The Launch of Perfect Pearl (@Pearlworldinc) at Barneys New York (@BarneysNY) during #NYFW #PerfectPearl {Photos}

This has been an incredibly busy month and it's barely at it's midpoint! I've had the opportunity to attend a number of amazing events this month and catch some great shows during New York Fashion Week, and I'll try to get event recaps posted as soon as possible!

Last week I headed into the city earlier than usual, for a very special breakfast. A new brand of luxury skincare for both Mom AND Baby called Perfect Pearl, hit the market recently and they held a special Breakfast Launch at Fred's at Barneys New York City. The event was presented in conjunction with my favorite Social Media Dynamic Duo, The Moms!

I wanted to recap this event during Wordless Wednesday, because although this post is far from being entirely Wordless, it's super picture heavy, so I thought it would fit best as our Wordless Wednesday this week.

When we arrived at Barneys and got off the elevator to enter Fred's, we immediately heard Harp music and thought we landed in heaven! :)

Had to zoom in and get the details on the Harp!

The music set such a serene ambience, and me being 'The Official #TwitterPartyDJ' I definitely know that music really does set a mood. It was a touch I didn't expect but definitely enjoyed!

Yogurt, Granola and Fruit, Fred at Barneys in New York City for the launch of Perfect Pearl

Once we got settled in, we just had to grab one of these, and they definitely tasted as good as they looked!

Look how cute the tables were set up!

Had to get a close up of the Pearls! Perfect Pearl uses Pearl Powder and Pearl Extract to make their line of Luxury Skin Care for both mom and baby. Pearl Extract is one of the most expensive ingredients in Cosmetic use today, but the Pearl which has been utilized by many cultures for centuries, including Asian, Mayan, Egyptian and Indians for health purposes, to gain a youthful vitality and for beautifying the skin.

These lovely ladies came around to each table to allow everyone to sample the products!

The Maternity/Mom's Line Consists of:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Bust Serum with Pure Pearl: This one has a fresh, light texture, the Amino Acids in the pearl powder and the active ingredient, Osilift, helps promote firmness and prevent loss of elasticity, relieving skin tension and soothing breast tightness.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Nursing Comfort Cream with Pure Pearl: This was formulated for moms who have chosen to breastfeed. It consists of a blend of pearl extract and an ultra pure grade of lanolin, which not only provides relief but also protection to tender nipples and also lightens nipple darkness, this product is safe to use while breastfeeding. (and for those of you who are like me, and are not yet moms, this can also be used as an incredible hand cream or anywhere you may have dark spots!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Stretch Mark Cream with Pure Pearl: This is a more creamy and fine textured cream, it's active ingredient Sepilift DPHP, along with lanolin, organic aloe, vitamin E, shea butter and a mixture of exotic oils actively stimulates skin cells and promotes tissue regeneration which all helps to reduce the size, depth and color of stretch marks. And again for my fellow non-moms, don't think this is for moms only, anywhere you have stretch marks, tummy, arms, hips from rapid weight gain and loss, this cream is a God Send! It's not just exclusively for moms! Doesn't your skin deserve pure and natural ingredients?

The Baby Collection Consists of:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Baby Cleansing Foam For Hair and Body: This unique cleansing foam for hair and body cleansing contains their signature Pearl Extract and provitamin B12. This sulfate free cleanser is gentle for baby's hair, scalp and all over body without drying their skin. It's good for everyday use on newborns and babies with sensitive to normal skin. (and again ladies, this is equally good for your skin as well!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Baby Daily Moisture Lotion with Pure Pearl: A blend of pure pearl extract, drago-calm, grape seed and safflower oils provides immediate and lasting hydration for baby's skin, leaving a porcelain shine-free finish.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Baby Diaper Cream with Pure Pearl: Use this cream to prevent as well treat the skin irritation that is caused by urine and diaper chafing on baby's skin. It utilizes Zinc Oxide in pearl extract and is blended with shea butter and castor seed oil, it seals out wetness and softens the skin.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Baby Face Cream with Pure Pearl: Considered to be the 'ultimate face cream' it contains a luxurious level of pearl extract, oat flour, oat kernel extract and safflower oil. Perfect for the face of newborns and babies with delicate skin.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Baby Pearl Powder with Pure Pearl: This Ultra-Silky baby pearl powder contains a luxurious level of pure pearl powder and natural cornstarch to soothe and heal irritated skin. This was my standout item of the Baby Collection. I LOVE this powder. I actually like to use baby powder on my own skin, and fell in love with this powder when I applied it to my skin during the event, this one is definitely all for me! :)

Then the moms introduced us to the Founder and President of Perfect Pearl, Ying Zhou Eliason!

It was fantastic to get a behind the scenes and learn about what drove Ying to develop the line. A visit from Ying's Grandmother four years ago when Ying's first daughter was born and her grandmother brought the gift of pearl powder, which showed such incredible results on her daughter's skin that she went in search of products here in the U.S. that utilize Pearl Powder or Pearl Extracts for baby and couldn't find any, prompting her to develop her own line.

We learned from their chemist as well as an MD who is endorsing the brand that Perfect Pearl products are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, colorant and paraben free!

My Take:

As far as I'm concerned you can't really put a price on using the finest ingredients available to you to protect your skin and your baby's skin! If their launch's attention to detail is any indication of what lies ahead, this is definitely a brand to watch!

So Ascending Butterfly finally gets invited to a Page Six worthy event, and she couldn't attend! What's a Butterfly to do? Research Last Minute Cloning Options, Make a rally cry to the heavens? Never to fear, Mama Butterfly is always near and she stepped in for me and covered a very special Mamarazzi event for the movie screening of Ed Burns latest movie release The Fitzgerald Family Christmas which he also wrote the screenplay for AND directed!

Synopsis/About Fitzgerald Family Christmas

With The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, Ed Burns returns to the working-class, Irish-American roots of The Brothers McMullen. Reuniting with McMullen co-stars Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), and Mike McGlone, along with Noah Emmerich (Little Children, Beautiful Girls) and Kerry Bishé (Newlyweds, Red State), Burns seamlessly weaves an ensemble story of adult siblings dealing with the desire of their estranged father (Ed Lauter, The Artist, The Longest Yard) to return home for Christmas for the first time since he walked out on his family 20 years ago. Family rifts emerge, and like with any family, Christmas brings a mixed bag of complicated emotions and dynamics. Alliances form, old wounds are reopened or glossed over, and the possibility for a new hope and forgiveness emerges.

Formulario de alianzas, reabrio viejas heridas o alto, y surge la posibilidad de una nueva esperanza y perdon.

One of my favorite parts of Mamarazzi movie Screenings with The Moms is the opportunity the bloggers in attendance get to ask questions of one of the film's stars! It reminds me of my 'pro' film critic days on Press Junkets, but thankfully with much less travel because the screenings are much closer to home! It's definitely been a month of 'hollywood hunks' here at Ascending Butterfly this month, first getting to interview Gerard Butler regarding his new movie Playing for Keeps and now getting the chance to ask Ed Burns questions about The Fitzgerald Family Christmas!

Q. What did you draw upon in your own personal life that came out on film and in the writing of The Fitzgerald Family Christmas?
Ed Burns: "A lot of people think these films, especially “The Brothers McMullen” are autobiographical. It is in fact that the Fitzgerald family comes from the exact same place that I came from — working class, Long Island, Irish-Catholic from that neighborhood. So certainly, who I am, how I was raised and the people I was friends with are a big part of who these people are. That said, any of the major plot points I never pull from my family's experience for the simple reason that I don't want a Christmas like this one!"
There are some little things that I pulled from my family and extended family. For example, my wife's tradition, which I never heard of before, is to all wear matching pajamas on Christmas Eve. So I was like all right, I'm going to steal this for the film. And it's something we do now with our kids.

Q. Would you ever put Christy in your movies?
Ed Burns: Christy said on our very first date: 'Look, for the last 10 years I've been offered dozens of parts in movies. I don't want to be an actress so if you want a second date promise me you won't ever ask.' So I never have.

Q. Is it true that you're going to do a 20th reunion of “The Brothers McMullen?

Ed Burns: We're going to do a sequel, I just started writing the script. The plan is that the first movie came out in 1995 and ideally we'd like to get it out by 2015. It's going to be a good one.

The Moms intro Ed Burns Fitzgerald Family Christmas Mamarazzi 06 WATERMARKED

Q. What inspires you to write your films?
Ed Burns: They come from different places. I acted in a movie last year with Tyler Perry called “Alex Cross” and he had just re-watched 'The Brothers McMullen.“ And he said your first two movies were so successful that had to do with these Irish-Catholic families and you haven't gone back there in 15 years. Take a look at what I'm doing, the empire I'm building. You have to super serve your niche. Your audience loved those two movies, give them another one. The minute he said it I knew he was right so I started writing the screenplay for “The Fitzgerald Family Christmas.“

Q. Do you think your focus has changed making movies, writing since having kids?
Ed Burns: To be quite honest, I've never sat down and thought about myself as a husband and a father when I was writing a screenplay. So now my oldest is 9 years old, so this will be the first script that I'm really looking at fatherhood, marriage, child-rearing. That said, there's no way that being a father and a husband hasn't changed the way I thought about my parents, my friends' parents and the challenges they must have experienced and what all parents must deal with. That definitely shaped the writing in this but it wasn't something that I consciously sat down to do.

Q. How do you balance it all?
Ed Burns: Both of our jobs require us to travel. And I made a decision at a certain point that if I want to be the dad I want to be that means I have to stay in New York. So that means I have to focus more on my filmmaking, which I can control and keeps me in town. But I sort of said, I won't go take an acting part that will take me to Australia for four months. And I'm lucky that I'm not just an actor because having to make those decisions would be difficult

Q. When you're on the set and your kids have something and you're late, do you ever feel guilty as a working dad?
Ed Burns: All parents these days feel guilt. When you're the director, you call the shots, so if there is something that is very important that I need to be at, we schedule around it. I also think you have to have the healthy perspective that kids want to see their parents work, be engaged, happy and satisfied, even little kids. We don't need to be there as much as we think we need to. They're OK.

Q. Would you let your two children follow in your footsteps?
Ed Burns: The rule is after 18 we'll help them do what they want to do. Get through high school, get into college. While you're in school, if you want to pursue acting or modeling or photography, we'll help you. But nothing until 18

Elf The Broadway Musical!

As a lifelong New Yorker, one of the hearts of this city is Broadway. It's the heartbeat, it's the pulse, it's where locals and tourists alike come together to enjoy the magic of the theater and live performance. Every single night during the run of any given show is different, the actors picking up on the energy of the crowd, a crowd that changes nightly, and they give slightly different performances each night because the energy changes each night. It's what makes theater special, every performance is much like a snowflake, each beautiful in it's own way and each one unique!

The Neon Lights just add to the magic of New York City  at Night!

Broadway is ready for the holidays, first with Annie The Musical (press to read our review if you missed it the first time), which I was blessed to able to attend a special performance with The Moms, and now with Elf The Musical which I also was able to attend along with The Moms! I love The Moms events, you get to catch up with fellow bloggers and meet each other's families! Elf The musical will run from November 9, 2012 to January 6, 2013.

Outside Shot of Al Hirschfeld Theatre, New York City

About Elf  The Musical:

ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. Buddy is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and his step-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Checklist of the Theater Rules, I may have a been 'Naughty' see below:

Elf The Musical Stage Shot WATERMARKED
A picture of the stage before the play began, Shhh, it's our secret OK?

The Cast:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Jordan Gelber plays Buddy, he certainly had big shoes to fill, no pun intended of course, and did a great job!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Leslie Kritzer plays Jovie, a single girl in New York City who works at Macy's and eventually falls in love with Buddy. (Does the theme of how difficult dating is in New York City ever get old?)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Wayne Knight, yes that Wayne Knight from Seinfeld, plays the big man himself, Santa Claus! He brings just the right mix of humor and cynicism! (If you live in NYC I'm sure you have already seen the commercials by now!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Beth Leavel plays Emily, Buddy's Stepmother!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Adam Heller plays Mr. Greenway,  Buddy's real dad.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Michael Mandell plays Macy's Store Manager with great humor and likability.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Valerie Wright plays Deb, Mr. Greenway's Assistant and she's a definitely scene stealer! Strong performance!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Mitchell Sink plays Michael, Buddy's Little Step-Brother who makes his Broadway Debut in Elf, he also put in a very strong debut performance!

Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash sponsored a pre-show mixer, I made it just in the nick of time to try a lovely cocktail using the Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash and then it was show time!

My Take:

I greatly enjoyed Elf The Musical, I wasn't sure how the movie would translate to the theater, and how it would hold up as a Musical, but I did greatly enjoy it! It keeps both the kids and adults entertained and was very well paced/directed. As a Duane Reade Blogger Brand Ambassador I did find the New York and Duane Reade references funny, I wasn't expecting that. I don't think we are all as cynical as the play portrays us to be, it played quite a bit into New York Stereotypes, but on the whole I do agree we could ALL use a little more magic in our lives, especially during the holidays.

Annie The Musical on Broadway! Opens November 8th! #PLACEholiday

In October I had the chance to see Annie The Musical on Broadway which is still in previews until November 8th, 2012. A special Mamarazzi® with Annie on Broadway was held on Tuesday, October 16th in conjunction with The Children's Place, The Moms, and Annie in support of Pajama Program, a not-for-profit dedicated to helping children in shelters. They collected new pajamas and books for children the night of the event. The Pajama Program currently has 63 chapters in 40 States and operates three Reading Centers in New York, NY; Yonkers, NY; and Red Bank, NJ. There are tons of ways you can help including donating online, by hosting your own Pajama and Book Drive, and even Gift Cards, where you can donate a gift in someone's honor and they will get a card telling them you donated on their behalf!

So many children are without warm bedtime clothing and education so we developed a creative program to provide some of both,” says Founder and Executive Director Genevieve Piturro. “We intend to make a difference – giving back is what it’s all about.”

Cool t-shirts for sale in the lobby of The Palace Theatre in New York City

In November many bloggers are participating in a 'donate your blog' program where all month long bloggers will feature charities close to their hearts and give them the social media push they normally wouldn't experience. Thankfully Ascending Butterfly has been doing this since we opened our doors, so we didn't need a special month of giving to get involved in making a difference! We had the chance to make a donation to the Pajama Program on the night of the performance, but what really stood out was watching children put stuff in the collection bin, it's so awesome to see children being raised to understand that giving back is important!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - New York Foundling - Saving Children, Preserving Families and Building Communities. Since 1869.

My Take:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and with New York City dealing with so much loss and devastation, this show is a bright spot in a very dark time in the City. I realize that because many people are bringing children to the show, it might difficult to get around just yet since the MTA is not totally back up and running yet, but the show is back on and running in previews until November 8th. I highly encourage you to get out and see this show as soon as you can! The sooner we get Broadway back up and running, the sooner a ton of folks can get back to work! And if you can help any of the show's charitable partners, please consider it, especially at this time where it is truly needed! By the way, all the performances were strong, but 'Molly' is a total scene stealer!
