Photo Highlights & Important Quotes from @WeAllGrowSummit New York City Tour! #WeAllGrowNYC

We All Grow Summit #WeAllGrowNYC

The We All Grow Summit is a Blogging Conference whose mission is to unite our community, infuse YOUR professional growth with hand's on learning and networking opportunities which is held in Southern California annually. This year the Summit visited a few main cities around the United States, and fortunately for me, New York City was on the roster! I haven't had the chance to attend the main summit, so getting a chance to attend it while it toured the 'City That Never Sleeps' that I call home was a fantastic opportunity for me to get a taste of this conference without having to fly out.

You all know I am *never* wordless on 'Wordless Wednesday' - but this recap is photo heavy - that counts right?

I am going to try my best to present the photos in as close to the order that panelists were presented to give you the best idea of how the summit was organized:

When One Grows We All Grow Sign at #WeAllGrowNYC
ABOVE: When I saw this on the blackboard, I knew it was going to be a great day! That's EXACTLY what it's all about, blogging is a form of entrepreneurship, and when one of us grows and succeeds in this space, we ALL grow!

Ana Flores Founder of We All Grow Summit speaks at #WeAllGrowNYC 2015

ABOVE: Ana Flores, Founder of the We All Grow Summit was our emcee and she kicked it off with a reminder to "Make Your Elevator Pitch Your Mantra". I can tell you many conferences stress this to bloggers, be able to sum up what you do, what you offer and what you focus on in a very brief sentence. Memorize it. Rehearse it. Run it by fellow blogger buddies until you have it DOWN PAT. She threw it to the first panelist, Emmelie De La Cruz of TheBrandingMuse.com

Emmelie De La Cruz of TheBrandingMuse.com speaks at We All Grow Summit speaks at #WeAllGrowNYC 2015
ABOVE: So you thought you would ignore the whole thing on the Elevator Pitch you say? Well the first speaker brought it up again, here is a great boiler plate on what a solid 'Elevator Pitch' should contain:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - What do you do?
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - What are your skills?
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Who Benefits?
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - What is the Outcome?
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - What Do You Want?

ABOVE: "Telling Your Story Informs You. Blog Like a Brand + Business" - Speaker Emmelie De La Cruz of TheBrandingMuse.com got down to the nitty gritty of what to do and HOW to do it, she showed us examples of bloggers who are slaying their niche - how and why.

Enid Hwang, Pinterest Community Manager at We All Grow Summit speaks at #WeAllGrowNYC 2015

ABOVE: Enid Hwang, Pinterest Community Manager gave us an amazing run through on the ins and outs of Pinterest. Let's just say there were TONS of quotes by Enid that gave us all great insight on how to use Pinterest to drive traffic and expand our reach. Pinterest is a visual bookmarking tool that helps people discover and save creative ideas. One of my favorite 'quotables' from Enid was this:

"People Follow Interests and Personal Tastes, NOT Social Connections, we are fundamentally NOT a Social Networking Service" ~Enid Hwang, Pinterest Community Manager

If this panel weren't kick ass enough, the conference worked with Pinterest to offer some of the attendees a chance to have a one-on-one session at Pinterest HQ in NYC! How awesome is that? Now is that a conference that is fully invested in our learning and advancing. I plan to post separately about my one-on-one session in a future post.

After this session there was a Networking Break sponsored by Vive Mejor:

"To Tell A Story, You Need To Listen - Engage Through Listening"

Lisa Price, Founder, Carols Daughter panelist at #WeAllGrowNYC 2015

ABOVE: Lisa Price, Founder of Carols Daughter was open, honest and real about her experiences launching her brand and the road to the eventual sale of that brand, which she still plays a major role in. She shared about her insecurities with her weight and fears of appearing on Home Shopping she said "I was afraid that people wouldn't buy anything because I didn't look right". It bothered her, and she did something about it, literally, dropping 100 pounds and gaining control of her health, learning the social media ropes, but it was the quote that inspires HER, that I can't help but share:

"Tell Your Story The Way You Actually Want It To Work Out" ~Soledad O'Brien's Advice to Lisa Price

Let your peers inspire you my friends!

Isaac Oppenheimer Co-Founder NIGHT at #WeAllGrowNYC 2015

ABOVE: Around 3pm we took a Networking Break and one of the event sponsors NIGHT shared a bit about their pillow with us. Night Pillows use a special technology to give you better skin and hair while you sleep. On the way in I got to check out their 'zen' set up - many bloggers took cool instagram photos here:

Let's just say you will see more about this pillow again, later on in this post, and it may get a special post of it's own, so stay tuned!

RAFFLES: There were great raffles including conference ticket and hotel stay for the main summit, and one winner won a NIGHT pillow, guess who won the pillow? If you guessed Ascending Butterfly you are RIGHT! I am LOVING this pillow. This is coming from a lifelong insomniac. You have no idea how high a praise this really is. My love runs deep. I actually regretted NOT bringing this pillow along on my recent Food and Wine Bloggers Press Trip to BrandyWine Valley (which I will share all about very soon I promise!)

MY TAKE:

I LOVED this conference. And when you have been in publishing in some form for as long as I have, that is saying A LOT. Many conferences tend to be a bit too 'basic' for 'advanced' bloggers - I have a ton of notes from this one day tour so I can only imagine how much I would learn from the full conference experience for We All Grow!

I think setting up One-on-One sessions with Pinterest was an amazing thing to do and I am so glad I was able to avail myself of such an amazing opportunity. I learned I really was approaching it wrong and using it all wrong, more on this to come.

As you all know I try to make at least one conference a year. I do with conferences what I do with my leisure travel. I try to hit a different one each time. We All Grow is now one I want to put on my roster, I felt like I really got a chance to learn and grow, and very few conferences 'challenge' me, so when I find one that does, it's refreshing and exhilarating!

Readers Sound Off: Have you attended We All Grow Summit? What is your favorite Blogging Conference and Why?

Nicole Miller Addison Crossbody Handbag Giveaway!

Nicole Miller Logo

Monthly Featured Handbag In The Spotlight Is Back!

Butterflies my apologies, this is one of our longest standing regular Features (monthly since 2009) and because of my back-to-back hospitalizations the feature took a hiatus during the summer this year and this is the longest time that has ever elapsed without us featuring a new Handbag of the Month. I am super excited to be bringing this feature back! A HUGE Thank You to Nicole Miller, the bags sent to me for review arrived quite awhile ago, but with me being in the hospital I had to push back the Feature, so I thank them AND YOU so much for your respective patience.

I can tell you that it is going to be so worth the wait! Nicole Miller's team totally surprised me, when they sent me not one, but 5 bags! And because I made you guys wait so long, I'm giving you the Featured Bag which you will see after the review bags. Here is what I received:

Nicole Miller Lexi Techno Metal Clutch:

Top Left: Lexi Techno Metal Clutch in Black closed, Top Right: Nicole Miller Lexi Techno Metal Clutch in Black Open to show organizational components and strap. Above: Nicole Miller Lexi Techno Metal Clutch in Teal - Don't you just love the rouching detail?

As a public transportation commuter here in New York City, I have always featured crossbody handbags and owned no clutches. I normally carry so much with me that clutches have never been truly practical for my lifestyle. But now as a blogger with many event invites and many of them cocktail evening events, I had been needing a clutch and was in the market for one when the amazing package arrived from Nicole Miller. The Lexi Techno Metal Clutches are fantastic, they have the chain strap which allows me to have my hands free when I need to, and they have a sophisticated styling that allows them to be paired with almost any evening outfit in your closet. A good clutch really is an Accessories Wardrobe Staple. Oddly enough my Grandmother and Mom both have an assortment of great clutches, and it's one thing I didn't have in my wardrobe until now. And I think Nicole Miller may have created a Monster, because now I find myself seriously looking at clutches!

The Nicole Miller Lexi Techno Metal Clutch is a Structured techno metal box clutch with rouching detail and an 18” drop down chain shoulder strap, distressed nickel hardware finish and a Clasp Closure.

Nicole Miller Lexi Sting Ray Clutch

Lexi Stingray Clutch in Black and bronze, Top: Inner Organizational Lining

Black Stingray with Black Lamb Leather, It is a structured Box Clutch with Optional Drop Down Jewelry Shoulder Strap, this super snazzy clutch is all blinged out for evening! Its the one you wear when you are making a statement with not only your Fashion Tastes but your Fashion Accessories as well. If any clutch can call itself A Statement Clutch, Nicole Millers Lexi Sting Ray Clutch certainly can.

And if you think its pretty in Black, check her out in Bronze!

Isn't  she a total chic showoff? ;)

The girl with no clutches, now has 4, and not just any four, four amazing wardrobe boosters in the Nicole Miller Lexi! Both the Lexi Techno Metal Clutch and the Lexi Stingray have received numerous compliments when Ive worn them out on the town. Im partial to the Techno Metal Clutch in the Teal, and while I love the Stingray in both colors, the Bronze really does stand out a bit more. And since my wardrobe does have a lot of dark colors, having the clutch in black is almost an essential.

And now, its time for YOU, I am giving you the bag that when Nicole Miller was asked about what are the hottest accessories shoes and bags of the season, she answered My bicycle chain bags. I love them and they look really new.

I have to admit I highly agree, there is something so punk and unexpected about the Addison Mini Crossbody bicycle chain handbag, it's that detail on the mixed strap, part bike chain, part leather, and it an almost silver and bronze color to the bag, its tough meets city chic in a way that totally works, it literally just ups the cool factor of your outfit 100%

She asked us to share the Addison Bag with our readers which leaves me with the clutch bags. The ones way out of my comfort zone. But I have been rocking them at events lately and getting tons of compliments about them! This has totally re-shaped my attitude on the clutch style! I think 2013 will be me with more clutch style bags! (even if I have to carry a little less to pull it off!)

Wordless Wednesday: City Park in New Orleans +

We are continuing with our Niche Mommy 2012 Blogging Conference in New Orleans Wordless Wednesday Series, I am going to take you through the conference and the City in pictures!

It started with the Airport, followed by some shots of The Roosevelt Hotel, these that I'm sneaking in today are a little out of sequence, these probably should have been posted technically before the Roosevelt, because I took a quick visit through City Park in New Orleans right from the airport before checking in to the hotel. I will also be adding all pictures to our special conference pinterest board, you may want to go there to see full size shots!

After a delayed flight (do Jet Blue Flights ever depart on time?), with no in flight entertainment (there was a short in the wire under my seat and the seat next to me), thank God for iPods, and then running straight to the Welcome Cocktail Reception, it was so great to be greeted by The Roosevelt's turn down service with Robe and Chocolates on the pillow!

So now you've seen the airport, City Park, The Roosevelt, and The 'Britax Angels', next week it's on to the conference's official day one!

How is first day of school week coming along for everyone? As for me, I promise I wasn't missing in action this week, I had a bout of Food Poisoning! Not quite the best timing with it being the advent of Fashion Week here in New York City!

Happy Wordless Wednesday Butterflies!

@Sakroots Spring 2013 Collection Preview! #fashion #handbags #accessories

This week I had the pleasure of attending Sakroots Spring 2013 Media Preview Event & California Fiesta, and was so inspired I created a fun photo collage of my pictures! The preview was alight with great spring colors, new shoes (and some previously launched ones that were re-designed taking consumer feedback into account, think of them as shoes 2.0, newly re-designed for YOUR comfort!), and of course fabulous handbags!

I was happy to see tons of butterflies, on the bags, and the wallets. The wallets actually have the butterflies embroidered on for a fun 3 dimensional feel. I also loved the butterfly keychains which would also double for phenomenal zipper pulls for your handbags!

As The Sak is headquartered in my favorite state California, they opted to host a 'California Fiesta' complete with quesadillas, chips n dips and the best guacamole ever! (Love my avocados!).

The nature inspired prints and fun colors have me looking forward to Spring 2013 already, my two standout prints so far were the Aqua Flower Power (of course because of the butterflies) and the Raspberry Dreamland print which is a funky fun Unicorn print with a tattoo type vibe. (For those of you coming off BlogHer12, think of it where the Sparklecorn party meets Ed Hardy!)

Check out my Photo Collage from the Media Preview (remember you can press on it to make it bigger and then hit the back arrow to come back here! I'll also post it to our pinterest account, so you can get a better look there too!):

My favorite 'Empty your Fridge' Avocado Summer Salad Recipe

I have had a life long obsession with Avocados, we called them 'aguacates' growing up and my grandmother (abuela) and great-grandmother paired them with many of the traditional Puerto Rican dishes that I grew up on and love. For us the traditional 'arroz con pollo' (chicken and rice) became anything but ordinary when paired with Black Beans and Avocados.

I am not as good as my Abuela and my mom are with picking ripe Avocados ready for that day, but thankfully my local grocer is and he always tells me which ones are ready!

Like me, my mom has a strong love of travel and adventure, and we'd spend our summer days anywhere but home, which meant when we got back home, tired from a day in the sun, no one wanted to cook, but eating out every single day of summer would have been budget breaking. One of my mom's favorite go to staples was a 'huge' summer salad, instead of as a side dish, it was so chock full of stuff that it became a main meal. Making it not only cost effective, (because she used what was in season), but also a much healthier meal than fast/processed foods. And we didn't have to have the hot oven or stove on during those scorching summer days.

To this day I still live on salads during the summer, and much like my mom's favorite salad idea, I've adapted it to make it an 'Empty Your Fridge' Avocado Summer Salad. There are certain staples I always buy from shopping trip to shopping trip so those have become staples in the salad that never change, but the protein changes, from chicken, to pork to shrimp depending on what's left over and already in my fridge.

---------------------Print + Clip Me ---------------------

Empty Your Fridge Salad:

Ingredients:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 Ripe Avocado diced
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 Garden Tomato diced
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 head of Romaine Lettuce, clean, dry and shredded
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 box of organic mixed greens, clean, dry and shredded
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1/4 of a canister of walnuts (for a more asian flair add cashews and sesame seeds, especially if the protein is shrimp or chicken)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 2 cups of whatever proteins you have left over in your fridge, feel free to mix if you don't have a lot of any one particular thing, it could be chicken, pork, shrimp, tofu, etc.
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Per your own taste (feel free to omit anything you do not like or are allergic to): diced onions, diced green peppers, diced/sliced or shaved carrots, finely chopped scallions, some garlic, diced celery, capers, diced olives
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - I always add a bit of cheese depending on what I have in the fridge also!

Directions:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and toss evenly to mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Serve in individual bowls with dressing on the side. And if you don't have dressing on hand you can always mix your own with oil and vinegar or some balsamic!

*This could easily feed 2-4, just double up on the tomato if you are feeding more than two with this!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

On my very first visit to Cancun Mexico, I visited a restaurant close to my hotel and they told me that Mexico alone has hundreds of varieties of Avocados, and I have vowed that I will try them ALL! I had Avocados with breakfast, lunch and dinner that trip and every subsequent visit since!

Fuerte and Hass varieties are probably the most common of the Mexican Avocados, there is also the Gwen (most often confused for Hass), Pinkerton, Reed and Zutano.

Healthy Recipe Substitution Tips:

Last summer I focused on some healthy recipe substitutions with Yogurt, here are some recipe substitution tips with Avocados:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Replace fatty dips with guacamole and served with BAKED Tortilla Chips for a healthy and equally tasty snack.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Make your smoothies creamier by adding Avocado

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ -  Top your soups and stews with Diced Avocado in place of sour cream

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Spread 2 Tbsp of mashed Avocado on your wheat toast instead of butter

Find other fun recipes on the Avocados from Mexico site in both Spanish and English! Get social with @guacgrl on twitter! And for my pinterest peeps, you can follow them on pinterest at: http://pinterest.com/Mexicanavocados/

To Pin or Not To Pin? That is the question!

Calling all 'pinners'

I'm usually a Social Media early adopter, but for some reason I haven't yet checked out Pinterest. I don't know why, it seems like a good fit for me, as I love 'vision boards'. Vision boards are great tools to help make your dreams manifest into your reality, and I have often been told that Pinterest is like an online vision board. A visual 'bookmarks'/'favorites' that you can share with friends. (and you know I LOVE to share!)

A little something for everyone I've been told, Foodies can pin recipes, Fashionistas can pin dream outfits, but yet somehow I haven't felt this sense of urgency to take a peek.

Since my butterflies are definitely social media savvy, I thought I'd put the question to YOU: So butterflies, 'To Pin or Not To Pin' that is the question!

If you are a blogger, I'd love for you to weigh in on the question also! Do you find the traffic benefits are worth it? Do you allow people to 'pin' your blog photos, why or why not?

If you think I should check it out, include an invite with your recommendation! =)

So Butterfly, What's Your Pinterest?
