Weekly Moment of #Gratitude: The Good, Bad and the Ugly Edition! Fall 2014! #NaBloPoMo

In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy
In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy

This feature has been M.I.A for awhile, not because I haven't had things to be grateful for, because I have, but because life has been a roller coaster of busy.

Not So Good:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I have been so busy lately that it has made writing pithy content feel more like a chore.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Bad Public Relations. - I have long since passed the point of having to 'prove myself' to anyone - both personally and professionally. On days where my pages were blank it wasn't for lack of content. My content cup overfloweth actually, but time however is at a premium. I read a blogger who wrote something that still makes me smile: 'I'd rather go dark, than go free.' and that's exactly how I have been feeling. Those so eager for attention are giving away things that established bloggers just simply won't.

Good and Grateful For Stuff:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Events that did provide unique experiences as lately those have been few and far between.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Brands that actually wanted real partnerships and not just a free mouthpiece.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Chopping off my hair for a good cause started me on wanting to make other changes in my life, from Fashion and Style to Professional changes as well.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I have learned to just simply ask 'bad pitchers' if they are being paid in their product regardless of what it is and send my Media Kit outlining rates. It makes time wasters go away and those who may really not have known better re-think their approach. It's funny how I have to provide metrics and tangibles to someone I wish to work with and brands think a 'review item' is enough to cover my work, your review product is NOT your tangible when you pitch me for a 'partnership' dear brand.

What am I grateful for Today?, Writing in the Sand
Ask yourself at the end of each day: What am I grateful for Today?

My Take:

I always miss this feature when I have to skip it to play catch up. And when I have to skip this feature to attend to something else it makes me feel so very far from my goals so I am participating in NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) and NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) to help me get back to my creative writing roots. I feel it will help so much with both the blog and my aspirational writing goals. I am also going to take out time to read more. I feel my writing is way better when I'm reading more and staying inspired.

What are you most grateful for this week Butterfly? Are any of my fellow writers participating in National Blog Posting or National Novel Writing Month in November?

Celebrating Asian Lunar New Year? Check out the @BestBuy #GiftCards with the Koi Fish! #bbylunarnewyear

#ad: Ascending Butterfly is a member of Best Buy's WOLF Blogger Program and is also a Brand Ambassador and Blogger Advisory Board Member and this is a Sponsored Post. Compensation in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or product/services at no or reduced cost has been exchanged, as always, all opinions are my own!

Best Buy is back this year with a themed Gift Card in honor of the Lunar New Year, and I love that Best Buy supports events they believe are of importance to their employees, customers and communities, and the upcoming Lunar New Year is one of those important celebrations.

While I know most of you still haven't taken down your Halloween decorations yet and are probably not ready to welcome November, the year 2014 is swiftly coming to a close butterflies. We turn the clocks back an hour this weekend for the end of Daylight Savings (Sunday, November 2nd) and as old man winter gets ready to settle in I for one can't help thinking of the new year ahead.

I learned of the Chinese Red Envelopes tradition, (known as Hong Bao) from an Asian shop while on vacation and absolutely fell in love with the idea and the tradition. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is said to ward off evil spirits, the amount of money in these envelopes will end in an even digit, according to Chinese belief odd-numbered money gifts are traditionally associated with funerals. There is also a tradition that money should not be given in fours nor should the number four appear in the amount as the pronunciation of the word 'four' resembles that of the word for 'death' which would be thought to bring bad luck. I find it interesting that in Japan the envelope is actually customarily white and NOT red.

WHERE TO GET IT:

1. Go to E-Gift Cards

2. Scroll to the right until you see the Gift Card with the Two Koi Fish.
3. Prefer a physical Gift Card? Press on the image below:

Press on the image above to purchase a $50 Best Buy Lunar New Year Gift Card

My Take:

My zodiac sign is 'Aries', and in Western Astrology, red is the color associated with my sign so I tend to gravitate to all things red.

A very dear penpal started me on the tradition of sending New Year's Cards and wishes, as she is Jewish and doesn't celebrate Christmas she asked many years ago if we could exchange New Year's wishes instead of Christmas Cards, and I loved the idea and expanded it to additional friends and family and many clients who have always appreciated the gesture. This year the upcoming Lunar New Year falls on February 19, 2015 of our Gregorian Calendar and I can't think of any better way to honor friends who observe the 'lucky money' custom than with this E-Gift Card! I may even make this image my screensaver during the month of February for a bit of extra luck!

2015 is the year of the sheep and as an Aries in Western Astrology I am totally digging this Year of the Sheep Graphic (I hope this means I am in for a 'lucky' year in 2015!):

What is YOUR New Year Tradition Butterfly? Do you celebrate Lunar New Year? If so, tag us on a picture of your 'lucky money' envelope this year, we would LOVE to see it!

Highlights from the 2014 Fashion Forward Conference in New York City! @fashforwardconf #FashForward

Fashion Forward Conference logo

The Fashion Forward Conference is organized by  and momtrends.

I am not a mom but I absolutely love their motto:

"The Fashion Forward Conference aims to to bring aspirational and attainable fashion and style to real moms – after all why should women lose their sense of style just because they became moms…"
Many of you had the chance to follow my live tweets and I posted quite a few pictures via instagram as well, but I also wanted to do a full recap and include some hi res photos and video too.

Fashion Forward Conference itinerary and roses
Pink Roses by Passion Roses! Pretty! Looks like a full itinerary is ahead of us!

Fashion Forward Conference Organizers Nicole Feliciano, Audrey McClellan, Vera Sweeney
Conference Organizers from Left to Right: Nicole Feliciano, Audrey  McClellan, Vera Sweeney
Sponsors/Exhibitors (In no particular order!):

Kevita Sparkling Probiotic Drinks
Kevita Sparkling Probiotic Drinks

Staying healthy and keeping hydrated couldn't be easier with Kevita Sparkling Probiotic Drinks, I got to try out a few flavors during the Fashion Forward Conference and really like these!

You guys know just how much I love Dyson, and I was happy to see them again at The Fashion Forward Conference in New York City! I have reviewed both the DC65 and the DC44 by Dyson and they are both amazing!

CVS Gold Emblem Abound Snacks
Gold Emblem Abound Snacks are sold at CVS

CVS also helped to keep up our energy with their Gold Emblem Abound Snacks! There were Bars and Trail Mix and they were both really good! (These would be a great addition to some of my health monthly subscription boxes!) If you are a blogger and like me maintain your blog during 'off' hours, keeping these in stock instead of greasy chips or chocolate might be a great way to keep your energy up while writing and not packing on the pounds from snacking so late!

Dansko Shoes
Dansko Shoes

I adore animal prints, so needless to say these shoes by Dansko caught my eye!

CAbi makes selling social with a personal shopping experience and sought after home based Career Opportunity, needless to say I honed in on the Animal Print Leggings!

Christy Turlington Burns is the founder of Every Mother Counts an organization that is dedicated to raising funds that help support maternal health programs around the world.

Miraclesuit at Fashion Forward Conference in NYC
Miraclesuit at Fashion Forward Conference in NYC

I met the team at Miraclesuit earlier in the year at a Trendy Travel event and was lucky enough to win their raffle for a new swimsuit! I wore that suit this summer to Atlantic City (HERE is a post with me wearing it), and I just love it! Well guess what? Lightening can strike twice my friends as I won the raffle for Miraclesuit AGAIN at Fashion Forward! (I haven't picked out my prize yet but you will see it when I do!)

The Boodle Box - A monthly subscription service for 'fashionistas-in-training'
The Boodle Box - A monthly subscription service for 'fashionistas-in-training'

The Boodle Box, Un-boxed, A monthly subscription service for 'fashionistas-in-training'
Here is a peek inside one a Boodle Box (I love that TAI Bracelet and the bag as those are MY initials!!!)

I am a huge fan of subscription box services and was introduced to one I was not yet familiar with at Fashion Forward - the Boodle Box, a subscription box service for girls and teens loaded with Accessories and Jewelry that are fab and age appropriate! I'm thinking my nieces would LOVE these!

End of the adult fashion show (there was one for the little ones as well) with all the models, brands being worn by the models included: CAbi, Dansko, Miraclesuit, J. Jill, Gwynnie Bee, Heucy, Talbots, Alex and Ani and Mark by Avon.

Check out the Video Highlights:

My Take:

I have been attending Fashion Forward since it's inception and it has been wonderful to see it grow and evolve. No two have been alike, and the speakers are always phenomenal! I loved the Fashion featured, totally functional and perfect for life - while runway fashion during Fashion Week here in New York City is always fun to look at, not all of it really works in my daily life, so it's nice to see a Fashion show that features clothes for women of ALL shapes and sizes and all walks of life. I loved discovering healthy goods too like Kelvita and Gold Emblem Abound, I hadn't heard of them before this, but will be going out to purchase these now. (I keep telling brands that sponsoring conferences and local events too are always smart, when women are passionate about something we ALWAYS share!). From the new brands now on my radar and seeing new stuff from brands I already know and love, no two Fashion Forward conferences are ever the same and that's exactly why I love them!

Is there a brand above that's new to you butterfly? Which would you most like to try? (Who knows, if there is a brand you really love maybe we can get them to come back and do something fun for readers!)

FTC Disclosure: I was invited to this conference as a member of the Digital Media, I was fed, and gift bags were provided to attendees, however all opinions expressed in this recap are 100% my own! No monetary compensation has been received to share my recap of the Fashion Forward Conference.

Where are my adventure lovers? Where are my thrill seekers? Where are my photography enthusiasts with a lust for life? If you took grainy, less than stellar action shots this summer that were totally un-usable, how about hinting to Santa that you need a new camera for the holidays this year?

Our friends at Best Buy have some product ideas that will help you 'up your action shot game', they are the home of the latest cameras and camcorders and they offer a full line of new GoPro Cameras that will help you capture that perfect winter shot from the ski slopes this holiday season.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - This unit also offers 1080p and 720p video, but picture is 5MP up to 5fps

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 12x more powerful processor with 2x faster video frame rates

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Features integrated WATERPROOF housing for use in up to 131' of water!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Auto low-light setting will automatically compensate for dim lighting.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ A COOL FREEBIE: Note that right now if you order the GoPro at Best Buy you can nab a cool free bonus item: A Shutterfly 8 X 8 Photo Book to help you preserve those memories you just captured. The Digital Age is great, but I personally still love photo books, and seeing my photos all in one place instead of across a plethora of devices!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Ultra-wide-angle glass lens - for an expansive field of view

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - QuikCapture - Turn your camera on and begin recording with the push of a button

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Built-in battery - up to 2.5 hours of recording time

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Built-in microphone - the skeleton backdoor of this unit enhances audio capture during low-speed activities.

My Take:

One of the hardest places to capture a still shot or video is on something moving, this is type of camera you want if you are at an amusement park and want to capture that look of horror on your friends faces as a roller coaster descends, or that moment when you are swooshing down a ski slope to capture the scenery gliding by as you whiz past it!

Check out GoPro at Best Buy to figure out which GoPro model is right for you and check out user reviews too! I love that you get awesome functionality with any of the GoPro models but you don't have to buy more camera than you need as the basic model is super feature rich in its own right!

Which GoPro Model will you choose Butterfly?

Keeping #Health and #Fitness in Focus this Fall with @BuluBox #SubscriptionBox

September 2014 Bulu Box
September 2014 Bulu Box

My October Bulu Box is on it's way and I realized I forgot to share my September Box!

I have been super over-committed lately and this pace will probably just increase through the holidays so it's great I have Bulu Box to keep me going with great health, weight management and fitness products to keep me fueled for my busy life.

Let's dive into this box in alphabetical order!

The September 2014 Bulu Box Included:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - KIND Healthy Grains Oat & Honey Toasted Coconut Bar - With a foundation of 5 super grains (oats, millet, quinoa, amaranth and buckwheat), gluten free oats that are sweetened with honey and toasted coconut flakes, these are chewy with a crunch! I for one love to have bars in my purse and desk, in case my public transportation commute runs into un-expected delays or I am in a rush and have to skip breakfast. Bars are always a great quick breakfast go-to for me.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Manitoba Harvest HempPro 70 - This plant based hemp protein supplement packs 14g of protein, 2.7 g OMEGA 3 and 6, is water soluble and mixes easily into any drink or you can stir it into yogurt or hot cereal! As it has all essential amino acids it's a great complement to any vegan or vegetarian diet! Smoothie anyone?

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NuHair For Women Styling Foam - A styling foam with a Natural Peptide Complex that can defend against hair follicle damage and graying hair, nourish hair follicles for fuller more beautiful hair and energize the hair follicles for healthy hair growth as well as revitalize hair texture to add shine? YES, PLEASE!!! Don't hate but I don't have Gray hair so I can't speak to whether or not that part is true because I don't have them, but I do have naturally thin hair so I love trying out thickeners and the foam application is truly easy, this product has no sulfates, parabens, petrolatum, mineral oil or phthalates but it does have Shea Butter, Grape Seed Extract, Chamomile, Sage, and Rosemary and is a DHT inhibtitor. As both men and women age their levels of DHT increase, and increased DHT levels lead to hair loss or thinning hair. As I use it longer I will report back on how well it works for thinning.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Powbab Superfruit Chews - Powbab immunity boosting superfruit chews contain Baobab fruit pulp which is high in anti-oxidants (more so in fact than pomegranate, blueberry, acai, and cranberry!) and they are high in Vitamin C (more Vitamin C than kiwi, strawberry, orange or grapefruit) and contains 12 minerals and vitamins. This chew actually combines pomegranate and acai berry with Boabab - giving you a 'superfood' in a super portable chew. Again I love having immunity boosters in my bag or desk so I don't forget to do something good for myself each and everyday!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - ClearLungs Chest Rub - All natural blend of aromatic oils and Chinese herbs to help sooth coughs and colds, relieve congestion and breath easier! It can also be used on muscles and joints to relieve minor aches and pain, Ridgecrest Chest Rub has been the #1 natural lung health product in the United States for almost 16 years. With winter swiftly approaching here in the North East I am going to need to stock up on this for sure!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Swirl Tea - Iced Green Tea in just 10 minutes with convenient stick packs that you just drop into a cold water bottle. Made with premium quality all natural green tea leaves and has no preservatives or artificial additives. Green Tea is a natural source of antioxidants and helps to combat free radicals which helps revitalize the body on a cellular level. (10 minutes for a light brew and 30 for a full-bodied flavor) - and did I tell you there is NO calories or sugar!

How has this Mercury Retrograde Wreaked Havoc on YOUR life so far?

Mercury Retrograde Crossroads Graphic
Great Advice from Spiritual Spew - Practicing Patience and the art of 'non-reaction' is still something I am working on!

For those of you who are not clear what a Mercury Retrograde means, it is when the Planet Mercury slows down and appears to 'stop' (or station) and move 'backwards' (retrograde), this happens three to four times per year.

I found the graphic I used above via websearch on a blog called Spiritual Spew, you should check out the original article this photo is attributed to HERE. And no, I don't know her and this is NOT a sponsored post or plug in any way for anyone, just real talk.

Mercury Retrograde Proceed With Caution Graphic

They say during a Mercury Retrograde that you should NOT engage in any binding contracts (you are to postpone signing any contracts until after the Retrograde period is over), expect delays while travelling, don't buy electronic equipment or a new car, and do not go in surgery that is avoidable. You should also take caution while speaking (or in a writers case while writing) as your words may come out in a way you didn't intend them to. During this time period many people experience computer problems or phone lines going down. (This has definitely been happening to me!)

Interesting also to note, a lost idea or person can come back into your life, sometimes someone with a mysterious 'pull' on your psyche. We are to draw hope that this retro back in air signs (those born under the zodiac signs of Libra, Aquarius and Gemini) is allowing us to take a mental review of our mind and it's patterns and what conclusion we draw from our experiences. The positive of this particular retrograde is that it is supposed to be allowing us to see our past from a different angle or perspective.

Advice to survive the Mercury Retrograde
Great Advice from the folks at Illuminating Souls!

I personally don't remember any retrograde period that I have seen referenced so much as I have this one. Apparently this one is hitting many hard.

For me so far, people from my past have in fact re-surfaced, people who were absolute back-stabbers and sneaky snakes who took way more from my time and energy than they ever added to it and I have refused to re-connect with any of them on any level.

At the end of the day a Mercury Retrograde is also considered a time of 'fated' events. I for one, feel very much like I am at a crossroads in my life. Personally, Professionally, and Spiritually. I feel this retrograde while almost nearing its completion, will reveal a lot more.

This is the last retro for 2014, a fact for which I for one am very much grateful! Take note of any major themes that occur for you during this retrograde period. If you are prone to keeping a journal, this time period will probably offer you some very interesting reads when you look back at this time in your life!

Butterflies how has this Mercury Retrograde Period affected your life?

(and it is so sad I need to add this, but bible thumpers do NOT try to comment about the evils of astrology, I am just plain not the one, I moderate all comments and will not only delete them but I will block you also, no trolls allowed! Engagement and Conversation always welcome, negativity however is NOT!)
