Top 10 Road Trip Travel Checklist + Make Your Spring Break Road Trips easier with @Britax new Pinnacle 90 or Frontier 90! @SafeConBritax #travel #springbreak #spon

Spring is one of my favorite seasons for so many reasons! Spring represents renewal, re-birth, potential and you can sort of smell it in the air before it arrives. There are birds chirping outside the window, the clocks have sprung ahead and I am days away from my birthday. Since this week has been all about travel, I thought I'd continue on that theme today, some of you have probably already started the advent of your Spring travel by visiting with family today for Easter.

Planning for a road trip doesn't have to be daunting! But before you go down your checklist, you need to make sure the basics are in place and safety is of primary importance! Spring is the perfect time to have your car inspected, check the shocks, breaks and make sure your car is in shape first. You also need to account for the safety of your little ones and making sure you not only have a carseat, but that it is properly installed is crucial!

FRONTIER 90 Combination Harness-2-Booster Seat by BRITAX - offers leading Head Safety Technologies!

In case you missed it, we featured the newest carseats from BRITAX, the FRONTIER™ 90 and PINNACLE™ 90 and at the press event to announce the launch in New York City, they had vehicles on hand so we all could take a turn at installing the new carseats. I was surprised at just how simple, fast and easy the installation was, but was ven more impressed with seriously BRITAX takes child/infant safety. Getting a safe carseat installed and having your car inspected to check for it's readiness for a long road trip is a mission critical starting point, once that's in place you can then go down your checklist before letting that rubber hit the road.

PINNACLE 90 Combination Harness-2-Booster Seat by BRITAX - The Side Impact Cushion Technology makes this a winner!
Getting your vehicle inspected and making sure your carseat is properly installed is half the battle won for your Spring  Road Trips!

Road Trip Travel Checklist:

(1) Get your car inspected - a well planned road trip is to no avail if your vehicle is not up for the task!

(2) Make sure your carseats are properly installed - I can tell you that with the new BRITAX Frontier 90  (Combination Harness-2 Booster Seat) and Pinnacle 90 (Combination Harness-2 Booster Seat), installation is a breeze!

(3) GPS - You definitely don't want to get lost so you can go old school with actual Maps or hi tech with a GPS, but you definitely want to make sure you know where you are going and how to get there. (Just remember to allow yourself some room for last minute add-ons to your itinerary, remember butterflies it's about the journey, not just the destination!)

(4) Music - I wouldn't be 'The Official #TwitterPartyDJ' if my mind weren't always on Music and Tunes! The best parts of our lives can usually be accompanied by a song that instantly transports you back to that time. Make a road trip playlist that includes a little bit of something for everyone! And I personally also suggest letting everyone have their own portable players, so everyone has the chance to just zone out with their personal favorites for a little while.

(5) Camera - Chronicle your journey in pictures, the more candid and the more goofy, the better, but don't spend so much time behind the lens that you forget to enjoy yourself, and don't forget to ask someone to take a group photo, especially if you are usually the one to take all the pictures, because then you'll get home and find that you are not in any of the pictures!

(6) Cell Phone - For emergency use only! NOT for keeping up with work, enjoy your journey! But bringing one along in case of emergency is always a smart idea.

(7) Emergency Kit/First Aid Kit - You want to make sure you carry gauze, bandages, antibiotic cream, allergy and sinus medication, and all over the counter and prescription medications that all family members take. Be sure you have water, blankets, flashlight (there are flashlight apps for the ipod/ipad/iphone by the way), batteries, canned food, road flares, spare tire and a car jack!

(8) Budget - Plan for all your gas stops along the way, hotel expenses, entrance fees to parks, and bring along a Credit Card for emergencies!

(9) Clothing - Bring extra layers in anticipation of cooler nights!

(10) Footwear - Bring comfortable footwear, and bring all terrain or sport or hiking boots if mountains are part of your road trip journey!

Butterflies, where will the road take YOU this Spring?

New BRITAX FRONTIER™90 and PINNACLE™90 combination carseats with ClickTight Installation System!

It is always so hard to keep great secrets from my butterflies, so I am glad that I can finally share about a fun event I attended last Wednesday (March 20th) where BRITAX launched the New FRONTIER™90 and PINNACLE™90 combination carseats with ClickTight Installation System!

I'm not yet a mom but I'm an Aunt and Godmother and while I love my nieces, nephews and godchildren I have always left installs and assembly to the parents when it comes to cribs, furniture, carseats and the like, in fact I have never installed a carseat myself, until last week that is!

CLICK! That’s the new sound of a secure installation.  That’s the sound of a parent’s peace of mind. That’s the sound of BRITAX’s new ClickTight technology car seat installation.

New BRITAX FRONTIER™90 and PINNACLE™90 combination seats feature the ClickTight Installation System that allows parents to achieve a safe and secure installation every time. With just three simple steps, ClickTight allows parents to easily install the new seats with the vehicle seat belt and eliminates the frustration of putting their weight in the seat or getting into the vehicle to install the car seat.

Are you currently using the LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) to secure the car seat? Were you aware that all vehicles have lower anchor weight limits? When your child's weight exceeds the weight limit, car seats should no longer be installed using the lower anchors! Instead, the car seat must be installed using the vehicle seat belt system, and the new BRITAX ClickTight installation system allows parents to do just that!

We got the chance to see a video about the new technology that was super cute that I wanted to share with you so you could get a sneak peek as well before these officially hit stores:

Isn't she adorable? The talking car seat featured in the video was at the launch event too! Here is the event in pictures:

Above: Signage that was a sneak peek of what was to come!

Above: When you ask bloggers to attend a super early event, smoothies are a great way to start!

Above: Gotta have eats!

Once we grabbed our smoothies and some eats it was time for the presentation!

While I did include the video above in this post, I wanted you to get a feel for the excitement at the Launch Event too!

Above: There is the talking carseat from the video!

Above: Showtime! These are the instructions for installing the carseat, literally it's one, two, three!

Above: There were two vehicle stations set up so we could all take turns installing the new BRITAX Frontier 90 and Pinnacle 90 carseats!

Above: After the 'pro' gives you the instructions, then it's your turn to install!

Above: Carseat Close up (Isn't the Rose Print sweet?)

Above: Carseat Close up (What do you think of this pattern?)

Above: Carseat Close up, while it looks like it, this isn't the talking carseat!

I know after all that excitement you are thinking, 'Butterfly, I MUST Have that carseat in my life!, How do I get my hands on one?'  Well a little Britax Birdie told me that you have the chance to win one before they even hit stores!

WIN IT: I hope you watched the video carefully, because beginning Firday, March 29th, US-only residents will have a chance to enter to win a seat before they can buy it! Entrants will be required to answer a set of 'trivia' questions related to both the ClickTight promotional video as well as the 'little known truths' that support the need for this technology (like the LATCH anchor limitations, tight seat installs, and locking vehicle seat belts).  Thankfully I included all that above, so read this post carefully before you go enter. 15 winners will be selected at random from all eligible entrants by Monday, April 29th to receive a FRONTIER 90. Remember, this starts on Friday, March 29th, and you can enter at: www.BritaxClickTight.com

Another Win It: As you know I'm a BRITAX Latina Advisory Board and Hispanic Digital Outreach Member, and I just happen to know that giveaways will be hosted in April by some of the Latina Advisory Board Bloggers, and I will definitely keep you posted as details are revealed!

Butterflies, if you enter the contest on the Britax Click Tight page, don't forget to come back here and let us know that you did!

My Take:

The carseats are amazingly simple to install and since BOTH the FRONTIER 90 and PINNACLE 90 feature True Side Impact Protection that provides an extra layer of EPP foam to contain a child's head, neck and body and keep them aligned in the event of a crash what's NOT to love? The PINNACLE 90 also features energy-managing Side Impact Cushion Technology, which diverts crash forces away from a child and provides extra protection for the adjacent passenger.

These are definitely a thumbs up butterflies!

BOB Stroller from Britax Holiday #Giveaway! 1 winner {Ends 12/26}

Isn't it fantastic when an awesome union produces something truly wonderful? Now I'll bet your thinking of your little blessing aren't you? But in fact I'm talking about the Union of BOB Trailers, Inc (which began in 1994 as a manufacturer of Bicycle Trailers and is now considered one of the most innovative 'sport utility'/jogging strollers) and BRITAX which manufactures a full line of premium car seats, strollers, baby carriers and accessories! It's a win/win marriage of form and function all with infant safety at the forefront of it's mind.

"Families want products that fit their lifestyles," said Karl Kahofer, CEO of BRITAX Child Safety, "and BRITAX is committed to developing products and technologies that provide safe mobility and comfort for children around the world. We've admired for some time BOB's ingenuity and commitment to customers and are convinced that its products, customer service, and business ethics make it a natural fit for BRITAX. This purchase reinforces BRITAX global leadership in child safety and mobility, and is fully in line with our international growth strategy. We have no plans to change the BOB name; in fact we are excited to expand the BOB product range globally."

BRITAX acquired BOB Trailers in 2011 and this marriage of the minds is nothing but a win/win for families! They can literally meet the lifestyle needs of pretty much any family!

"When we started this company more than fifteen years ago," he said, "we simply wanted to design and manufacture the world's best single-wheel bike trailers, and later, the world's best strollers for active, sports-minded parents. When you look at the thoughtful engineering behind the BRITAX stroller line and the revolutionary design behind its car seats, you can see why our two companies will fit well together." ~ BOB cofounder and CEO, Roger Malinowski

Will a BOB have you covered? Just say CHECK!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Jogger? Check. (The Fixed Front Wheel gives you increased stability while hiking, jogging, or navigating crazy city streets too!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Tough Terrain? Check. (The State-of-the-Art adjustable suspension system provides a smooth ride! Not to mention the high-impact polymer composite wheels with pneumatic knobby tires and tubes provide increased traction! With a simple twist of the front wheel tracking adjustment knobs you will keep rolling straight throughout your jog or hike.)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Storage? Check. (A Low Cargo Basket provides undercarriage storage and there is more storage space in the large seatback pocket and the internal seat pockets are a great place to stash snacks and toys.)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Protection Against the Elements? Check. (The Adjustable, Multi-Position Canopy has got you covered, and the large viewing window allows you to keep an eye on your baby while on the go!)

My Take:

So butterflies, no excuses, your baby doesn't mean you have to give up your fitness routine, you can keep up your power walks, jogging or hiking and have extra time with baby too! Remember babies do need a certain amount of outdoor exposure, there is that vitamin we all need that only comes from some time in the daylight! The sun is our friend!

Win It!

November 17th is World Prematurity Day #ProtectPreemies #RSV

As you may remember on April 24th Ascending Butterfly hosted an Infant Nutrition Twitter Party, where we discussed the importance of Infant Nutrition for preemies, so I definitely couldn't let today go by without a reminder on the importance of prematurity awareness as today is ‘World Prematurity Day!’

Did you know that worldwide, 13 million babies are born early/premature every year? More than a half of a million in the United States alone? Prematurity is actually the leading cause of neonatal deaths! A recent survey on prematurity awareness revealed that 3 in 10 mothers of preemies weren't aware of the possibility of prematurity until they had their first child.

Because their immune systems and lungs aren’t fully developed, preemies are more likely to develop infections and are more susceptible to respiratory problems. In fact, 79 percent of preemie moms have a baby who was hospitalized due to a severe respiratory infection. One virus in particular that parents of preemies should know about is respiratory syncytial virus, commonly known as RSV. RSV is contracted by nearly all children by the age of two, often causing relatively minor symptoms that mimic the common cold. However, preemies are most at risk for developing much more serious symptoms, including a serious respiratory infection (severe RSV disease) from the virus, because their lungs are underdeveloped and they don’t have the antibodies needed to fight off infection. Below are a few quick facts that all parents should know about RSV:

RSV Quick Facts:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - RSV is the leading cause of infant hospitalization, and severe RSV disease causes up to 10 times as many infant deaths each year as the flu.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - RSV is most prevalent during the winter months. The CDC has defined the “RSV season” as beginning in November and lasting through March for most parts of North America.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - In addition to prematurity, common risk factors include low birth weight, certain lung or heart diseases, a family history of asthma and frequent contact with other children.

Premature Baby in NICU

Prevention is Key:

RSV is very contagious and can be spread easily through touching, sneezing and coughing. Since there’s no treatment for RSV, parents should take the following preventive steps to help protect their child:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Wash hands, toys, bedding, and play areas frequently

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Ensure you, your family, and any visitors in your home wash their hands or use hand sanitizer

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Avoid large crowds and people who are or have been sick

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Never let anyone smoke near your baby (that includes YOU!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Speak with your child’s doctor if he or she may be at high risk for RSV, as a preventive therapy may be available

Know the Symptoms: Contact your child’s pediatrician immediately if your child exhibits one or more of the following:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Severe coughing,  wheezing or rapid gasping breaths

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Blue color on the lips, mouth, or under the fingernails

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Speak with your child’s doctor if he or she may be at high risk for RSV, as a preventive therapy may be available

My Take:

Do your research! Sites like the RSV Protection Site provides detailed information on the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (Virus Sincicial Respiratorio). Being born prematurely, can have long-lasting effects on health well into adulthood. It is important that pregnant women give up smoking (even after the baby is born as second hand smoke exposure is as harmful to children if not more so as it to adults), and it also important that elective C-sections and labor inductions are discouraged unless there’s an important medical reason to do. Because of my own scare this year with my Lungs (and I have NEVER smoked by the way) I take Flu and RSV prevention very seriously and I hope you will too!

Butterfly, are you a Preemie Mom? What did you learn from your doctor about Preemie Care?

Reducing the Challenges and Hassles of Traveling with Little Ones!

Earlier this year I had a chance to visit the US Headquarters of Britax, and one of the most memorable parts of the trip was a crash test safety demo, I had seen something similar on a news documentary program, but actually seeing it up close and personal and literally 'feeling' the impact in my gut was one of the most impactful parts of my trip. Even though it was a crash test family of 'dummies',  a collective gasp and many 'Ay Dios!' or 'Ay Bendito's' ('Oh my God! and Poor Thing! respectively) could be heard by the bloggers watching that crash test demo. I don't think any of us, myself especially will ever forget it.

It made me think of child safety in a whole new way and the factory tour on the whole also opened up my eyes on what safety feaures to look for when it comes to infant carseats as well as strollers. They really aren't all created equal, in terms of more than just style, but safety features and ease of use. (I know the cliche gets annoying sometimes, but you really do get what you pay for!)

I will admit my sister butterflies did a great deal of research for my niece and nephew butterflies based on what was available to them at the time, but their consistent complaints about the systems they used was that the systems didn't necessarily grow with the child, and that as a result travel had it hassles (Me being the youngest butterfly in the family I get the benefits of their trial and error coupled with my own research!). Spending much of my professional career traveling, I witness families fumbling with their strollers at airport TSA Security Checkpoints all the time and of course upon boarding an airplane where they have tons of folks behind them while we patiently wait for them to fold their stroller and get situated.

There has to be a better way!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Travel System Compatible Infant Car Seats BRITAX infant car seats can be used rear facing only from 4 to 30 pounds, and are travel system compatible with the BRITAX CHAPERONE and B-Series strollers. (What happens past 30 pounds? Glad you asked! BRITAX also offers Convertible Car Seats for a weight up to 70 pounds and Standing Height 49 in or less, a Combination Harness-2-Booster with a weight of 25 to 85 pounds and Standing Height from 30 to 65 in tall as well as Belt-Positioning Booster Seats with a Weight from 40 to 120 pounds and a Standing Height from 38 to 63 in tall. (So the safety does NOT end at 30 pounds my friends!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ Travel System Compatible Strollers The BRITAX range has flexible and comfortable stroller solutions to suit your lifestyle. Strollers feature the CLICK and GO system that enables all BRITAX infant car seats to click into place to create convenient travel systems.

Safety You Can SEE:

Not only is there a website, www.britaxusa.com/safetyyoucansee, there is also a video:

My Take:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Travel System Compatible Infant Car Seats + Travel System Compatible Strollers with CLICK & GO = LESS HASSLE, LESS STRESS, FUN TRAVEL. That simple!

Butterflies, BRITAX takes your child's safety as seriously as you do, they want their systems to be safe and easy to use, take one less hassle out of travel and invest in a system that won't let you down!

Tips to Tackle Parenting's Messes and Stresses! #HuggiesLatino

I already know what you are thinking! But Butterfly, you are NOT a mom what would YOU know about Parenting Stress?

Actually I probably manage more little ones at a time than you do, when you are the only single girl left amongst married siblings, you somehow become the built in babysitter. And not just to one of your siblings kids, but try ALL of them! (and sometimes without even being asked if it's OK to bring them all over, but that's a story for another post I'm sure!) Let's not also forget about the Godchildren!

Sometimes it's not just for an afternoon or a day, but entire weekends with a tribe running around my tiny NYC apartment wreaking all kinds of havoc. Don't get me wrong, I love my nieces and nephews, and as a blogger I thankfully have an assortment of things to keep them busy even at various ages, and that coupled with my background as a Special Ed teacher (many moons ago), I have learned a thing or two about patience throughout the years!

TV personality and father of two, Poncho de Anda and family
Parenting can be overwhelming, but my wife and I work together to constantly improve upon what we’ve learned over the past few years with our children,” said Poncho de Anda. “And we’ve learned a lot – like relying on Huggies diapers and wipes, which stand up to the tests of our little ones and have helped us make it through long flights and even spaghetti night with ease!”

My tips for managing Parenting Stress:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - No Mom is an Island - Rally the Troops! - Remember when the baby was born, and everyone came to visit? They all OOhed and AAhed and promised to watch the baby like 'whenever'? Call in those markers ladies. Take an afternoon to yourself. I know you'll be tempted to run household errands with that precious time, but I highly suggest you take that time and do something for yourself. It will make you a happier mom/mami in the long run! (As a loving Auntie, I highly suggest calling and asking first!)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Treat MESS like a Virus - Quarantine it! - Try to keep the mess contained to one room. If you can keep kids in one designated play area (particularly in winter when they are stuck indoors) it will make things easier to manage later.

Poncho's Youngest, Dani

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Embrace your Inner Santa - That's right everyone likes an important job, tell your little elves, ahem I mean 'Helpers' how important their job is, and have them put away their toy as soon as they are done with that particular toy. Before taking out a new toy, make sure you put the first one away.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Let Go of the Better Homes and Gardens Ideal - Very few of us have maids, butlers, gardeners, and pool boys, let go of the idea that your home should like the inside of a featured house in Better Homes and Gardens. When you are living your life, it sometimes gets messy!

The NEW Britax Baby Carrier, featuring the CarryLong System!

On my Press Junket to North Carolina in May, I got a chance to tour the BritaxUSA Headquarters (see some pics from my HQ tour HERE), and also got the chance to come home with a new Britax Baby Carrier! As you know, this butterfly is not yet a mom, but with a Mother Goose load gaggle of nieces, nephews and Godchildren at various ages I certainly feel like a parent! I've racked up too many 'cool Auntie' points to count, which is both good and bad because my name comes to mind first when it comes time for babysitting detail!

*Sister Butterfly* (names always hidden to protect the *innocent*), saw it and called 'Dibs' before I could even interject the carrier and the cute tote bag in came in were being bundled into the car! I can't say I mind because I called Dibs on the front seat for car rides all the time growing up and always got to it first and they had to put up with it because I'm the cutest, *ahem* I mean the youngest!

Before she even got home there was a voicemail from me reminding her that the price of taking the carrier meant I wanted her quotes for the review. I already knew she'd refuse me pictures, as you know my family has made it very clear they don't mind being the subject of stories as long as they are not named, and they also prohibited me pictures of any of the kids. (Out of fear of Butterfly Stalkers, LOL!)

So newest Nephew Butterfly has been enjoying trips to the Park, and the Zoo, and of course fun errands with mom in his new carrier. And Sis Butterfly told me the new carrier is a 5 out of a possible 5 butterflies. High praise indeed, and she has quite a few carriers under her belt (no pun intended).

She told me first and foremost that I must point out the fact that this carrier is PTPA endorsed, PTPA Media is the leading product awards program with the largest parent-testing community and seal of approval recognized worldwide. That means this carrier is 'Parent Tested and Parent Approved'. She researches all her purchases here, and her face definitely lit up when she saw the seal of approval on the box!

Family Using Britax Baby Carriers

Just thought I'd point out, this is not Sister Butterfly, this photo was provided by Britax!
You can also see it in action by checking out the video below:

Living in the 'City that never sleeps' I can tell you that Carriers make it so much easier to get around, especially for quick errands! It gets crowded here, and having the ability to get around the City faster and easier is certainly a plus. The idea of dealing with a full stroller on the subway (especially right now in the summer) is a bit daunting, having the carrier makes it so much easier! But it's knowing that your baby will be BOTH Safe AND Comfortable that makes it worth it.
