In the mail awesomeness with @InfluensterVox @Maybelline #BigShotMascara @Allure_magazine #BeautyBox @preendotme @Elemis #spon

Influenster #BigShotMascara Vox Box, Allure Beauty Box, Kmart, Restonic, Target, Elemis, Maybelline, Briogeo, Spongelle, Tatcha, Klorane, Mally Cosmetics
This past holiday season was very much a mixed bag for me. But there was some "In the Mail Awesomeness" that I couldn't resist sharing!

On the minus side:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Lost a family member

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Another had surgery and is still bed ridden

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Writing became one more 'to do' on my plate that I just didn't have very much energy for at the end of the day. Very long, long, long days which are still not totally back to normal, but getting there.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Not to mention I can't remember the last time I took a picture and did photography just for fun and  my own memories and not for work.

On the plus side:

When I did give myself some time to roam on the interwebs, it paid off!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I stumbled upon the Lands End Marathon Twitter Party this year (which I would love to co-host someday myself) and ended up winning a $50 Gift Card! YAY ME! They host this twitter party marathon every year, and while I have participated each time this is the first time the randomizer Gods were smiling down upon me and I actually won.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - A friend shared a contest entry on her Facebook page as a status update and I entered a weekly contest for Restonic and I won a $100 Target Gift Card. I have a superstore near me and I can't wait to put a dent in that card!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I still have my Kmart Gift Card from participating in the Kmart Shopping Event in NYC for St. Jude (if you missed that post, click here)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I entered a contest on Preen.me for an Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream sample and won! (It can be seen in the photo at the top of the page)

Influenster #BigShotMascara Vox Box
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I qualified for an Influenster #BigShotMascara Vox Box and it arrived with the Colossal Big Shot Volum' Express Mascara #223 'Blackest Black' but also included a really neat bonus: Maybelline New York Master Precise Curvy liquid eyeliner #310 'Black' color - I must admit Vox Box is one my oldest box programs and I stick with them for good reason, so far their boxes have never disappointed me in any way. They always curate a great mix of cult classics and 'new to me's' that always end up getting added to my purchase list.

Allure Beauty Box, Briogeo, Spongelle Freesia Pear Body Wash Infused Buffer, Tatcha, Klorane, Mally Cosmetics, Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow Single

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - And for the first year ever Allure Magazine decided to thank members of their insiders program with an Allure Beauty Box - In December I received the October 2016 box which included:

Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask (for hair)

Spongelle Freesia Pear Body Wash Infused Buffer (looks sort of like a hockey puck and is stiff when dry but softens nicely in the shower and leaves you with a fresh scent and also buffs away dead skin cells)

Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow Single in 'Kristi' (brown powder eyeshadow with a tinge of shimmer)

Tatcha Indigo Soothing Silk Body Butter - contains indigo extract as well as colloidal oatmeal - allure calls it the 'cashmere onesie of body creams' YAS!!!!

Mally Volumizing Mascara - I will have to have a 'Mascara Off' and do one eye with the one I received from Influenster and the other eye with this one and see which one gives me the eyelashes with the most beautiful volume. 'Flirty Eyes Here I Come!' - I see you 2017! Because just like Jody Watley sings 'I'm looking for a new love baby, a new love....' - so I am fixing to get my flirty self all 2.0 for 2017.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk - I like the gentle scent on this one, the scent doesn't  linger and isn't over powering at all.

My Take:

I haven't torn into all of these new products yet and will do individual reviews of products once I have had a chance to thoroughly test them, these are mostly initial impressions.

It was nice to have "Beauty-Claus" pay a visit during a holiday season where the last thing I was thinking about was myself.

I think maybe it is the Universe trying to remind me to take some time for myself no matter what may be going on around me.

Readers Sound Off: What was your favorite gift from Santa this Christmas? Or if you are totally over the holidays, which of these products would you most like to try?

Listen Carefully: Dad does NOT want another Tie! + Wanna see a picture of 'Papa Butterfly'? #OralBDads #ad

Thanks to Oral-B for sponsoring this post. Don't forget to head to Target for pre-Father's Day savings on Oral-B electric toothbrushes!

Half of my good looks come from the happy man in the photo! 'Papa Butterfly' or more like 'Papi' to me, was a handsome man with a beautiful smile. He was meticulous about his appearance, and I do mean meticulous.

Dad was definitely a coffee drinker, but despite not missing his morning 'cafecito', he had the most pearly white teeth! Thankfully I inherited his strong pearly white teeth and NOT his love for coffee! My Dad had a very magnetic personality, he was definitely a 'life of the party' person who drew people to him, he had a great smile and a great laugh, to say I miss him dearly would be an understatement.

I do know if he were still here with me, the one thing I would not get him is a tie! Not that he didn't wear them, he did, but the older you get the more you understand how much seeing a tie must makes mens hair stand on end. As a former Special Ed Teacher, Apples do for me what ties do for men, make me cringe! I have a strong feeling men say about ties what teacher's say about apples, if I had a dollar for every.....(I think you can fill that in!)

I get what drew mom and dad together, they both are happy spirits and are both incredibly generous with those they love. They loved giving gifts, and loved that moment when they could see the reaction the recipient had to their gifts. It's something I definitely inherited from them. I love giving gifts and much like them, care about every detail of the gift, including the packaging and presentation.

Another trait my parents share is practicality, while they love being super generous to those they love, they are not always as comfortable being on the receiving end of what they deem an extravagant gift. Which sometimes make shopping for them harder. I for one normally avoid gifts I consider 'practical' it's mostly because I don't like getting them. I guess the saying really is true that we tend to give the gifts we actually want to receive. Which is why I do have a tendency to go over the top a bit.

While I didn't get as much time with my Dad as I would have liked, the one thing that I know holds true about most men, is they hate shopping for mostly everything but Electronics or Auto (and actually I'm a lot like that too so I'm not sure what that says about me!), so if you can get Dad something that knocks a to-do off his list that he doesn't like doing and is also a bit 'techy', why not get it for him?

Dads N Grads Gift Buying Guide Recommendation from The Official #TwitterPartyDJ

My apologies on the late start on this year's annual 'Dads N Grads' Buying Guide, but I can tell you it's worth the wait! My first pick not only perfectly covers both the Dads AND the Grads on your list, but it's also a great gift suggestion for any Music Lover in your life.

As you all know by now I'm fondly considered 'The Official #TwitterPartyDJ' because I love to host (and attend) twitter parties and spin party tunes that fit the party's respective theme. Music has been a long time passion and love of mine so throughout the years I've road tested my fair share of Audio, from Home Theatres to personal/portable and the accesories that go with them!

I literally enjoy music in every room of the house, when I'm cooking there is always music on. I have a huge pink boom box in my kitchen that is an iPod dock and I also have a different type of dock in the bathroom for long hot bubble bath music! I'm obsessed with music and am always updating my playlists. I'm an early adopter when it comes to tech, electronics, software and I'm currently obsessed with Spotify. I'm in the market for a new player as my bedroom dock died and I want something a bit jazzier than what I was using to replace it.

So my research is your gain, and of course this fab music loving, twitter party DJ'ing frugalista also had to find something that not only fit the bill, but also offers a great deal too!

dENiZEN by Levi's Jeans - Why you should RUN not walk and pick up a pair!

Even at my 'fighting weight' I'm naturally curvy.  I actually love my curves, but they have always made shopping for a denim a problem. I have a small waist in proportion to my hips, which means that most jeans have that annoying gap at the waist, or sit too snugly at the hips. I can try on literally hundreds of pairs in a store dressing room and leave empty handed. (Shopping for Jeans and Swimsuits tend to be the bain of most womens existence, can I get an Amen Ladies?)

My preference is for a medium weight, and while I like a bootcut, that is sometimes the only 'detail' you find in 'curvy' denim.

While I'm well past my jeans with holes trend days, I'm not exactly at that Mom Jeans stage either. I'd like some trend detailing!

I'm 26 pounds down and counting this year, and when Levi's contacted me to try out a pair of their dENiZEN jeans I was a bit nervous as I've NEVER had a one shot try on and walk out the store experience with jeans. I was even more nervous when they arrived and I saw 'misses' on the label, every jean I've owned in the past 10 years have all had the big 'W' on them!

I tried them on and much to my surprise fell in LOVE with them. I had a small and easy to remedy 'pero' (spanish for 'but'). They were actually a bit long for me even in the regular, so I had them hemmed. When I took them to the tailor, they all fell in love with the jeans at the shop and asked me tons of questions about them because they weren't yet available in my neighborhood's retail district at the time.

I'm super happy to report that dENiZEN by Levi's are readily available at your local Target store, available for men, women, and children and I urge you to RUN not walk and pick up a pair. They are truly the most well cut pair of Jeans I've owned in a long time, NO gap for me at the waist, fit like a glove (NO, not tight), and have a well done boot cut (not all curvy denim has to flare out like 70's bell bottoms!).

@2011 dENiZEN by Levi's Model Photo

Reasons to Love:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Totally Shaping at Waist (No Gap)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Boot Cut (slimming, but not overdone)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Tummy slimming panel (friends and family will ask, did you lose weight?)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - High stretch fabric (these move with you, not against you!)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Light Sand Blasting Detail
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Great Price Point

I have denim in my closet in a variety of price points, but these quickly became my favorite, and they are definitely my 'go-to' pair. Here is a pic of me wearing them (below) totally casual with sneakers on a day of running errands, but they look equally great with a crisp white blouse, cute boots and throw on a great necklace/acessories to dress them up more.

You can purchase these at Target (see your local ad to check price points at your nearest store as they may differ), and you can connect to all things dENiZEN on Facebook too!

Energizer: Recharge Smart™ Please Re-Charge Ascending Butterfly at BlogHer '10 - HELP, I NEED YOU!

Energizer® Recharge Smart™ is offering (2) $2,000 BlogHer’10 sponsorship opportunities through An Island Life and Barefoot Mommies blogs and I really want the job! That's where YOU come in dear reader, I need YOUR help!

Keeping it Green! - I love living greener and cleaner each and everyday and I love finding new ways to keep things OUT of our landfills. What we throw in landfills leaches in to the ground, into the water and ultimately into our bodies. A great way to reduce landfill waste is with re-chargeable batteries. But you don't just want any rechargeable battery, you want the new and improved Energizer® Recharge NiMH AA batteries. These 2300 mAh batteries can now be charged up to 250 MORE** times, and will last up to 4X longer* in digital cameras. Meaning LESS waste in our landfills! Which = greener! The ENERGY STAR®-certified Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger also features a slow charge rate, which extends the number of battery life cycles, and a bad battery alert that automatically indicates if the batteries are no longer useful or if a disposable battery has been inserted by mistake. I have been trying over the course of the past two years to change all appliances and gadgets to Energy Star certified ones, so I'm super excited about this new Charger! Making sure all our appliances are Energy Star Certified is a goal I set out for myself in terms of living green and making a positive environmental impact.

As many of you already know I am registered for BlogHer 2010, it will be held this year in New York City which I am incrediby excited about! I live in New York City, and I can't wait to show everyone that it's radically different than those scary and negative stereotypes! New Yorkers are helpful by nature! There is no better city than the 'City that Never Sleeps' for BlogHer 2010, and partnered with the Battery that keeps going, and going, and going, it's a win/win all around!

One of the things I really want to be able to do at BlogHer 2010 is live blog and live tweet about the event so that the bloggers and readers who can't be there will really feel like they are there, but that's going to be a bit difficult to do with a desktop computer that weighs more than a toddler! I'd love to use a portion of this Energizer Smart ChargHER sponsorship to purchase a laptop (one with a powerful battery life of course!) so I can live blog and live tweet! I've become a master at relaying pertinent information in 140 characters or less! And I'm sure BlogHer will really put that expertise to the test!

The job in a nutshell entails handing out USB drives that contain information about the Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger and better still on ONE of the chargers is a $500 gift certificate to Target! As you all know Ascending Butterfly is a Social Butterfly by nature and I will get a kick out of having so many people trying to find me at BlogHer! I have a funny feeling this would give me the chance to meet absolutely everyone in attendance!

Now you know Ascending Butterfly always wants to be sure there is something cool and unique in everything I propose to my readers, anyone who writes a blog post about the Energizer Smart Charger between Aug. 6 – Aug. 27,  will receive a $10 gift card to Target and an Energizer Smart Charger of their very own! There will be contact info on the USB drive for you to submit the link to Your post!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - How YOU can help - Tell BareFootMomma 'Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Ascending Butterfly should be the Smart ChargHer at BlogHer 2010 in NYC' by posting it on her Facebook wall HERE (if you are not already liking her, you need to 'Like' her first, then you can post your vote!). You can also send a shout out on Twitter by copying and pasting @BarefootMomma + @kailani Ascending Butterfly aka @Tracy_Iglesias should be the Smart ChargeHer at #BlogHer 2010 in NYC #energizer' into your twitter feed! I can't begin to express what your vote would mean to me. And know that by voting for me you are helping me to find a way to virtually 'take you with me' so you won't miss a thing at BlogHer 2010!
