Ascending Butterfly Holidays Buying Guide 2010, Twenty Second Giveaway sponsored by:
What Will YOU Create Today?
Are you crafty? In the good way that is!
I developed a love of scrapbooking from my Grandmother, and while I know she didn't invent it, I can tell you with assurance she re-invented it! She was the most creative person I know with all things crafty, scrapbooking, embroidery, you name it. When she put a personal touch on something, you would never forget it. I now have her albums, which are all scrapbooks, because not one photo album is plain, they are all designed with borders, shapes and embellishments that she created by hand, no machines. I still have embroidered pillowcases that she made me, all personalized with my initials and intricate designs and borders. I absolutely cherish them.
While I still have the love of scrapbooking and all things crafty, I don't always have the time, and admittedly the patience to make all my borders, shapes and embellishments by hand. Luckily I don't have to!
I also developed a love for handmade cards throughout the years and I wanted to find a way to create them at home, there is something about a hand made card that store bought just can't touch! And as I am sure many of you learned the hard way, not all printers handle thick cardstock very well, and using your printer on cardstock even if your printer can handle the thickness can end up using a ton of ink if you are making borders on cardstock with your printer. Even worse you can sometimes end up with excess ink that you are unaware of until you go to print a spreadsheet or presentation and see smearing of the color on the page!
Creativity Meet Creatopia
Xyron® Creatopia™The perfect all-in-one machine for all your craft, home and school projects. Apply even edge-to-edge adhesive onto items up to 12" wide and ½" thick. It also laminates, embosses and cuts straight or decorative edges on items up to 12" wide and creates die press shapes on paper up to 6 ½" wide!
Xyron® Refillz™Available in Permanent, Repostionable and Fabric, these adhesive cartridges apply an even edge-to-edge adhesive to a variety of surfaces. A Two-Sided Laminate cartridge is also available to apply a protective laminate to both sides of your media.
Xyron® Cutz™Xyron Cutz is a versatile rotary cutting system. Cut paper, fabric and other thin materials up to 12.5" wide to size or into strips with a variety of straight or fancy blades. There is even a card kit for scoring and perforating
Xyron® Border Patternz™Emboss borders or small designs into craft paper and cardstock up to 65 lbs.
I wish my Grandma could be here to help me put the Creatopia through it's paces (although afterwards it certainly would have gone to her!), but I did make some totally cute handmade cards so far, updated my scrapbooks, and made photo frames too! I think I did grandma proud!
My Take
I often get teased for hating to read manuals to set things up, but my aversion to manuals actually worked better for me when setting up and getting to know my Creatopia! I relied on YouTube tutorials to help me get started, get project ideas and get my creative juices flowing! I even included one of the YouTube videos so you could see it in action too! I would highly advise you to watch the videos as well if you are a total novice. Intermediates are going to be thrilled at the versatility this machine offers. Advanced and 'power creative' types will incorporate the Creatopia into their project room and probably come up with ideas that even Xyron hasn't thought up yet! As I get more advanced with it I'd like to take on making my own boxes and custom packages as I'm an aspiring jewelry designer and I want a creative and totally personal packaging that is unique to each piece that I design!
Pros:
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵
̨̄Ʒ - All-in-one machine that embosses, cuts, laminates, and more!
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Refillz© are acid-free, no worry about using this adhesive for scrapbooks
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Great instructional videos for first timers
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I can't get over how easy this machine makes borders for me, this is the part that normally took me the longest in scrapbooking, and this little wonder definitely cuts down on the time it takes, and I can now go much thicker, and use pretty thick cardstock, for certain themes and effects it is amazing to have more flexibility!
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ -You can truly laminate 12 x 12 so if you are working on a cookbook for family recipes, you are going to LOVE this!
Cons
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵
̨̄Ʒ - Big Footprint, but that is to be expected for the flexibility of being able to truly laminate 12 x 12
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵
̨̄Ʒ - It's a bit awkward at first changing out. Like changing the patternz, cutz etc which can be eliminated simply by having your laptop or ipad handy when you are setting up so you can cue up a helpful instructional video to help you get started!

My first project would probably be some cards. I have paper, a collection of doodads, embellishments that have been waiting patiently for me to get the time and ambition to put them together. This crafting machine is what I've been needing. I hope people that already have one don't enter this. There are people that really want one and can't afford. I watch all of the infomercials on machines like this and I can't sleep because I have to watch the whole thing at 4 o'clock in the morning! Pick me please!!!

My favorite Xmas Eve tradition is to pick my mom up form the nursing home she insists on living in (doesn't want to "burden her kids".
ReplyDeleteWe then go to one of my sister's house and have Xmas with her. I am the oldest of 9, so having her there on Xmas day with the whole family is too much for her. SO...we do a small gathering on Xmas Ev just for her. Did I mention that my mom "graduated" from Hospice a year ago? We are soooo lucky to be able to have her for my 3rd year of my Xmas Eve tradition!

For the Christmas eve ritual we just talk about Christmas and the meaning and what we loved most about the year..The kids are so excited that when they finally go to sleep, we set out the presents (we wait for over an hour in case they get up lol). We then try to get some sleep because they get up so early

I may have written this before, but my favorite Christmas Eve ritual is putting out "reindeer food" (in our house this is oatmeal mixed with shredded mylar). My kids are older now (Ashlye just started college) but this is a tradition they still love. They run out in their pjs just before bed and scatter the "food" on the lawn. I have the best photos of them over the years -- definitely something I hope they pass on to their own children someday!

ReplyDelete2. My first project would be a bulletin board at work. Each month a co-worker and I come up with some creative theme and then see what we can put together with free clip art, fabric scraps etc. I think this gadget would be great for us to work with!

Our Christmas Eve ritual is to track Santa, set out milk and cookies for Santa, and make sure they are gone and the letter left for him is responded to. Stockings have to be set out, and Santa gifts must be placed around the tree!
ReplyDeleteruthaw_1974@yahoo.com
The first thing that I would create would be a t-shirt for my family and friends.

I have heart deigns on my dishes and my kitchen decor is blue/mauve hearts
The wall behind my counters underneath my counters is the same material as my counter so it is bland and dull looking so I would want to make vinyl hearts for the wall behind my kitchen counter to add color and make it stand out and bring out my decor better
