One of my favorite escapes before Thanksgiving and the Holiday Shopping frenzy begins, is to take a movie break, it definitely makes things easier when the kiddos get restless while you are shopping! I remember reading Rapunzel when I was a little girl! I'm looking forward to seeing this movie!

My apologies, this was meant to post pre-release, but to say this week has been insane would be an absolute understatement. On Friday, October 8th Disney released the movie 'Secretariat', which chronicles the spectacular journey of the 1973 Triple Crown winner. The first U.S. Triple Crown champion in 25 years, setting race records that still stands today in the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. In 1973, Secretariat also graced the covers of three magazine covers in the same week, Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated.  In 1999, the U.S. Postal Service unveiled a 33-cent postage stamp with Secretariat’s image!

Secretariat Fun Facts:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Secretariat’s heart was twice the size of an average horse’s heart.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths and still holds the record time at 2:24 for 1.5 miles.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Secretariat was ranked the 35th Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century by ESPN.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ -  During the peak of Secretariat’s career, the William Morris Agency would book the horse’s appearances the same way they would any of their other (two legged) mega celebrity clients.

I was invited to a sneak preview during BlogHer, but wasn't able to sneak away and sent a representative in my stead, who said something about the movie immediately afterwards that has still stuck with me:

"This is an amazing story that chronicles not just Secretariat, but a woman who by necessity was very much ahead of her time."

I honestly don't think I could have summed it up better!

I love reading stories about strong women who triumph despite the obstacles thrown in their path. Penny Chenery (Played in the movie by Diane Lane) agrees to take over her ailing father’s Virginia-based Meadow Stables. Chenery, with the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), manages to navigate the male-dominated business, ultimately fostering the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years! No small feat!

I have had life long love of horses, since my first trip to a Dude Ranch in Pennsylvannia when I was five. By the end of that trip I quickly graduated from pony to riding horses, and wanted to become a cowgirl (in addition to being a Doctor) when I grew up!

I have to start out by admitting I'm a bit biased. Tink has WINGS!!! You know how I feel about all things with wings....butterflies, dragonflies, angels, fairies.....I love 'winged' things.

And really is there anything more magically wonderful than Pixie dust? I wouldn't mind a little sprinkle of Pixie Dust right now!

My Tinkerbell and Peter Pan history goes back a long way! My mom who loves the theater, took me to see many plays when I was a young girl. Two stood out strongly for me, The King & I (with the amazing Yul Brynner as the King of Siam) and Peter Pan at  the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre starring Sandy Duncan as Tinker Bell. Back then those plays stood out for me because there were young children my age in the play! And it was love, love, love, ever since! One of the benefits of growing up in New York City is the Theater, and I never took that gift for granted!

In this movie Tinker Bell introduces a new circle of enchanting fairy friends – Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta and Silvermist – each with an incredibly diverse talent, personality and look!

Do you remember the moment you met your best friend as a child? The moment you first believed in Magic? Disney movies always that bring that childhood magic back for me!

Teaser Alert: Check out the first time Tinker Bell meets a human for the first time – an 8-year old girl named Lizzy. Lizzy discovers that her dream to meet a fairy is finally coming true. She also learns that Tinker Bell speaks in jingles and that fairies can’t fly in the rain. This marks the beginning of a very unique friendship.

Notice the butterflies in the begining? Isn't that neat? I'd like to think that was put in there just for ME. This was 'screened' during my weekend Auntie 'sitting' duties. Why do they call it sitting? (Kids rarely let you sit do they?) Thankfully the movie gave us both time to sit! My niece really enjoyed it! and so did I! And nothing better than a movie screening in your living room in your PJ's. And since Disney offers the Blu-Ray and DVD combo pack, I just popped that Blu-Ray into the Player, and the surround sound, big screen, and Disney Movie Magic took care of itself! What's also great about this movie set up, is that Auntie keeps the Blu-Ray, and the chosen niece or nephew that weekend gets to keep the DVD. A little something for everyone!

Ascending Butterfly walks the Red Carpet at The World Premiere of The Sorcerer's Apprentice!

Ascending Butterfly was blessed to be invited to THE Red Carpet World Premiere of Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice! On what has to be one of the hottest days of the month, we set out to the Red Carpet Premiere of what will no doubt be one of the hottest releases of summer!

The World Premiere was held in the New Amsterdam Theater in the heart of Times Square in Manhattan. And no detail was left out, they even included popcorn and beverages! Most appreciated!

While we were watching the Red Carpet Arrivals up close, a butterfly actually flew right past us, and no spoilers here, but there is a great butterfly sighting in this movie! And you all know I love my butterflies!

The Premiere was followed by a concert in Bryant Park, emceed by Z100’s JJ, with Alpha Rev taking the stage! Their song "Phoenix Burn" was featured in the film. One Republic was on the bill as their song "Secrets" is featured prominently in the film also, but the lead singer had laryngitis and they were unable to perform. There were also appearances and a Question & Answers session with  the movie’s stars and filmmakers, including Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Toby Kebbell, Teresa Palmer, director Jon Turteltaub and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. And oddly enough another butterfly flew past us while in Bryant Park, how cool is that?

The mayor even declared July 6th as ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice Day’ in New York City!

I can't discuss it too much yet, but I thought I'd leave you all with a trailer to enjoy!





Thanks Disney, I had an amazing night, and the swagbags on the way out was a very nice touch! I even walked out alongside Helen Mirren! It took so much restraint not to ask her for an autograph! And my pass and ticket stub is so going in my scrapbook!

Now as many of you already know, game night is usually Friday nights here, and it consists of friends and family, our favorite video games (which I won't mention which platform/system here just in case the competition wants us to review theirs, LOL!), loads of snacks, and yes soft drinks too!
