#ad: Is furthering your Education part of your 2014 Long Term Goals? Find out how to score a 10K Scholarship to do just that! #spon

#ad: This is a Sponsored Post on behalf of Scholarships 4 Moms

I for one have been in 2014 planning mode for awhile now. Both long and short term goals are swirling around my head. From personal to professional there are a myriad of goals I have set for myself and a new year is the ideal time to begin working on them.

I worked three part time jobs and had landed a few merit scholarships to cover my College Tuition. It wasn't easy, but I know the sacrifices I made to pursue to my degree were very much worth it. Post College was a whirlwind of work and I shelved my Master's Degree dream because I was on a career path that kept me very busy.

I want to go back. I want to pursue a Master's, and I'm sure I'm not alone. I'm probably busier now then I was right after College, but despite having way more on my plate, I am not going to let anything, including this lousy economy stand in my way. I have never let any obstacle stand in the way of something I really want for myself.

5 Tips for any Adult Considering Returning to College:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Choose a Degree that is PROFITABLE - Adults have less time to experiment and knowing which Degree is 'profitable' in the long run is going to be half the battle won!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - STEM initiatives (acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are not just for younger students! Educations focusing on the Technical and Scientific Fields are actually a bit easier to find Scholarships for. I am NOT saying it will be easy to land them, but there is a bigger need especially for women in these fields and there are scholarships out there geared to students who wish to pursue a scientific or technical career!

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Exhaust all options as 2013 acceptance rates showed heightened School Selectivity. It's even harder for Adult returning students to compete for those Golden Acceptance Letters, you need to be creative and exhaust as many options as possible.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Consider Distance Learning. Who said the only way to get a Degree is to attend an actual campus? Your dining room table can be your study hall, with a Distance Learning Degree, College comes to YOU on your schedule whenever, wherever.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Start with what you already know - Sit with a counselor or academic advisor to find out how your real world experience may translate into credits toward your degree. Your experience and maturity is actually an ADVANTAGE not a dis-advantage!

$10,000 Scholarship 4 Moms Sweepstakes:

Exhausting every possible option for funding is just plain smart! How about the chance to win $10K to return to school?

WIN IT:

(I always say before any entering any competition, check out the Official Rules first!)

MY TAKE:

As a Career and Life Coach I can tell you that a Degree is a must! Hiring Managers in this economy can be way more selective, and if you don't have a degree (as a former recruiter) I can tell you a hiring manager is going to lean toward the candidate who has that Degree!

HERSHEY’S® BOO BLVD. - Throwing the Perfect Halloween Bash! + Treats #Giveaway

Long time readers know that Halloween is my favorite holiday, and horror movies have always been my favorite movie genre! The first movie I got to see sans parents was a horror movie. I love to look back on pictures of me in Halloween Costumes starting from when I was little, they are usually such a great indicator of what was popular at the time.

After a certain age my family decided to stop letting us 'trick or treat' and our family and extended family would get together and throw a Halloween Party mostly at home, or sometimes at a rented space depending on how many people were joining in on the fun that year. I still think House Parties are more fun and certainly a whole lot safer.

We still hold the same traditions now, instead of allowing the kids to go door-to-door our families still get together and hold a big family party mostly geared toward the little kids, and then we'll take the older kids to the movies the next day. We can't resist a costume party, and even the adults still like to dress up!

And we definitely like to exchange Halloween cards, Check out this card display below, I used it to get ideas:

I love creative cards any season, but they are especially fun during Halloween. Isn't that FrankenVampire on the top left totally sweet? I love how even the most innocent things can become creepy during Halloween, take the cat for example:

OK in all fairness Black cats have always been associated with Witches and Halloween! (Little known Ascending Butterfly trivia, I once owned a Black Cat, which I named Ebony - I know Creative right? LOL Someday when I tackle Mount Closet I'll dig out pictures of me with that cat and post them as a Wordless Wednesday. Perhaps I should post a picture of my closet, it's certainly the scariest thing I've ever seen!)

And of course what is Halloween without a Jack-O-Lantern?

Whose idea was it to creepify pumpkins anway?

Getting everything organized for the bash is half the battle won, it's such a shame it all only comes out once a year!

Something about these Ghosts say 'cute' not scary!

I've always loved Hello Kitty and don't ever remember seeing a 'Halloween Kitty' version of HK especially on a mug!

These would be perfect to fill up with treats as a fun surprise for any visits with teachers or your doctors office reception staff!

Above: Check out these fun treat cups already pre-assembled with a mock licorice stick straw!

Above: When I saw this, I had to have it! An Owl Pumpkin! Brilliant! (And a bit of Italian thrown in for fun, I would like to visit Italy! so I should start practicing! Hmm, I wonder how you say BOO in Italian?)

Above: Did anyone else want to wait it out with Linus for a 'Great Pumpkin' sighting? I did!

Above: Did the peanuts gang open my scary closet? Something about Lucy is different? ;)

Above: That one is addressed to YOU! Happy Halloween Butterflies! Feeling Festive yet?

All month long HERSHEY’S is hosting HERSHEY'S BOO BLVD where you can check for new blogs (this post by yours truly will be featured there!) , crafts, recipes and videos through October 31st! In fact each of the blogs by the bloggers featured are hosting giveaways too, so be sure to visit them all and double your luck!

I'm not even sure how they knew because no one asked us, but they sent me my favorite treat of all, REESE'S Peanut Butter Cups. It's a bit eerie that they somehow knew that one is my favorite, I'm almost sure I've never posted that anywhere! (See you got 2 unknown facts about me in one post, I feel so exposed!)

These were probably devoured by 'team butterfly' in seconds!

Snack Size does mean it's OK to have 2 or maybe 4 right?

As you know, here at Ascending Butterfly Halloween is always all treats and absolutely NO tricks! I had to make sure some extra goodies were involved in this deal for my butterflies, and HERSHEY'S not only stepped up to the plate with hosting a giveaway, they are offering treats to 20, yes that's right TWENTY Ascending Butterfly Followers! SUH WEET!

I like keeping it simple, so the first entry in rafflecopter is super simple, and how much extra credit you want to do beyond that is always up to you!

And don't forget our monthly 'Featured Handbag in the Spotlight' is back with a Nicole Miller Designer Handbag Giveaway ($295), it ends on 10/31 so be sure to get in your entry if you haven't done so already!

WIN IT!

New App Alert - iTriage Healthcare App!

What many of you might not know is that I was pre-med. I wanted to be 'Dr. Butterfly' :)

While life sort of got in the way of my MD dreams, my fascination with medicine and science has remained un-wavering all these years. I still love reading on advances in medicine and science, and where those advances, meet technology? EVEN BETTER! While we normally bring you a Mid-Month Moment of Health Feature that breaks away from our 'Soul Health' and focuses on our Physical Well Being, I couldn't hold off until the middle of the month to bring you this 'moment of health' feature!

iTriage

iTriage is the name of a medical reference application available for iPhone, iPod Touch, Android and Palm. (No worries my berry lovers, it's coming to Blackberry Soon!). The application lets you search and browse hundreds of symptoms, diseases, and procedures and provides useful descriptions of the conditions, treatments, and medical tests, the app also offers support links to your insurer’s advice line. I see it as a sort of comforting hybrid between a diagnostic physician, nurse and mom right in your pocket!

In addition, iTriage can use the iPhone’s GPS to help you find nearby pharmacies, hospitals, and other treatment centers. In some states it gives ER wait times so you can choose which one to go to. As someone who has battled with Asthma for years, I am completely shocked an App can actually give you ER wait times! I'd say the app is worth it, just for that feature alone!

Healthcare in Your Hand

The iTriage App is the brainchild of two emergency room physicians. After seeing a growing need for patients to have more actionable healthcare information in their hands, Drs. Peter Hudson and Wayne Guerra introduced iTriage to give healthcare consumers crucial information in acute care settings including:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Information on more than 300 symptoms, 1000 diseases and 350 medical procedure

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - A nationwide directory of hospitals, urgent cares, retail clinics, pharmacies and physicians

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Turn-by-turn facility directions from GPS, IP address or zip code locations

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Nurse advice lines

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Detailed quality reports from HealthGrades on hospitals and physicians

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Help negotiating medical bills through an iTriage partnership with one of the most respected claims adjudication organizations

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Emergency Room Wait Times for hospitals in select parts of the country

I can't imagine a more useful app, both mom and dad should have this one, and if you have a nanny or babysitter, make sure that person has this app too!
