their training, or broaden their breeding insights. You can even customize your ranch and its surrounding land with decorations to match your horses and their needs.

NEW ADVENTURES AND COMPETITIONS

At the end of each care cycle your stable of horses will go on adventures and participate in competitions! Whether it’s barrel racing, show jumping, or jump racing, make sure your horses are prepared to go for the gold!

How YOU give back by playing

Playing Horse Haven allows players to give to an actual Horse Rescue that is working to save America's Horses, Angel Acres Horse Rescue, which is a Non-Profit Organization. Instead of spending 10 minutes reading status updates, give up just a few of those and add Horse Haven to your daily Facebook routine. Doing so my butterflies would be a double win/win, playing the game is a fun way to de-stress between online activities (think after a long photo intensive blog post that got you all stressed out, or a long spreadsheet, or powerpoint presentation), and that simple 'game' also benefits a real life horse rescue. Talk about win/win.

My Take:

I've always loved finding ways that are totally do-able to give back. Giving to me has always been more than just taking out a checkbook and writing a check, I share and give with time as well as money, and with my competitive personality I knew I'd want to progress along as fast as possible with the game, the more achievements I unlock the better I feel about playing because I know my efforts with this game go beyond bragging rights, they really mean something. And that's exactly what being an Ascending Butterfly means to ME.

So any of my butterflies who decide to give Horse Haven a go, have a ranch friend in me, feel free to reach out here and we can become Horse Haven friends, we can help  make each other's Dude Ranch' fantastic and give back in the process!

ABBA You can Dance Wii {REVIEW}

I am a Clever Girls Collective Member and was selected this year to be a UbiChamp, unfortunately my erratic schedule meant I wasn't fast enough on the email draw to get in on some of the earlier campaigns this year (total SMURFS envy - ah! I digress....), I shamelessly begged my way in to the Abba You Can Dance Campaign and hosted a 70's themed party this weekend!

To say this year has been a mixed bag is a total understatement and we all needed something fun to focus our energies on!

My butterfly pals who sadly are not so keen on pictures (they are not bloggers and don't get the whole 'live your life out loud' concept of blogging)  threatened me with bodily harm with their heavy platform shoes, so this post won't be as picture happy as my usual. We had wig power, flower power, platforms, bellbottoms and quite a number of peace sign graphic tee shirts in attendance.

When I loaded the game, my Wii decided it needed an update, so while it updated, we put in the order for pizza and sodas.

The first surprise was that this game has a Karoake component to it, I didn't know that, and everyone agreed to start there. After a ton of howling (ahem, I mean singing), dogs began barking, and finally pizza arrived. After a brief pizza break where we discussed everyone's singing, it was agreed that the grown ups would switch to adult beverages, while the teens were offered snacks and treats! We all agreed that none of us should quit our day jobs. No 'The Voice' in our group! :)

And then the fun really begins. We couldn't agree on which song to start with for the dance part, so we decided we'd play them ALL! That was quite an undertaking as we had quite a few players! (Up to four players can play at the same time so long as you have the four remotes!)

We all danced to:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Angeleyes
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - As Good As New
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Bang-A-Boomerang
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Dancing Queen (two versions available)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Does Your Mother Know
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Fernando
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Head Over Heels
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Hole In Your Soul
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Honey, Honey
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I'm A Marionette
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - If It Wasn't For The Nights
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Knowing Me, Knowing You
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Lay All Your Love On Me
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Mamma Mia
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Money, Money, Money
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - People Need Love
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - SOS
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Summer Night City
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Super Trouper
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Take A Chance On Me
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - The Winner Takes It All
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Voulez-vous
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Waterloo
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - When I Kissed The Teacher

I will say I wish I had been able to snap photos of everyone, particularly the guys doing these dances. One of the songs is actually danced with ballet steps, and the hilarity ensued watching the guys doing their best 'black swan' imitations!

Everyone wanted to steal my Disco Ball! As I wasn't willing to part with it, I offered up a Disco Ball Key Chain to the highest score of the night!

This game is not restricted to Abba Fans, if you like Dance style games, you will definitely want to add this one to your collection! I can tell you they are NOT easy, they really make you work! You work up quite a sweat dancing along with this game.

If like me, you are an Abba Fan, you'll love that the band's videos and some live performances are part of the background to the songs so you follow along with the instructor, and you also see the Band at the same time playing the song which I thought was pretty cool.

And not to get too heavy on the spoilers, but make sure you have a rug setup where you do this, you will be hitting the floor for one of the routines and your knees will thank you if you remember to put something soft underneath them! (And well, not to brag or anything, well OK maybe just a little, but I got a 'PERFECT!' cheer from the game for that part of the dance, YAY me!)

You get a score at the end of the dance as well as star achievements, 5 stars are NOT easy to earn! Plan to start your play early in the day if you are competitive and want those 5 stars before you go to bed. :)

Much like a good book that you just can't put down, you'll find yourself unable to play just one song with Abba You can Dance!

Ascending Butterfly's 2011 Holidays Buying Guide, Giveaway #7 brought to you by:

Teen Corner

I have a confession, I grew up watching wrestling. And get this, it wasn't my Dad who introduced me to wrestling (he died when I was way too young), it was  my MOM. We'd watch wrestling together faithfully, and yell at the TV screen often! We had our favorites as well as the 'bad' guy wrestlers we hated, and I remember totally having a school girl crush on Ricky The Dragon Steamboat!

I don't watch it now as often as I used to, but my crush on Ricky changed over to The Rock, and a few years ago I won local radio station tickets to go to Madison Square Garden and catch a Wrestling event there and my friends thought I had won the lottery! I felt like a kid again while at the Garden, I was yelling along and having a great time!

Earlier this Fall I attended a Holidays Preview event in New York City where I had the opportunity to preview Fall Video Game releases from Majesco Entertainment. They contacted me in advance of the event and asked me to forward along the info to other tri-state based bloggers, which I was super stoked about! The event felt like a happy East Coast Bloggers reunion of sorts! They had game areas set up where we had a chance to try out each game, talk to game designers, compete against one another, try great cocktails and pick on great appetizers to help keep up our energy while we tried out the games.

I enjoyed playing all the games, but one game honestly did stand out above the rest, yep you guessed it, it was a wrestling game. And not just any wrestling game. It was Hulk Hogan's Main Event! The ultimate wrestling 'good guy' (OK I do remember his brief walk on the wrestling 'dark side' but I choose to forget it!). I'm a New York city girl, a self confessed Tom Boy and a wrestling fanatic, this video game is SO me. I get to beat up a bad guy and let out my city stress and aggression in a decidedly healthy way!

I had a blast playing this game, I had trouble picking it up at first, to which every guy around the demo area (including the one teaching me the game) all yelled in unison 'Stop hitting like a girl!', and much like Hulk Hogan, who tends to come back strong toward the end of the match, I let it all go, all inhibitions flew out the window and I got the hang of it! I let the computer (and the doubters) have it! I can't wait to play this one with my older nephew! You best believe I am going to practice my butt off!

About Hulk Hogan's Main Event

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄ƷHulk Hogan, wrestling icon and global sensation serves as your mentor and coach showing you the ropes on delivering the best show for the crowd.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Perform 50+ unique jaw dropping special attacks, general moves and stunts as the Kinect sensor tracks your every punch and kick.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Build Your Ultimate Wrestler: Create your ring superstar by choosing body type, face, gear and more!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - It's all about showmanship so whether you're giving the hits, taking the damage or selling the pain, your goal is to get the crowd roaring with your best performance to achieve the highest score.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Multiple Gameplay Modes:
  • Campaign (Story): Work your way from backyard matches to the big stage while keeping the crowd on their feet.
  • Head-to-Head: Take turns delivering punishing combos with a friend. <- SO FUN!
  • Quick Stunt: Launch into any extreme stunt you want to practice.

  • Tutorial: Learn basic moves and special stunts to become the best. <- ♥ the tutorials!

  • Perform in 9 radically different venues including the backyard, local gym and Inferno stadium in front of a massive, roaring crowd. Use a variety of damaging props and objects including metal chairs and ladders to excite the crowd and deliver extreme pain to your rivals.
  • Xbox LIVE Leaderboards showcase Stunt of the Day and All Time Best Stunts from players nationwide. <-Look out Leaderboards Here I Come!

 My Take:

I am super lucky that my mom never defined activities by gender, and I got to try Karate, Horseback Riding and even Wrestling at an early age. Hulk Hogan's Main Event was my standout favorite from the Fall preview event, I'm probably biased because I am a wrestling fan, but I could definitely see non-wrestling fans enjoying the game as well.

The Tutorials are helpful, and playing the computer will help you hone your skills and get more advanced, but this game is so much more fun when you play with your friends! It will definitely have you all laughing in no time! The only other games that make me laugh as much for group play are the singing/Karoake games.

This game is ONLY available for the 360, which I hope changes, I hope it gets offered for the Wii as well!

Because this is a wrestling game (ie yes folks there is violence) it's rated T for teen!

I can only hope someone from the great minds at Majesco develop a video game for The Rock! (Dwayne Johnson if you are reading this, I get a cut! And a signed copy. Hopefully personally delivered by you, OK I digress......)

You didn't think I'd forget about you right? Who loves you butterfly?
