Finally the perfect Argan Oil Product for Fine Hair! My Day in Morocco with @AgadirInt #moroccanspaday

Last week the Rooftop bar of the Library Hotel in New York City was transformed into a Moroccan Paradise for the Agadir International's 'Journey to Morocco with Agadir Argan Oil' event.  Guests were able to indulge in Manicures, Massages, Henna Tattoos, as well as hair styling to help match each guest to the appropriate Agadir Argan Oil Product for their hair.

I was able to get a walk through of each of the products in the line, and I followed that with hair styling and a very helpful hair consultation with Carlos who asked all the right questions about my hair and my morning routine to help match me to the right products. Since I blow dry my hair daily and flat iron often, he recommended (as well as used on my hair on the spot) the Heat Shield 450 which will protect hair from high heat styling appliances like Blow Dryers and Flat irons, and because I have fine hair he also recommended the Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner.

Agadir, Argan Oil, Hair, Beauty, Haircare, Volumizing, Heat Protectant, Shampoo, Conditioner
Stylist Carlos gave me great ideas on what to do with my hair this summer at the Agadir Argan Oil Moroccan Spa Day Event at the Library Hotel in New York City!

I will tell you that after having it used on my hair I found it to be one of the most light weight Argan Oils I've tried so far, it didn't make the scalp and the hair toward the front look greasy at all, and it also offered me true versatility, whether I choose to wear it curly or straight, my hair looked shinier and healthier, it did hold the curl well and the front of my hair which was styled straight stayed straight.

Agadir, Argan Oil, Hair, Beauty, Haircare, Volumizing, Heat Protectant, Shampoo, Conditioner
Stylist Carlos is adding the finishing touches to my hair! I am holding the Heat Shield 450 Plus Treatment.

About Agadir ™ Argan Oil Hair Treatment:

Agadir™ Argan Oil is extracted from the rare and exotic nut (cross between a walnut and almond) of the Argan tree. This wonder oil has the characteristics of being very lightweight and non-greasy. Its conditioning powers are beyond compare when combined with our fine, professional formulation. Argan oil has a low molecular weight, which instantly penetrates into the hair shaft, without weighing the hair down. Agadir™ Argan Oil Hair Treatment is left in the hair for continuous conditioning, leaving it soft, silky, manageable with a long lasting, luxurious shine.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Agadir™ Argan Oil Hair Treatment Properties:
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Contains 100% Pure and Certified Argan Oil
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Repairs, softens & strengthens dry, brittle, frizzy hair
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Not oily or greasy + no buildup to make hair heavy and flat
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Reduces drying time (40-50%)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Quick absorbent, alcohol free formula
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Natural Antioxidant
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Moisturizing formula nourishes and eliminates dry, itchy, scalp
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Encourages healthier hair growth
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Great hair control and manageability
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Paraben AND Sulfate Free!

Argan Oil, Hair, Haircare, Agadir, Heat Shield 450, Heat Protectant, Blow Dry, Flat Iron
Who I am wearing: Green Jacket: Wilson's Leather, Blouse: Karen Kane JeansSignature by Levi Strauss & Co. Women's Curvy Skinny Jeans, Handbag: Ecco "Natal" Handbag in color 'cognac'

While I haven't had a chance to try out all the products that Carlos recommended that I got to take home, I did like the results he achieved with just the Heat Shield 450 plus Spray Treatment (that protects, repairs and shines!) and the Agadir™ Volumizing Hair Spray - Firm Hold. It helped me keep the soft, frizz free curl he added to my hair all day.

Daily Volumizing Conditioner, Styling Mousse, Argan Oil, Agadir, Hair, Haircare
Had to capture a shot of this cute vignette I set up with the Daily Volumizing Conditioner and the Agadir Argan Oil Styling Mousse

Because I do have fine hair, he recommended the Volumizing products to help give my hair body, and still having the added benefits that Argan Oil offers the hair. They also have a blow dry round brush that actually has Argan Oil infused into bristles of the brush already, which helps to cut down styling time since the product is already infused into the brush! I have to tell you this brush totally ROCKS!

Butterfly Henna Tattoo, Manicure
Got a blush of pink nail polish at the Mani Station plus a super cute Henna Butterfly Tattoo!

I also stopped over at the Manicure Station (they did my nails in the softest hint of pink!) and then followed that with my very first Henna Tattoo, I asked for a Henna Butterfly and couldn't be more thrilled with my Butterfly!

Butterfly, Henna Tattoo, Manicure,
Later in the day the puffy top layer drops off and you are left with the Henna  Tattoo on your skin that lasts about 2 weeks!

We even had the option of adding Glitter to the Henna Tattoo which I definitely said yes to! It was also nice to have the chance to eat, enjoy the view on the outside of the rooftop and catch up with my favorite New York Bloggers!

My Take:

Butterflies Agadir Argan Oil is definitely one to watch and put on your Haircare Radar! Right now they are being sold exclusively in salons, but they plan to roll out their website so that consumers may purchase the products online at their site.  They did let me know that if you see it right now both online and even at Mass Market Drug Stores, the products you are seeing are more than likely fakes or even expired product which would make it less effective, so only buy these at the Salon for now until they are available for purchase directly from the Agadir International website.

I noticed that it seemed to really work well for ALL types of hair. While I was at each station I got the chance to see different people getting styled, and the products really worked well for such a diverse and wide variety of hair types.

Once I have had the opportunity to try out the entire line from A to Z on a regular basis, I will definitely report back to you with additional feedback!

Butterflies, Have you already tried Agadir Argan Oil? If so, please let us know how it is working for you!

{Not So} Wordless Wednesday: New Haircut by Mark on Madison Edition! {#Photos}

Yesterday we talked about the Orgullosa Community, and that leads into my not so Wordless Wednesday today. In one of the facebook groups I belong to, one of the bloggers posted a call for New Yorkers who wanted to try out a new salon to let her know. With the year and a half I just went through, while I didn't make formal 'New Year's Resolutions', one of the things I promised myself this year is that I would not just embrace, but actually make change in my life. I know that this year won't be different if I approach it the same way, and do the same things.

I want 2013 to be a whole new year, one where I strive to balance taking more time for myself and still meeting the demands of an ever-changing constantly on the go schedule. Spending so much time last year in the hospital made my hair change a bit because of everything I went through including the crazy meds. So honestly when this opportunity opened up it was a total no brainer for me. And so I decided when I agreed to take it that I would truly let the salon go nuts and make my hair over totally.

Although true to my nature I did do my research!

About Mark on Madison:

Mark landed an apprenticeship with world-renowned hairstylist John Barrett at his Bergdoff Goodman salon (and you can best believe that the iconic salon located on the penthouse floor of Bergdoff Goodman in the heart of Manhattan must have been one amazing training ground as the women there expect no less than the best!)

Mark boasts quite a roster of celeb clientele (I won't name drop here, but you can check out his site www.markonmadison.com for a list).

Mark has worked with publications such as Sports Illustrated and Vanity Fair!

He has also worked a wide variety of high profile events including The Academy Awards, New York Fashion Week and Good Morning America!

Here is my Before:

Left: Ascending Butterfly, Right: Mark Borukhov of Mark on Madison Salon, NYC

I arrived with well below my shoulders curly hair! The first thing he told me was 'throw out your flat iron!' - As a life long wavy girl I wasn't sure at first how possible that would be for me as I normally prefer to wear my hair straight.

Here is my During:

Mark styles Ascending Butterfly at Mark on Madison Salon in New York City

Mark created long side parted fringe layers instead of bangs! He also blew out my hair in what has to be an Olympic Record Speed, and showed me how to section my hair for not only faster results, but also less breakage!

Here is my after:

Mark finalizes the style and the look is complete! Mark on Madison Salon, NYC

Voila!

My Take:

Mark took the time to understand what my real day-to-day is like and gave me his signature cut which not only frames my face, but he also took the time to teach me step by step how to maintain it, so when I left the salon I could keep the same style up at home with less effort than before. He also gave me product recommendations and helped de-bunked one of my product myths. I often avoided products that were labelled for 'curly' hair since I tend to wear my straight, but the for curly products he used on my hair worked well for me, and made me re-consider what I have been using at home.

And when I told him that I love my waves, I just hate the frizz, he gave me ideas to help achieve 'Beachy Waves' but avoid the frizz. He told after washing my hair to try gathering it like making a ponytail, then twist it clockwise and put it in a bun and sleep with it (works best for me with hair towel-dried because I have thin, fine hair that is very frizz prone) and then wake up and just rake the waves with my fingers, and then blow dry the front if I wanted it to be sleeker in the front or on top. I love that idea because it's actually workable for me since I have very little time in the morning. Thankfully I'm already using the right brushes (he recommended blow drying my hair with a boar bristle brush), which helps to make the process not only easier but also produce the desired results.

Oddly enough I went in finally ready to commit to a bigger change, and he didn't really feel I needed it. I don't have grays yet, so he didn't really feel a one process color would be a good idea for my hair type. And because I told him I do take the time out to try and wear my hair straighter, he didn't want me to take off a lot of length.

And if a great cut and styling, way faster than I even expected wasn't enough, we also went to a local coffee shop and talked 'shop' for awhile, you have to love a stylist who splits a cheesecake with you! If that's not down to earth I don't know what is!

I highly recommend Mark! And I also love that I found him on a New York City Bloggers forum, I love when bloggers share great leads! I'm not sure I would have found this salon without the recommendation, so word of mouth definitely pays off!

Does a trip to New York and a #Hair styling session with Antonio Rosales sound like a Dream Come True? #alRescate #DamageRescue - cc @HSforWomen @Influenster

I think something that resonates with almost everyone is wanting to have a 'great hair day'.  We all know it's pretty much a euphemism for a day that's going well! For me a great hair day is a multi-step process that starts with rinse and repeat and ends in me pretty much frying my hair to get it silky-smooth, and glossy-straight.

I really have tried to embrace my natural hair, oh how I have tried. It's fine, thin, and frizzy. Why did Mother Nature give me such a difficult cross to bear when it comes to hair? It is pretty much the tri-fecta of hard to style hair. Most hairdressers want to cut it short to bring out the natural curl and I protest because after all the years of experience living with it, I know that will just make the frizzies harder to tame.

So for the most part I stick to the same cut with the major difference being with or without bangs, depending on what I'm feeling at the time. For me to get the great blow-out, fresh from the Salon look that I love, I have to blow it completely dry then Flat Iron it. The results are worth it, but on a day-to-day basis the cumulative damage that does starts to really add up. Fried and frayed looking ends, and hair that gets dry at the ends and splits.

A year in and out of the hospital and the crazy meds they gave me has also made my hair go more nuts than usual, so what's a butterfly to do when her tresses are less than impressive?

Well, as an influencer who is also an influenster you sign up for a fun campaign and discover a new product that you immediately put to the test because it so fits a need you have!

I signed up for the Head & Shoulders Influenster Campaign, and have to admit I was pretty excited to try it out. I think we all have that area where we haven't yet found the product that gives you 100% of what you are looking for. And for me, it's two things, my hair, and acne, they are my daily battles and I will probably road test new products until I'm old and gray in search of that elusive product nirvana.

Unfortunately when my Vox box arrived, I got a box of Goo in the mail! (I have a funny feeling Santa's little Postal Elves punctured my package!). When I let the very nice folks at Head & Shoulders know that I got a box of Goo in the mail, they sent out a replacement. I couldn't wait for the replacement to arrive, because as un-appealing as a box of Goo sounds, the SMELL was fantastic and I couldn't quite get it out of my head.

I put the replacement products to work right away! And I will tell you I'm in LOVE with the scent of the new damage rescue collection from head & shoulders!

ABOUT HEAD & SHOULDERS NEW DAMAGE RESCUE COLLECTION:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Plus, the advanced formula improves hair and scalp health, while at the same time leaving hair strong against damage.

My Take:

After a year in a hospital bed, I am so excited to be out of the hospital and back home! I spent Last Christmas, New Years Eve, and most of January in one hospital undergoing exploratory surgeries where I even woke up a few times during which was horrible, and then switched to a new hospital where I spent my birthday. and I've been locked up indoors way to long. As for me 2013 will be a year of change on every single level conceivable, spiritually, emotionally, professionally, and personally. I want change, and I know I have to make that change, by stepping forward and being bold, not being afraid to try new things, embark on new adventures and journeys and most of all to take risks. If you don't take a risk, you never truly gain. I am ready for change, and this sounds like the perfect one to start with! And as a Latina, I love that the stylist is Latino and will be able to understand my concerns and hopefully find ways to transform me into a completely different butterfly. I guess taking me from hair chrysalis stage, and right OUT of it's cocoon straight into glossy, bouncy tresses Butterfly!

I love the fresh peach scent of the Shampoo and Conditioner and I didn't notice any new splits this week despite the fact I blew out my hair the same amount of days per week usual, I may just have yet hit on a drugstore find that rivals more expensive shampoo and conditioners that I've tryed. Bouncy, manageable hair that smells so good you want to smell yourself after you use it, AND that turns the head of the cute guy in the subway standing next to you? UM YES PLEASE!

Amo Tu Cabello/Love Your Hair - I'd say that's indeed possible with Head & Shoulders New Damage Control Shampoo and Conditioner! (I'll bet your hubby and your kiddos will start hugging you randomly for 'no reason' but it's just so they can smell your freshly washed hair!).

You can enter this contest too, so what are you waiting for, use the direct facebook link under the get social section to get started! If you win, please come back and let us know so we can congratulate you, and of course tag a picture of your new fab hairdo to us on Facebook so we can all see it and cheer you on! I promise to do the same if it's me! I've got my fingers and toes crossed on this one!

Not So Wordless Wednesday - My day as a Hair Model at Butterfly Studio Salon!

Have you ever dreamed of being a Hair Model? Oddly enough it's the one New York experience that I have not had before.....Until Today!

I'm kinda of a lifer type, I'm super loyal. I was with my first hair-dresser since late childhood until right about senior year in High School. He actually did my hair for Prom! He had a heart attack and at the urging of his family got out of the industry. I missed him terribly and floundered for a number of years. I never felt I got a cut as good as his in my adulthood, until today!

Things had been so bad as of late, that my hair sadly went a full year uncut! (I know right?!! I can totally hear you gasping!) I knew I couldn't continue to leave my ends un-attended, they were literally starting to look fried. After attending the Hair 101 event at L'Oreal Paris, I asked team L'Oreal for a Salon Recommendation in NYC and the first salon that was recommended was Butterfly Studio Salon. (Why I hadn't heard of them before the glowing recommendation from L'Oreal I don't know). But I learned a long time ago to trust the butterfly, and follow it wherever it leads me.

Butterfly Studio Salon has Junior Stylists that are working toward their chair in the salon, and often need hair models so that the stylists can advance. Normally something like this would scare me, I've had my share of really scary haircuts, I mean really scary. But for some reason this year has been all about change for me, and I really, really wanted a major change. I was starting to feel like Sade, people were able to spot me at events by my super long pony tail! Well butterflies, no one will be able to spot me by my super long ponytail anymore, because it's GONE!!

The long hair down my mid back that I would actually snap my head back with sometimes is gone and I couldn't be happier. My hair is naturally wavy, thin and super frizz prone, and as most people with naturally wavy or curly hair know, the shorter you cut it, the more it curls, so I tend to lean on the conservative side with how much I'm willing to cut. (Which I'm sure normally wouldn't make things easy on the stylist.)

Maybe because I was so ready for a real change, I really put myself in my stylist's able hands and let her take the vision of what I wanted, coupled with her expertise and knowledge of what my hair really can and can't do, and let her transform it.

My stylist, Margaux Martinez, managed to take my un-manageable mane and truly transform it. I feel about 10 pounds lighter! In all my salon experiences, my blow outs usually entail a ton of painful tugging, followed by either a flat iron or a curling iron (depending on the desired style), this is literally the first time I couldn't feel my hair being tugged at all, she has great hands and a very light touch. Disproving the 'Dicho' (saying) 'El que quiere moños bonitos aguanta jalones' which loosely translated means 'If you want pretty hair you will deal with the yanking/pain.

This was the most 'pain free' (and I mean that in every sense of the word) salon experience I've ever had, and I can't recommend Margaux or the team at Butterfly Studio Salon higher!

The salon which moved from Mid-Town to the super trendy Flatiron district, transports you the moment you arrive, with a beautiful Koi pond in the waiting area, and because they are on the second floor you are already removed from the hustle and bustle and don't have to worry about people poking their faces in the window to see you with your wet hair! (Let's face it, we only want people to see the after!)

OK, I'm thinking you are ready for the un-veiling, I mean this was supposed to be a Wordless Wednesday and all....

Ascending Butterfly (Left), Margaux Martinez, Stylist (Center), my Mama Butterfly (Right)

Oops, tucked the front behind my ears when I put my coat on!
If any of you have been hesitant to try out something like this, I couldn't recommend Butterfly Studio Salon more, and you will love Margaux! Ask for her, you won't regret it! The Hair Model program asks you to only pay for the price of the products used basically, so you will pay a $35 salon fee (gratuity is additional), and you will get a wash (shampoo + conditioner), cut (one that is tailored to work with your hair and it's natural texture, you never feel forced to do something that doesn't work for you), style and blow out. No charge for the Koi Pond and serenity! :)

And you know I love companies that give back, brands with a conscience, and Butterfly Studio Salon is giving back this holiday season, here's how you can do something wonderful for you, and give back at the same time. The salon has decided to act to put some cheer into the faces of disadvantaged children by donating new toys and participating in the Toys for Tots program. On your next visit if you bring a new unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more, you will receive 10% off on your next service. Something nice for you and a way to give back too, How cool is that?

I wouldn't be doing my job as a fab frugalista if I didn't mention that during the holiday season if you check in on Foursquare or Facebook you will receive a complimentary Kerastase travel sized product.

There are a few other Holiday Gift Package Promotions you should definitely check out, and they are also having a 'Social Butterfly Event' on November 17th, where you can meet Tata Harper and experience complimentary express facials and complimentary eyebrow shaping by Christina Marroquin! Don't you just love that they call their events 'Social Butterfly Events'? (Much like me, a social butterfly!)

You can keep up with all things Butterfly Studio Salon on your favorite social media channel like Twitter or Facebook! And if you would like to have your hair styled by Margaux, you can reach her directly via email at: margaux.martinez@yahoo.com

I found a new stylist and new favorite salon, today has been a fantastic hairday!

Happy Not So Wordless Wednesday Butterflies, Hope you are having a fantastic hairday, I know I am!

What is your Studio Look?

What is your Studio Look? Visit yourstyleyourstudio.com and find out! Your Style Your Studio is a digital lookbook launched by L'Oreal Paris based on their Studio line of haircare products where both men and women can upload their own hair looks & get inspired by other looks that have been uploaded. You'll see lots of bold colors, daring cuts, and fashion-forward looks. It came at just the right time for me, as I am ready for a hair makeover.

This year has been a very busy, productive year of many changes and transitions. I had a big birthday this year, I've lost 26 pounds and several dress sizes, and my hair just don't reflect 'the new me'. So next up on my personal agenda, is making the outer me, match the inner me. And my hair needs to keep up! I'd like something shorter, easier to style and manage and for the first time ever I'm thinking of trying out a permanent color change (Thankfully it's not out of necessity, no greys yet!). That's something I've never really done, I've used wash out temporary color before (the last time was for my College Graduation!) but I've never made a real color change commitment. With Your Style Your Studio I can get ideas based on hair type, length and product type which I very much appreciate. Not only do you get an idea of how different styles will look, you can also learn how to achieve that style and what specific products were utilized to create the look.

L’Oréal Paris Studio Line Collection

For more than 25 years the Studio line has offered men and women the tools needed to create their look and express their styles. In 2011, Studio has undergone a dramatic creative overhaul with new packaging, making it easier to find the styling product perfect for you. In addition to a new look, the Studio line now offers five new products, bringing the range to 12 studio-inspired, sophisticated yet user-friendly offerings. The new Volume and Curl offerings help you achieve weightless volume, frizz control and curl definition for long-lasting hold and body. New Mega Hairspray sprays on clean and holds style in place all day with long-lasting shine. The revamped Studio Line provides both men and women with a full line of gels, mousses, sprays, spritzes and texturizers that meet every styling need.

Price: $4.99 each, Available at chain drug, food and mass market retailers nationwide.

My Take

All the products I tried helped me to achieve salon results at WAY more affordable prices! And the your style your studio website shows how to use each product to achieve desired results. I found that all products worked well with my hair length and texture (which is currently super long, fine, slightly wavy and frizz prone), and the most versatile of the products for me was the overworked hair putty, it's excellent for keeping your bangs in place, and if you have long hair, or don't want to blow out your bangs and just want to slick them back, it's great for keeping the front of your hair in place when pulling it back into a ponytail, it tames it, keeps it in place and gives you a super shiny ponytail!

I did want to share that the hairspray didn't make my hair super stiff either which I appreciated, I don't like when a hairspray gives you that stiff helmut head look!

The mousse gave great elasticity and hold without making hair stiff, it allowed me to re-work my style as needed from day into night.

I liked the gels, but I will admit I'm not a big gel user anymore, and with my hair currently so long, gel is less necessary for me, although perhaps when I cut it shorter, the gel will be more useful for me.

I liked the products I tried from the Studio Line and I like the Your Style Your Studio website, it's given me some ideas on cuts and color that I will be taking to my stylist. If you upload your photo, please be sure to come back here and share the link with us!
