Terox Footwear is a brand on a mission with a dream of not only building great footwear, but to also be part of restoring American Jobs and keeping our planet clean!

Terox Holiday Infographic

Powerful Right? With un-employment rates still in double digits in many states in the US, restoring American Jobs is an important mission, one I whole-heartedly support. Imagine that with every single step you take you can also help to support that mission, and you can do so in a variety of cool colors too!

ABOUT:

Terox offers a Z Strap, Flip Flop, and Slide style shoe, all with an anatomical design made from a lightweight, elastic, resilient polymer compound and they are proudly manufactured in Georgia! The American Podiatric Medical Association has listed Terox flip flops on their very shortlist of acceptable Flip Flops, and as you know the Association is super careful about their recommendations when it comes to footwear!

MY TAKE:

I wanted the Z Strap because it has a butterfly on the sole, but somehow I received the Flip Flop instead. I normally don't feature flip flops here because I don't really like them, the toe thong usually ends up hurting my toes after prolonged wear, and while they are OK on the beach, I don't like that squishy 'flip-flop' sound when I'm walking with them indoors. But Terox has created a convert, these have so far been the exception to my absolutely no flip flops rule, after a full month of wear (mostly as house slippers because it's super cold in the NorthEast right now), my toes do not hurt after prolonged wear, and they sort of feel like they are bouncing you back with every step. This time, my only real complaint about them being flip flops is that if it's cold in the house I can't wear socks with them. (And please don't comment here telling me to try flip flop socks, that is NOT happening! :)

Terox Flip Flop
Terox Footwear, this Flip Flop comes in super fun colors!

WIN IT:

We have hosted Canada Friendly giveaways before on Ascending Butterfly, but this is our FIRST ever Global Giveaway! You read that correctly, this giveaway is GLOBAL. Wherever you are, you are welcome to enter, and Terox makes footwear for both Men and Women! So make that special someone happy and slip some Terox Footwear in their holiday stocking this year! 5 Lucky Butterflies will win a pair in their choice of size and color based on availability. (Remember, some colors may or may not be in stock at the time of the drawing, so our sponsor will have the final say on color!)

Gratitude, Re-Discovery, and Getting Gorgeous 2011 New York City!

As you know Sunday is usually dedicated to my 'Sunday Moment of Gratitude' post, but trust me this ties in! My birthday is April 4th, and this weekend has been very much all about me, in the best way possible.

I've been trying despite all the stresses lately to devote a little more time to myself and my own needs. And this weekend I attended an event that dove tailed perfectly with my current theme of taking more time for myself, and discovering who I am under the layers of 'title', 'roles' and 'responsibilities'.

I greatly remember 'younger' me, she was a lot more fun. She spent more time on her face and hair, she had a thing for great shoes and handbags. Well this birthday I decided to 're-discover young me' again. And cast aside the thoughts of guilt that come when you take time away from one area to give it to another. This weekend I took some much needed me time, and met some great brands in the process.

This is my second Getting Gorgeous Event. The first, was last year at BlogHer 2010 in New York City. This year's event started with me checking in my coat, getting a special wristband (for my goodie bag on the way out) and being handed a Mimosa! Simply Orange Juice provided attendees with a fantastic afternoon Mimosa! I couldn't actually remember the last time I had one. (Check number one for rediscovering fun Tracy).

I had a chance to circulate in the place that is somehow slowly but surely becoming my home away from home, The Metropolitan Pavilion! (Many of my Fashion Week Photos were taken here!)  I had the chance to meet some great brands and do tons of things I normally don't do like eat Hummus (my family is going to gasp here, I'm not the biggest garbonzo bean lover and usually shy away from anything which contains it), somehow BJ's got me to try a Guacamole and Hummus Hybrid Dip, and I discovered it's delicious! (Being Adventurous, Check number 2 for rediscovering fun Tracy).

Midway in, I passed a tempting tower of cupcakes provided by Georgetown Cupcakes and decided to sit a spell and try one out. (Cupcakes before dinner, I'm smelling a check 3 here!)

Another highlight was meeting the Tide reps who handed me a Tide 2 Go mini sample and me breaking out laughing, I reached into my handbag and pulled out my full size Tide 2 Go which I never leave home without. I compared it to an American Express, which made them laugh so hard I couldn't help but laugh too! It's like they had me in mind when they invented it. Even when I change handbags, my Tide 2 Go always come with me. I can't tell you how many outfits that thing has saved. How many times have you gone out and had someone spill a drink on you, or a waiter/waitress accidentally put the plate too close to you and get food on your shirt. (and why is it usually your favorite white shirt?) (I’d say a check 4 here for laughter!)

Another table that was memorable for me was Sarah Potempa because she actually made us work for our goodie bag! She did a celeb hair trivia game that was super fun! When I light the candle I won I am sure I am going to remember her!

As you can see from the photo above, I also had the chance to get my picture taken with a life size standee of Brooke Elliott who plays lead character Jane Bingum on the Lifetime TV Series Drop Dead Diva! I love that show! I wish they would have also had a Standee of Margaret Cho who portrays Jane’s fiery Assistant, Teri Lee, I would have definitely posed for that picture as well! I have this thing for taking photos with mascots or standees! (Drop Dead Diva Moment, definitely a check Five!)

Another fun time was had meeting the reps from Sandals! ‘Fun Tracy’ (the one I’m trying to reconnect with!) usually visits a warm, sunny beach vacation each winter. Responsible Tracy has not had her annual beach vacation in 2 years so speaking with the Sandals Reps was a bit bittersweet, as now I’m having visions of sun, sand and fun floating in my head! I’ll be dreaming of Turks and Caicos this birthday weekend!

There were tons of fabulous brands in attendance including: Tide, Hanes, Simply Orange Juice, Dream Water, Goody Hair, Miraclebody, Shopafrolic, BJs Wholesale, Lifetime Moms, Weight Watchers, Hair Room Service, Amy Tara Koch, Sandals Resorts, Georgetown Cupcakes, Belli and great brands in the gift bags including: Affresh, Nyx Cosmetics, Smashbox (great friends of Ascending Butterfly, we love all things Smashbox), Sue Devitt, Restaurant.com, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Studio Jewel (Lisa Lehmann Designs included a pair of totally fab earrings), Lichi Supplements, Soft Lips, Secret Sleeves, Nick Chavez (his fantastic wet/dry conditioning spray was included in the gift bags), and while I was not able to get my hair done by Hair Room Service (which I would have loved since my big day is coming up!), they did provide great hair samples as well!).

The title sponsor of the event was Degree Women, and I’d like to thank them in addition to the other sponsors and exhibitors for supporting the efforts of Getting Gorgeous, a woman owned events business that does fantastic work connecting bloggers and brands! Degree provided samples of the NEW Degree Women Deodorant with motionSENSE, which I am looking forward to trying out!

I had a fantastic time, and it was a great way to spend my pre-birthday! I like to do goal setting on my birthday instead of New Year’s Eve, and the time I spent at Getting Gorgeous, is a perfect reminder that this year one the biggest goals I plan to set for myself is better work/life balance and increasing the time I spend on myself.

As for me, this ‘drop dead diva’ plans to make everday a perfect excuse for ‘getting gorgeous’, care to Join me?

Not So Wordless Wednesday! Summer Sandals!

Ascending Butterfly Summer Sandals Review brought to you by:

I am so over Winter! While the forecast is speaking of rain this weekend and more cold weather (is it just me or did that GroundHog lie?), I just want summer already. So in keeping with my 'mind over matter' mentality, I am just going to forecast summer in my mind and in my wardrobe....well, they do say if you build it they will come. So if I start building my summer wardrobe, summer will come right?
My feet make shoe shopping a hassle, I sometimes take different sizes with different brands, my feet tend to lean toward wide width and I have very little built in arch support (i.e. 'flat feet'), and very high insteps, so I take the tried and true advice of shopping in the late afternoon for my shoes. When I actually visit a brick and mortar retail location, that advice usually helps. But like most people, time has become an issue and I do most of my shopping even for shoes, online. This requires online stores with a good return policy, free shipping preferred, and I love shopping with online shoe retailers that include user reviews. Let's face it, if 30 reviews tell you to size up, you generally need to size up. And knowing that before you order truly helps save time and energy!
I have been looking into summer trends to start getting my wardrobe ready. I tend to follow trends in accessories like shoes and bags because I know full well I'm not going through the expense of overhauling my entire clothing wardrobe. I'd prefer to just add a few trends with my accessories which is way more cost effective!
Softspots Women’s Tatianna Shoe

New York City summers are sweltering to say the least and finding a shoe that allows me to keep pace in this 'fast paced' walking city is never easy. I need the shoe to be totally comfortable, for my walk and commute during the week and then be as flexible for running errands on weekends. These are super comfortable (love the pillow top comfort footbed!), they run true to size and allow my feet to breathe in the heat. And I couldn't resist the color, they are not that annoying neon green, they are a perfect green color, great with pretty much anything, love them with my jeans!

Softspots Women’s Ventura in Sport Blue

Softspots Women’s Ventura in Sport Blue

These are such 'IT' Shoes, great bright color, wedge heel (that's not too high, with the perfect stability because of their width), and that amazing Pillowtop comfort footbed. I can stand on these for long blocks at at time and still feel comfortable, and these fit me perfectly even though I have a very high instep. I highly recommend, I have 'trouble/problem' feet and these fit well out the box with no break in required!

Both of these shoes are going to put a spring in my step this summer, hopefully we'll have shoeline back with a giveaway!

It wouldn't hurt to leave a comment letting them know you'd like to add one of these shoes to your summer wardrobe too!

Vote Needed!

I am a finalist in Mom Central Consulting's 'Grow Your Personal Brand' Grant Program. I would love your vote, but I would also love for you to read my entry. My essay is entitled 'Project Chrysalis'. A project, which many of you know has already begun. The essay questions I was asked to answer really made me think, about my 'brand' and most importantly about my goals both personally and professionally. I hope reading my entry brings you inspiration! This is a DAILY (every 24 hours), 1 click, no registration required vote request. You can vote by pressing the image below or HERE:

FTC Disclosure: I was not asked to write about Mom Central's Grant Program, nor does writing about it improve my chances. I feel the message they are sending by supporting bloggers efforts to grow their brand is an important and powerful one! I was provided with the shoes reviewed in this post, however the opinions expressed are solely my own, and no monetary compensation was received.

Ascending Butterfly Special Feature sponsored by:

Do your shoes love you? And better still, do you love your shoes? When it comes to shoes I'm super hard to please, picky and not very easily impressed. Although I think it's safe to say when a person is having a 'bad-shoe-day', not only do they become cranky, but in many cases down-right snarky!

I'm not an easy fit foot wise, my feet are flat with minimum help from what appears to be my non-existent arches coupled with a high instep. I hope that you CAN'T relate to my feet!

Even with the age old advice of trying shoes on in the late afternoon to ensure a more accurate fit when your feet are at their worst, I have often bought shoes that felt comfortable in the store, and then put them on a few days later only to find out much to my dismay they no longer fit!

For this reason, I don't often solicit footwear companies, and I definitely read other blogger reviews and customer ratings on shoes for those rare occasions I order online. I usually have to do brick & mortar and actually try my shoes on.

And I have also been known to stop and buy a new pair of shoes if the ones I am wearing begin to hurt. I just can't function if my feet hurt!

I also prefer flats to heels, I agree with many women that high heels were designed by men for men, and not once did someone put thought to our comfort! If any high heel companies out there wan't to prove me wrong, feel free to try me, I'm open to new experiences, but I'm a foot skeptic when it comes to those torture devices known as stilettos, spikes, (and I am sure there are a bunch of other synonyms I can insert here).

Slip into Summer is finally presenting you with it's first Sandal! We started with an athletic shoe and I figured with record high temperatures in New York City this week it was time we switched gears and tried out a sandal, oh the things I do for you! :-) (remind me to get a cute smiley graphic to insert, for future smiley needs!)

Being that I'm a New York City gal, Oka B sent me a review shoe they describe as 'a stunning design for sophisticated shoppers', her name, (why I'm glad you asked) is Lucy! Lucy is embellished with a Large Natural Wood Beaded Chysanthemum, Tres Sex & The City!

I'm not exactly the 'Carrie' Type personality, when she brought the big flower phase into popularity I didn't exactly jump on that band or is it 'flower' wagon. I love real flowers, but I don't like oversized flower pins stuck on my shirts, jackets, sweaters, or handbags, so not my style at all. So when I took Lucy out of the box, I was a bit perplexed by her. I thought hmmmm.....she's a frou frou gal isn't she?

I will say I love everything about Oka B. What's not to love about:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ – American Made Shoes and Sandals (in this economy we need jobs kept HERE!)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ – Two-year guarantee (A shoe with a guarantee, cool right?)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ – Durable one-piece construction (these shoes are definitely durable!)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ – Antimicrobial and waterproof for clean, fresh feet (OK, I know this is going to sound weird, but they arrived with a smell that is vaguely reminiscent of chocolate!)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ – Built-in massage beads based on principles of reflexology (it's kind of like a spa on your feet that comforts you each step of the way)
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ – Wipe clean - (And my public transportation commuters will empathize with just how valuable this feature really is, doesn't it seem like EVERYONE steps on your foot when you are wearing light colored shoes?)

While I do have high praise for Oka B there are some warnings about my personal experience with 'Lucy' I feel I need to share, she felt a bit 'narrow' on my foot, so if you are wide width, I would highly suggest sizing up with this particular pair. (you'll see why I say that later). I am not normally prone to advising anyone to size up if I didn't feel it was necessary. Those with a normally 'medium' or 'narrow' foot will find these comfortable. I am also not a lover of the 'thong' shoe. I always feel that pressure between the toe of the thong itself, and these were no different, I did feel the thong, ideally you shouldn't be so aware of them. And like some other reviews I've seen, Lucy is 'Slippery When Wet' (ok so I admit I'm a Bon Jovi fan and was secretly hoping I'd find a way to work one of his songs into my reviews, LOL). If you are wearing 'Lucy' pool or beach side, or just out of the shower, make sure your feet are totally dry, and while I know this is true of most footwear, this is especially true with 'Lucy', not to mention that in summer even with open shoes or sandals if your feet sweat, be careful walking in this shoe, they get very slippery. For now, me and Lucy are still feeling each other out.

Before you think uh-oh (or if you're a scooby doo fan RUH ROH!), the Oka B tale does have a very happy ending (hmmmm no massage parlor references intended here so please stop giggling).

Just because I am a blogger doesn't mean I don't like cool stuff just like everybody else, I happened to enter a fellow blogger giveaway for Oka B and WON! (Special thanks to Maricris @ Zensible Mama - definitely check out her blog, I love the way her personality shines through her posts, she makes me smile. Oh by the way, I was comment number 66, not sure why I felt that was significant enough to share, but there it is!). I was super stoked to find out I won the pair of my choice! And then a bit nervous since me and 'Lucy' did not quite have a love at first site thing going on.....

Lucy did serve her purpose though, when Maricris asked me to pick a pair of my choice, I poured over the site and decided to avoid a thong style, and went with a shoe named 'Gabby', when I pulled Gabby out of the box, I immediately knew she was more my style, she looks like leather croc but she's NOT, I'll have you know she is Vegan and incredibly eco friendly and super stylish. She has bamboo bead embellishments and all the great features I pointed out in the butterfly bullet points, ah those built in massage beads!

And it gets better, when I tried 'Gabby' on, it was then that I truly understood that Oka B shoes really do love you! and I don't get the difference, but Gabby is not slippery when wet like Lucy, and there is no need for wide width shoe gals to size up with this shoe. Gabby felt much more true to size, she was not as narrow and unlike Lucy was a hit comfort wise. Gabby will not require a long break in period.....Lucy however is another story. But I am incredibly grateful that I won 'Gabby' or I would have had the wrong idea about Oka B shoes altogether!

So the moral of this story, enter more blog giveaways, LOL I couldn't resist! Everyone has different feet, different posture and we all don't walk exactly the same either, some people over-pronate and we all have different foot requirements, so I can only speak to my particular experience, but I'm glad in this instance I had two shots at trying out different pairs. They are from the same company but they are as different as night and day. I even walk differently in both based on their fit.

The Skinny: I love Gabby, we can be besties, but Lucy, not so much!
