@Sakroots Spring 2013 Collection Preview! #fashion #handbags #accessories

This week I had the pleasure of attending Sakroots Spring 2013 Media Preview Event & California Fiesta, and was so inspired I created a fun photo collage of my pictures! The preview was alight with great spring colors, new shoes (and some previously launched ones that were re-designed taking consumer feedback into account, think of them as shoes 2.0, newly re-designed for YOUR comfort!), and of course fabulous handbags!

I was happy to see tons of butterflies, on the bags, and the wallets. The wallets actually have the butterflies embroidered on for a fun 3 dimensional feel. I also loved the butterfly keychains which would also double for phenomenal zipper pulls for your handbags!

As The Sak is headquartered in my favorite state California, they opted to host a 'California Fiesta' complete with quesadillas, chips n dips and the best guacamole ever! (Love my avocados!).

The nature inspired prints and fun colors have me looking forward to Spring 2013 already, my two standout prints so far were the Aqua Flower Power (of course because of the butterflies) and the Raspberry Dreamland print which is a funky fun Unicorn print with a tattoo type vibe. (For those of you coming off BlogHer12, think of it where the Sparklecorn party meets Ed Hardy!)

Amp Up Your Summer Style with a D&Y Floppy Hat!

The folks at David & Young (D&Y for short) have transformed the Floppy Hat, keeping it fashionable, but 'high tech'. The D&Y Sun Collection Series has been certified by an independent laboratory to have a rating of UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) 50+. Unlike SPF that measures only UVB rays, UPF measures both UVA and UVB rays. UPF 50 is considered the ultimate in UV sun protection. These carefully crafted, form-fitting, high fashion hats can be worn as part of a regimen to protect against the effects of the sun, including premature wrinkling and sunburn!

I received the Blue Hat featured on the lower right hand side of the photo collage above, and I love that it's easily packable, I love the black ribbon detailing, and I love that it is keeping me protected from the sun. It's often times overlooked, but your scalp is extremely vulnerable to the sun, and really should be protected. If you have thin hair and don't want to add additional product to it to protect yourself from the sun, these hats are pure genius!

In December, we worked with Energy Muse to bring you the Rune of 'Riches' Necklace see review HERE. For Valentine's Day I was sent the Rune of 'Romance' Necklace and as a single girl in the city, I have to admit I was bit curious to see if this one would work the same magic in my life as the Rune of Riches! I immediately put it on, saged it (I do this with all gemstone jewelry), set my intention, said the included affirmation and even added a few of my own. The weather was awful the day the necklace arrived, and I had stayed indoors the entire day and worked mostly from home.

The Day of it's Debut in New York City!

I finally had a chance to wear my new necklace and during New York Fashion Week No Less! With the awfully cold weather it was mostly under my coat and I wondered if I would experience the same results if the necklace wasn't as clearly visible.

I didn't have very long to wonder how well it would work! I was on the subway when a man sitting in front of me tried to strike up a conversation out of the blue! This rarely ever happens to me! Most of my subway conversations with strangers on trains are usually about the garbled announcement, or why is the train not moving?

During back to back events that day I found people 'friendlier', just more 'welcoming' somehow. 

After a super long day when I was finally on my way home, I realized I had no energy to cook but was starving, so I decided to pick up some fast food. As I was walking from the restaurant toward home, I saw someone coming toward me in the opposite direction. I had a feeling he was going to say something to me, but I wasn't very sure what. And I will admit as a born and raised New Yorker I was slightly expecting a dis-respectful catcall. And when he approached me, he completely took me in with his eyes (I must admit this was a bit off-putting!), and then just said 'Gorgeous' and turned beet red and walked away! He seemed more taken aback by it all than I was!

It was absolutely flattering to receive such a sincere compliment, and seeing a grown man turn as bashful as a kid was a fun bonus! He actually walked away before I could even answer!

I have found much like with the Rune of Riches people are very attracted to this necklace when I wear it. Maybe they can 'feel' the positive intentions I've set, and anything we are vibrationally aligned to is that much more powerful!

While I have not completed the full 21 day cycle of saying the included affirmations with this necklace, I have already noticed more people 'drawn' to me. I find during networking events I'm way less nervous, and I have noticed more attention when I am wearing this necklace, will 2011 finally be the year cupid gets me?

Plenty of Dresses, Where Fashionable Meets Affordable!

Now that the little one's are back in school, have you taken a moment to think about your wardrobe yet? Have you swapped out your summer clothes and started looking at your Fall clothes and sadly realized you've come up a bit short for yourself? Do you have a perfect outfit at the ready for Thanksgiving, for office holiday parties and family festivities?

I am currently in the process of clearing out closets, and getting my home and wardrobe and ready for the new season.

I have to start by apologizing, this review is way overdue, and I want to thank Plenty of Dresses for their patience!

I connected with Plenty of Dresses earlier this year and as I am a butterfly lover, I was sent a variety of butterfly themed items to review. Two very special blouses, that I absolutely adore and a pair of super cute butterfly earrings that were thrown in by the owner, which I thought was extremely thoughtful!

I wore the first blouse and the earrings on my smooth jazz cruise this summer and received numerous compliments! I absolutely love this blouse, it has washed very well, no pills, and no fade out in the silver butterfly design. It looks fab on it's own as I paired it with Black Pants, and also super cute under a jacket for a quick change for evening. I posted the picture of me wearing it earlier this summer, but I just thought I'd show it to you again:

It runs true to size, and I can report it is super comfortable. If you'd like to grab one, it's still in stock, it's called Blue With Butterfly if you can't wait and want to order it now! (And I couldn't blame you!) The other two items don't appear to be in stock (including the butterfly earrings I am wearing in the photo), but there are a wide variety of butterfly themed and non-butterfly themed fabulous clothing that are. And I'm very excited to share that Plenty of Dresses has an excellent variety of Plus Sized items in stock as well. Sometimes when it comes to plus sizing you end up feeling cheated because the selection isn't normally as varied as smaller sizes, but not at Plenty of Dresses! I find it a time saver that I can shop by size and find something super cute that is in stock and available in my size!

I love to get a behind the scenes of brands I work with, and when I'm allowed a glimpse of the person behind the brand I jump at the chance. Plenty of Dresses is a one woman show, that began as a retail location in Canada, the owners, sisters, grew the shop that started with jewelry and accessories, one sister married and moved abroad and the sister that remained expanded the store slowly. She added clothing in a variety of styles, and it took off! Customers responded enthusiastically, and she experienced increased sales and steady growth. And eventually an online shop was formed, that is how Plenty of Dresses was born!

The owner, is the most down-to-earth, approachable person ever (and she's super patient too!) and when I asked her for a bio and more about her she shared her story, but something she wrote really stood out with me, she said:

I honestly don't know how she manages to juggle the demands of a brick and mortar store and running an online shop simultaneously! But with her drive, ambition and perserverance I have no doubt in my mind her quote above will come to pass! I have been testing out an amazing Fall Bag from Elliott Lucca, the "Granada Solid Trapezoid Satchel" in a color called 'boysenberry'. Its shape is somewhat reminiscent of a Doctor's Bag, and the Front outside pocket features a super hot turnlock closure! I love that it plays up trends well without being so over the top that you would only whip it out on special occassions! I look for a solid investment in my handbags, and this bag does not disappoint! Fellow public transportation commuters you'll love that Elliott Lucca remembers to include a longer strap so you can also wear it over the shoulder and keep your hands free! Without the strap it still has a very generous drop, but if you experience super cold winters where you are, and love to layer like I do, you'll probably want to switch to the longer strap once it gets colder out!

In addition to the front outside pocket, the lining features two multi function pockets and a zippered backwall pocket. I love having organizational pockets to keep my Mp3 Player, Cell Phone and Digital Camera safe while in transit in my bag! I love that this bag is super roomy, but not so big that a shorter statured person would hate the silhoutte. (Thankfully I'm pretty tall so I can carry pretty much any silhoutte in a bag!) I can carry what I need to have with me on a day-to-day basis without the need for multiple bags or additional totes. It's a quality bag, but does not add that unwanted heft that come with some bags. Some bags are just so heavy on their own that by the time you add your own stuff, your shoulders hurt at the end of the day, or you end up walking with one shoulder higher than the other. I'm happy to report I did not experience this with the Granada Bag!

I've worn it now to several events and have received numerous compliments on it, and have had people stop and ask me 'what bag is that'? And one person that asked was a guy who was looking for a birthday gift for his girlfriend and new she'd like this bag! (If only he had a single brother!)

When I invest in a bag I always ask myself two questions (1) Is this a 'one-season wonder'? (2) Does the color work well with my wardrobe? - I am happy to report that my answers to these questions with the Granada are a (1) No - The structure will carry forward for way more than one season and (2) Yes, while Purple is a bold color the fact that it is not overly embellished means it works much like a neutral yet still stands out in the crowd.

I am pretty tough on my handbags. I'm a public transportation commuter in the heart of New York City and unlike many women I see around me on the train, I refuse to carry a handbag, a totebag with my lunch, a totebag to hold my shoes, you get the picture. I put everything in ONE bag. And that bag must have  a cross over shoulder option, so I can have my hands free. To say my bag gets 'over-stuffed' daily is an under-statement. Another thing you'll notice is that I favor darker colored bags because I am so tough on them.

Twisted Orchid forced me to go outside my comfort zone with the 'Orchid Large Pink Tote'. I love the size, it definitely passes my 'could this pass for leather test' even though it's NOT, it's animal friendly, and it's PINK. Yes, pink. Most people who know me, know I'm definitely not the pink and frilly gal. Nothing against the color or anything but I'm a black wearing New Yorker and wondered if this dainty colored bag could possibly hold up to my daily commute. I thought for sure this bag would end up with strange stains and punctured by having one of my high heels poke a hole through it from the inside, but I was pleasantly surprised! This bag passed the rigors of a weekly NYC public transportation commute (in the summertime no less) with flying colors. It's been well past 30 days and this bag still looks NEW! And the stitching hasn't even buckled under the enormous weight load I put it through daily!

Here's the Skinny: I love this bag! It's the right size for me, despite the fact I carry a lot each day, I don't want my bag to look like I'm using a weekender! This doesn't look like a duffel, but holds up like one. The color is absolutely perfect for Spring and Summer, and it's just the right shade of pink for those of you who are much like me and wouldn't normally go with pink, this isn't peptol or neon or so faded you'd think it's white, it's a true pink rose petal, and very versatile. It has the pockets I love, especially on the outside (I need to reach my metrocard QUICKLY! and with one hand....) So do I recommend? That's a resounding YES ladies! I don't mind embracing more ways to stay 'green' but when it comes to handbags I still have my preferences, this bag helped me to be 'green' and not feel like I was compromising my favorite and preferred bag style type in the process! Where Bag Meets Art

I have a long time fascination with Asian Art and (a very obvious to my readers) admiration (or is that obsession) with fine leather bags! One of the most recognized Asian symbols of ancient lore is the Dragon, whose origins are traced to China. The dragon is seen as a Protector to many Buddhists, also as a symbol of Imperial Power, Guardian of Eastern Direction (in Feng Shui, Dragons are placed in the main area of the home or office), Controller of Rain & Tempests, Guardian of the Tide Jewels, Bringer of Wealth & Fortune and also as a Magical Shape Shifter. The Dragon sounds a bit like me, "wearer of many hats"!

Imagine how surprised I was to find my two favorites merged together to form what simply has to be the perfect marriage between art and handbag! I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw the 'Dragon Nymph' bag by CAMENAE!

This bag is a collectible work of art and I am floored, and honestly plain humbled to have it. I can't stop looking at it! (I have a ring that matches it perfectly, I somehow feel that this bag was designed with ME in mind!) I want it in EVERY color! There are no important details missing, from it's feet to it's unique hardware, it's beautiful tassels and striking unique interchangeable straps, this bag turns heads. It arrives in it's dust bag, and the straps are also packaged in their dust bags. It has a tan organizational Waterproof treated lining that gives you room for your cell phone, sunglasses, keys,  MP3 player and more.

I love that the Straps are interchangeable (they Lock in place with a key and are easy to attach and remove, just remember to 'unlock' it again when you are ready to swap straps!) and I love the Dragon Strap in the Metallic Bronze color as pictured above! I feel this color truly does the detail of the intricate Dragon design justice!

Just a helpful Reminder: How to Follow A Blog Publicly Using Google Friends Connect:

Please look to the upper right hand side, where the follower pictures are. (Note the number of followers before you start this process)

1) press the follow button - the google pop up wizard will open, this is not an ad and your pop up blocker will not block it

2) tick the option that reads 'follow this blog publicly' once that button is selected, hit follow again - it should now read 'you are now following'

3) if the follower count went up you know you did it succesfully, if your profile has a picture, that picture will be the first one on the left side. If your profile doesn't have one, it should still be searchable on the members list. (Remember, following a blog, does NOT subscribe you to receive emails, you have to subscribe separately to do that, you will not receive emails for following)

Are you getting the dreaded 'Your Entry Can't Be Processed' message when leaving an entry or comment? Before hitting enter, highlight your comment and COPY it. If you get that message after hitting enter and your comment is still there, just ignore the message and hit enter again, then you will get a screen with a captcha code, enter the captcha code, then submit and VOILA. If after you hit the submit button the first time, you get the dreaded message and the comment 'disappeared' no worries, that's why I asked you to copy it in the first step. Paste it back in and submit again. This has worked for me when comment boxes have glitched on me, and I hope it helps you too!
