Happy Labor Day! + My #Fashion Picks from today's #LaborDaySales

Graphic Courtesy of funscrape!

Hard to resist that graphic since it had butterflies in it! I hope all my butterflies are having a fun Labor Day holiday weekend! I'm hoping for an Indian Summer this month as the weather this summer was super weird in New York City.

For all my butterflies thinking about today's Labor Day Sales I thought I'd share a few of my stand-out picks from today's sales:

Our friends at IGIGI are offering 30% on select styles, there is a link on their site which shows you which styles or you can just press HERE, use coupon code: LABORDAY13 at checkout!
Two of my dress picks included in the sale are:

IGIGI Milan Dress
IGIGI Milan Dress

I love this dress for the Fall days ahead, and she is wearing it like I would, great boots, fantastic Fall handbag, what's not to love? The regular price on this dress is $122.00 and you can nab it today for $112.99

IGIGI Ippolita Plus Size Dress in Papaya
IGIGI Ippolita Plus Size Dress in Papaya

As I'm trying to mix up my wardrobe and avoid all black again for another season, this Papaya color dress from IGIGI is scoring high points. It's a super versatile dress that can take you from work to evening by simply swapping out the accessories and touching up your makeup for evening. (Although you do need some black, so my black dress selection above still stands!)

IGIGI designs are made with the curvy/Plus-Sized Woman in mind, and so far I haven't tried a style from them that I didn't like!

Our friends at In Bloom by Jonquil are also having a great style, and it's the perfect time to pick up styles from the summer season that are going on sale as they transition to fall, some standouts that are on sale today include:

In Bloom by Jonquil Asian Butterfly Pleated Chemise
In Bloom by Jonquil Asian Butterfly Pleated Chemise

From $56, it's down to $37.52! And don't forget to add its matching robe:

In Bloom by Jonquil Asian Butterfly Wrap
In Bloom by Jonquil Asian Butterfly Wrap

I have this set as it combines two of my personal favorites, butterflies and Asian inspired Art! It's as feminine as it looks, but I can tell you from personal experience that In Bloom lingerie washes well and lasts a very long time! You just can't go wrong with any of their pieces! The robe is regularly priced at $58 and is on sale today for $38.86.  They are also offering $7 Flat Rate Shipping and Free Shipping on orders over $100, so if you hadn't tried them from our previous reviews (which means you've missed out on the exclusive discount codes just for Ascending Butterfly readers) you'd be remiss in not trying them today!

A third pick that is much more winter than summer, that you can nab for a steal today is:

In Bloom by Jonquil Emilia Velvet Robe

At a regular price of $198, picking this one up today for the Special Price of $118.00 should definitely be a no brainer! There is just something so 'Old Hollywood Glam' about this Black Velvet Robe!
Our friends at Wilson's don't need a holiday to share a great sale, they have a Clearance link on their site, year round and each time we work with them I'm always pointing that out! I could probably list amazing deals on their site today all day, so I'll stick to 2 and let you check out the rest!

Here are my top two sales picks on Wilson's today (picked because I love the item, not because of the percentage that it's marked off):

Wilsons Leather Plus Size Smooth Lamb Trench w/Thinsulate Lining

As you can tell Leather is making a comeback big time this fall! One of the things I have always loved about Wilson's Leather is that they carry a plus size range, they carry a very wide variety of sizing for both men and women and have something for everyone. A good trench is literally a wardrobe staple, and a leather trench is not just trendy but it's also timeless! I have a few of Wilson's Leather styles with the Thinsulate Linings and they keep you very warm! This style is regularly $449 and is on sale today for $179.95. The style above is from the everyday clearance rack at 60% off!

Wilsons Leather Plus Size Black Rivet Moto Lamb Jacket

This jacket is included in today's 70% OFF Labor Day Sale! It regularly retails for $550 and can be nabbed for a literal STEAL today at $165.00.  And again they have a full range of sizing, I'm featuring the Plus Sized Styles because I'm a curvy Latina! (And proud of it!)
And because I can't walk away from any Fashion post without talking handbags, I thought I'd check out some picks from our friends at Elliott Lucca:

Elliott Lucca Bali '89 FLap Satchel in Aztec White

If you absolutely refuse to do white after labor day, nab this one on sale and tuck it away for next summer! This bag retails for $168 regularly and is on sale today for $117.60 - SCORE! (They also have it in aztec black and aztec camel).

Elliott Lucca Cordoba Flap Tote in 'Teal Exotic'

This bag retails for $268, and it's on sale today for $201. For those of you with a very keen eye and good memory you will say this bag looks very familiar, and it does because we have featured it before, check out here for the original review. (You will see a picture of me carrying it as well!) I love this bag! It is roomy enough to get my tablet in there and camera and has great organizational compartments and a divider inside that is perfect if you bringing work home with you. They also have it in Black and White exotic and Sage Exotic, and you can't go wrong with any of the colors!

Happy Shopping Butterflies! Come back here and tell us what you nabbed on sale today! (Especially if it's one of the picks above!)

Weekly Moment of #Gratitude: The like @JLo song says "My Love Don't Cost a Thing" but my time sure does + Hello September Edition!

A Good Life is when you smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realize how blessed you are for what you have

I know you are probably thinking that's a weird title for our weekly moment of gratitude, but this week's post is more about lessons learned and putting my foot down, it's about schooling others on what I will and won't accept. This isn't my flowery list about happy moments during the week. So if you were hoping for a list of inspiring sunrises, awesome sunsets and hugs, today isn't it. (I give you the chance to run and come back tomorrow if you wish). I do hope that some of these will resonate with you.

Vampire
Beware of the Spiritual Vampires in your life!

(A) I have CHANGED - I don't know if it's my latest near death experience, the wisdom that comes with age and experience, or a fair mixture of both, but I have less patience and tolerance for 'Spiritual Vampires' lately. I am clearing my personal and professional life of those who want something from me for nothing. Those who just the act of speaking to leave me deflated, un-happy, sad and emotionally drained.

NO, NO!

Here are a list of NO's! for this week:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NO! - I am not interested in 'hopping on a call' and giving you free social media consulting. I don't want to tell you how to run your event, conference or summit, you are getting paid to do it, and if you want my time you will do the same. Why do people think calling it 'bending my ear' or 'picking my brain' entitles them to free social media consulting? There is a reason that since the moment I started blogging, I made it very hard to find my number on purpose. It helps weed out those seeking the benefits of Social Media Management that they don't want to pay for.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NO! - You go first, stop sending me requests to "Like" your page. When I notice someone has liked my page I go do the same automatically. So sending me a request to go like your page when you haven't yet done the same doesn't work for me. Again, I am back to quid pro quo. Stop asking me for things you yourself aren't willing to do.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NO! - Me offering to share event photos, does NOT give you carte blanche to actually go ahead and remove my watermark and pass my photo off as your own. That's stealing! And don't you just love how the ones that do it, get super enraged when it's done to them?

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NO! - I will not post your infographic or give your upcoming event 'pre-coverage'. Let's all drop the pretense, stop playing games and call a spade a spade, 'pre-coverage' is ADVERTISING. If you want to advertise, then you will PAY for it. Don't send me a snippy email telling me your infographic is of benefit to my readers. And please stop being dense and telling me I should pay YOU for the work you have put into the infographic and that you are doing ME the favor of not charging me for it. I DON'T WANT IT so don't send it to me and don't expect me to post your infographic, widget or rafflecopter contest for free. No one goes into blogging or any other form of digital media to become a 'free calendar of events' or a free contest notification site, that is certainly not my prime editorial content. Nor is the contest on a website that I am not personally hosting. This is a Lifestyle Blog, not a calendar of events blog, not a post about every contest on the planet blog or a place for you to come for free advertising.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NO! - Don't sign me up for your newsletter just because you have access to my email address! If I want your emails I will sign up for them on my own. I don't sign you up automatically for mine, so please do not send me yours. Handing you my card does not give you the right to add me to a newsletter.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - NO! - I am NOT required to give any event, fundraiser or Not-For-Profit free coverage or 'pre-coverage' either. I do have charities I am passionate about, but at the end of the day I can't pay my ISP (or any other bill for that matter) with anyone's good intentions, and that includes my own. Your employer doesn't pay you in gum, swag or good intentions and I prefer not to be paid for my time that way either.

So how is (A) something that goes into a gratitude post? Does it sound like a rant instead of a gratitude post? Perhaps to others it might be perceived that way, but as for me I am grateful for the new me that is emerging, a lot about me has changed throughout the past two years, and I am placing a lot more value on my time. And in this case, I do expect the Universe (and those trying to circle my orbit), to rise up to meet ME. There is a reason that the expression 'You can't get blood from a stone' still exists. It's sad that 'nice' is still perceived as stupid.

It still amazes me that a woman who knows exactly what she will and won't accept can still be insulted and offended by others for knowing not only her own mind, but setting the terms by which she will do business. I keep emphasizing that relationships are a two way street. Because when there is all take and no give, it's not a two way street anymore, it's a collision course and that gets both parties no where.

(B) You don't have a budget - I don't have the 'free' time, let's call it an impasse and walk away from the table with civility instead of hostility. I am grateful to have reached a point in my life where I don't have any trouble about being clear about where I stand personally or professionally.

(C) Hello September! - The first day of a new month really does always fill me with possibility, so I greet September knowing that I expect the best possible outcome in all of my endeavors, and invite you all to do the same. Approach this month like you did as a child going back to school sitting at a desk with a brand new clean notebook in front of you. Soak it all up like a sponge (and much like sponge, you can always squeeze out the excess water if it's weighing you down!)

 My Take:

There are brands and PR reps that do get it, and there are bloggers out there that actually ASK before 'borrowing' your photos, and for those people in my life who do show me the appreciation, gratitude and respect I deserve I am grateful for you all beyond measure!

Whether my list of NO!'s sit with you as a list of pet peeves, a meme, a rant or just insights into what drives THIS particular blogger nuts, I'm sure a few of them resonated with you, and I'm sure some of you have your own to add, so please feel free to let me know which resonated with you or which didn't and why, or add some of your own! Don't get me wrong, despite an inbox filled with PR fails and requests for my work and time for free, there is much that I am grateful for this week. Just remember one rule to relationships that never fails, don't expect of others what you are un-willing or un-able to offer or provide yourself. QUID PRO QUO my friends, QUID PRO QUO!

I am grateful for all the negative experiences and abrasive people who rubbed me the wrong way this year, it helped me to appreciate the ones that don't even more.

What are you GRATEFUL for this week Butterfly?  Is it a lesson learned, or a random act of kindness that you gave or received?

Check out the 2013 Ninohe City Fair in New York City through September 6th + Photo Highlights from the Opening Reception!

Sake + Urushi of Northern Japan, 2013 Ninohe City Fair in New York City

Back in my days working in Finance I got a chance to attend an event at the Asia Society and represent my boss, that one evening planted a seed of fascination with Asian culture and I have always loved Japanese Artwork and decor. The decor part stems from a beautiful Lacquer Asian Jewelry Box that belonged to my Grandmother. The detail and shine of that box is forever engraved in my memory.

Fast forward and my love of the culture has branched out to include the cuisine and the delicious Sake (Japanese Rice Wine)! One of the best parts of living in New York City is the cultural diversity and restaurants that cater to every taste and culture!

I recently received an invitation to learn more about the Ninohe City Fair in New York City by attending it's opening reception at the residence of Ambassador, Consul General of Japan in New York City. The event was organized by the Consulate General of Japan in New York, the Ninohe City Government and the Ninohe City Overseas Promotion Committee.

The event opened with a Sake Seminar where Nanbu-Bijin presented how Sake is made as well as the Reconstruction in Tohoku Japan, which was followed by a Urushi Seminar (Urushi, Japanese Lacquer Work comes from the substance of the Urushi tree). The next hour of the reception included the breaking of a ceremonial drum, a special Koto performance by Yumi Kurosawa and a signature welcome Nambubijin Cocktail created by Bartender Nana of Angel's Share in New York City and catering by SAKAMAI!

A series of tastings and exhibition sales are being held in New York City, here is the event rundown by date:

August 30 - Sake + Urushi of Northern Japan - At Latitude 40°N - at MTC Kitchen Manhattan Store - Lecture and guided tastings of Nanbu Bijin Sake hosted by Sake Samurais Chizu Niikwa & Timothy Sullivan of UrbanSake.com (cost $20)

September 4th - Lecture about Urushi made in Japan hosted by Takuo Matsuzawa, includes special Urushi Gift. (cost $20)

Venue -  New York Mutual Trading Company "MTC Kitchen Manhattan Store" - 711 Third Avenue (45th Street between 2nd & 3rd Avenue) - Tel: 212.661.3333

RSVP to both events by sending an email to matsuo@nymtc.com

I thought I'd also share some photo highlights from the opening reception:

Nanbu Bijin Tokubetsu Junmai Sake
No surprise that I honed in on this bottle of Sake with Butterflies right on the label! Nanbu Bijin Tokubetsu Junmai Sake!

She caught my eye at this colorful table display!

My Take:

I have spent this summer enjoying the best my City has to offer and the Ninohe City Reception ended with a special parting gift to take home, a lacquer ware sake cup by Makiko Suzuki that was engraved with the Japanese symbols that signify 'Bond' representing the Bond of Gratitude from Japan for our help in their re-building efforts and the bond of friendship between our cities. There is a great deal of precision, detail and love that goes into the creation of both Sake and Lacquer Ware, and I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to learn so much about both! I highly encourage you to attend one of the upcoming tasting seminars. For those of you here for Fashion Week, this would be a wonderful chance to un-wind from the hectic pace and schedule of Fashion Week events!

To all my Butterflies enjoying Japanese Sake this weekend, KUMPAI (CHEERS!)

Wordless Wednesday: Take me out to the ballgame - Check out my photos from the @Yankees Game and find out how to win a trip to #Florida! #SummerSequel

Kissimmee Summer Sequel

Alas butterflies, summer is winding down and Back-to-School is upon us again. (As a commuter in NYC I'm not looking forward to the teens back on the trains again, but that's a story for another day).

Are you ready for summer to end? I for one, am NOT ready to let go of summer!

As you may remember I co-hosted the #SummerSequel Twitter Party (I saw a ton of butterflies on the party, so thanks so much for your support butterflies), Kiss News Wire, the team that is helping to drum attention to Kissimee, Florida as a fun vacation destination for families, hit baseball stadiums in addition to the twitter party to help draw attention to their super fun 'Summer Sequel Sweepstakes'.

The Grand Prize winner will win a 5 day/4 night vacation for FOUR to Kissimmee, Florida that includes accomodations at Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista South, four 2-day theme park passes, dinner at Capone's Dinner & Show, an air boat ride at Ultimate Airboat Ride and a coach tour with Florida EcoSafaris at Forever Florida, and if that's not enough a Rental Car also! (Round trip economy air is also included for the winner and four guests!). There are two ways to enter, you can text KISS to 55155 or you can enter online at www.summersequel.com, and if you live in Atlanta the team will be at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia on August 31st. But hurry butterflies, the sweepstakes ends on September 9th!

The Kiss News Wire Team wanted to thank Ascending Butterfly for her help with the tweet up and twitter party and sent family Butterfly to a local baseball game. And no ordinary seats, but in the Delta Skybox at Yankee Stadium no less! Who could pass that up?

On August 20th, the home team pulled a double header and the Yankees swept a twin bill versus the Jays, it was a super exciting game to watch under the light of a beautiful full moon! (By the way Jayson Nix really did it big that night!)

Since this is Wordless Wednesday, I thought I'd share my pictures from the game:

Motivation Monday: Are you willing to give up being a caterpillar Edition + We have a winner!

Trina Paulus, Butterfly, Caterpillar, Inspiration, Motivation, Empowerment, Quotes
How does one become a butterly? You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar. ~ Trina Paulus

Motivation Monday:

Sometimes we really do have to shed the skin that is comfortable and venture straight into the unknown to make the significant changes we seek in our lives to feel fulfilled.

It's hard to give up what we know, why?

(1) It's comfortable

(2) We went through a lot just to get here, so we don't always want to embrace change

(3) The Unknown can be big and scary

But Ascending to a new level is a part of our journey, one we are not always pysched about, but often times it's just plain necessary. We learn how strong we are only at times we are challenged, only during the moments of growth that aren't always so willing to embrace. So instead of change forcing itself upon you, embrace it yourself and make small changes each day so that when your moment comes to give up being a caterpillar, you will be ready! Being an Ascending Butterfly means always being on a journey to rise higher than you were before.

We have a winner!

Congratulations to Milena B. (entry #27) winner of the Smooth Jazz Cruise Rafflcopter Giveaway for this Wednesday's Phil Perry sail! If you didn't win this time, no worries, our friends at Smooth Jazz will be back very soon for the rewind sail in October which has a really great lineup, you won't want to miss it! (And by the way the winning entry was a twitter entry, so always make sure you rack up as much extra credit as you can per giveaway because you never know which of your entries is the one that will win! Extra Credit really pays off!)

Active Giveaway:

Don't forget to get in your entry for a $100 shopping spree to In Bloom, this giveaway closes soon and you've got to be in it to win it!

Did you miss Latinista #Fashion Week? Highlights from @LatinistaFW including @cesargalindo “Czar” Collection SS14 #LatinistaFW

The Solo Event Space in New York City was the weekend hot spot where Latinista Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 took place!

Latinista Fashion Week is a twice yearly event that takes place during Fashion Week in NYC, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta and Washington DC. It serves as a platform for emerging Latin Designers to showcase their collection to both perspective Buyers as well as the Press.

As a top 100 Latina Blogger and Top 3 Big Apple Tweeter I had front row access this weekend to the shows that were kicked off by a welcome reception with Piel Canela Dancers who greeted the crowd by dancing Salsa and also kicked off Cesar Galindo's runway show with their energetic dancing!

The welcome reception before the show, was sponsored by Iman Cosmetics, who touched up my makeup and let me try out their BB Cream, Mirta de Perales, a hair care brand that is very well known to the Latina community who were handing out samples of their Linea Keratina (Keratin line of hair products) as well as their Collagen Elastin Face and Neck Cream with Vitamins A & E - which I definitely can't wait to try out! There were also haircare samples provided by Garnier Fructis of their Hydra Recharge line with Fruit Beads. Nail Lounge NY offered guests manicures (I didn't want to take off my recent mani from ten over ten since it was a color for Fall that hasn't even launched yet that I got at the Elements Showcase (more to come on that event soon!) so I didn't try out Nail Lounge NY but hope to try them out in the future!), Kiss Nail Dress also provided samples, I received the Classic Nail Dress in 'Garter' which I can't wait to put on! And not to be missed was the signature cocktail of the evening, 'The Latinista' of course, sponsored by Tequila Semental.

Here are some Photo Highlights for you to enjoy:

My Take:

I think it's amazingly important that both established and especially emerging Latin Designers have a forum and a showcase to share their talent and designs! Kudos to Latinista Fashion Week Founder, Dee Rivera, and Latina Magazine (exclusive official Media Partner) for joining forces to bring this multi-day branded entertainment environment together! They are providing opportunities for Fashion Designers and Sponsors to come face-to-face with not only principal tastemakers, celebs, musical talent and Media to meet but also consumers who are hungry for whats new, now and NEXT. I enjoyed the show and found many of the Fashion to be extremely approachable and wearable right off the runway. One of my standout faves was the purple dress, it was a standout color (that some wouldn't immediately associate with summer but I just love wearing year round) and it was so 'airy' and 'flowy' just perfect for summer resortwear!
