I recently attended a very special Lucky Magazine luncheon with Jane Iredale (which I recapped originally HERE), where she shared her personal as well as professional influences and gave us no holds barred access and carte blanche to ask her anything! How many times does that chance arise? I left feeling totally inspired. I left the luncheon even more determined than ever to pursue my passions. Will there be people who tell you are crazy for following your bliss? Maybe. Should you let that stop you? NEVER!
Jane turned her trials into triumphs, and let her obstacles along the way become lessons learned on how to hone her drive and her ambitions and I absolutely love that! For me, the chance to know the actual 'heart' behind the brand makes using the products that much more meaningful for me.
In 2010 I had my first encounter with the brand at the New York Makeup Show. After a ton of saying No that day because of time constraints, I stopped and let one of the artists make me over. When tons of people stopped to watch and then wanted to be made over too, I knew he was doing a great job, but he didn't let me see until my face was completely done, and when I was able to finally look at the finished job, I was blown away, I felt totally transformed. And not necessarily just the makeup, I felt personally transformed, and after that looked at myself in a whole new light.
It's super easy to get so busy that you neglect yourself. And that doesn't just apply to moms, every single women out there makes daily sacrifices because simply put we all know there isn't enough time in a day to make it all happen. Slowly, my makeup and hair had become the areas I would scrimp on to save time. I'd do my signature red lip that I blend myself, but skip the foundation, mascara, eye shadow and put my hair into a ponytail most days.
Besides having events to attend, I reached a point where I wanted a different look, after a year that has been extremely challenging to say the least, I needed a 'life lift'. And I've started giving myself one. Taking more time on and for myself.
Small changes here and there start to add up. And start to change your outlook. A bit of primping and pampering go beyond 'vanity' ladies, it reminds you exactly of what you deserve in life. And when you take that time, it certainly changes the perception of others and they treat you differently. But you have to treat yourself differently first!
As for me, my early years in graphic design and marketing has also given me an eye that tends scrutinize the packaging of what I buy. I love unique packaging! So when I opened up my gift bag from the Jane Iredale Luncheon, and opened the Triple Pearl Powder Finishing Powder, I immediately noticed the packaging, not just the outer, which was pretty too, but the actual compact inside, which is adorned with a real shell! And the applicator brush is super soft too. It honestly just looks and feels like a treat. Each shell is unique because that is how nature makes them. And I feel it's just such a genius idea and design. Everyone of us, like the shells is unique. Beautifully created and packaged by nature.
