Have you checked out the new #restaurant menu options @olivegarden? Fall into #OGTastes

Press in different cities have had the option to try out the New Menu Options at Olive Garden and the tasting was recently offered in New York City at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Times Square, I had been reading other reviews of the menu posted by blogging pals in other cities, and was pretty stoked to get the chance to try it all out too.

There were old favorites that were re-configured and a few new noteworthy menu options for us to explore.

Menu Tasting Checklist! One hour, 9 courses + Dessert.

This is what went down:

Risotto Bites

Above: A blend of Italian Cheeses and rice that are lightly fried and served on top of Marinara Sauce.

Polenta Shrimp alla Greca

Above: Sautéed Shrimp on creamy Polenta that is topped with a fresh blend of olives, capers and tomato sauce.

Calabrian Wings

Above: Chicken Wings tossed with Garlic and chili peppers from the Italian region of Calabria served with a Gorgonzola dipping sauce. These will only be on the menu for a limited time, so catch it while you can! (These definitely have a spicy kick!)

Roasted Tomato Caprese Salad

Above: Mixed Greens, Kale, Basil. Olives, Roasted Tomato, Croutons and Fresh Mozzarella with an extra virgin olive oil drizzle, make this Salad a Stand Alone Standout!

Smashed Chicken Meatball Sandwich

Above: Chicken Meatballs, roasted bell peppers served on a Focaccia Bun. (I have to say this one is really good! Perfect for a quick lunch!)

Bucatini with Spicy Three Meat Sauce and Meatballs

Above: This dish is included as part of the current "Never Ending Pasta Bowl". From September 22nd through November 9th you can enjoy more than 150 pasta combinations, plus home-made soup or garden-fresh salad and fresh baked garlic breadsticks - unlimited. Starting at $9.99!

Chicken Abruzzi

Above: This Olive Garden Specialty Dish of Grilled Chicken Breast in a savory broth simmered with cannellini beans, kale and garden vegetables, is part of the "Lighter Italian Fare" menu and comes in at under 575 calories. (Fall comfort food at it's best!)

Grilled Chicken Butternut Squash Alfredo Fettuccine

Above: Chicken Breasts served on a bed of Fettuccine tossed with creamy roasted butternut squash alfredo and fresh spinach. This is a Fall Menu Item that will be available for a limited time only.

Pappardelle Pescatore

Above: Sautéed Shrimp, Bay Scallops, and Clams tossed with Pappardelle Pasta, fresh asparagus and tomato in a creamy red pepper seafood sauce. I am a seafood lover, and this was by far my favorite of the entire tasting menu. I will be going back for this one!

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Above: Pumpkin Cheesecake topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce and ginger cookie crumbles which is available for a Limited Time Only.

Frozen Margarita

MY TAKE:

My top three menu favorites were the Pappardelle Pescatore, Smashed Chicken Meatball Sandwich, and the Roasted Tomato Caprese Salad. Sadly I'm not a 'gourd' lover so the Chicken Butternut Squash and the Pumpkin Cheesecake were my least favorite (and that breaks my heart to say as I'm a cheesecake fanatic, but just don't like pumpkin.)

I love that Olive Garden always encourages guests to try out their wines and allow you to taste any wine that catches your eye on their beverage menu, with no obligation if it doesn't appeal to you. I'm a fan of their Moscato! (The ones on the menu are actually quite different in taste, and the server will help you figure out which pairs best with what which I truly appreciate!) I wanted to hold on to the last fleeting days of warm weather. and ordered a Frozen Margarita.

Bye! Bye! Summer, Hello FALL! Cozy Sweaters, great boots and comfort food are all signs of the season!

Butterflies what is your favorite Olive Garden Dish?

Surf and Turf Stuffed Mushrooms Recipe using @JimmyDean Pork Sausage Crumbles! #jdcrumbles

#spon: I'm required to disclose a relationship between our site and Jimmy Dean. This could include Jimmy Dean providing us with content, product access, or other forms of payment.

I personally think Surf and Turf is one of the best things ever! I can't get enough of it and when the folks at Jimmy Dean challenged me to use their Hearty Original Sausage Crumbles in a recipe, I knew right from the start I didn't want to do the obvious and go breakfast so I thought about some of my favorite recipes, and one of the ones that everyone asks me to make repeatedly, my 'Surf and Turf Stuffed Mushrooms' immediately came to mind!

I always end up having to increase the number of them each and every time I make them as they go super quickly! While I mostly make them as appetizers, they would make for a pretty unique breakfast as many of the ingredients could just as easily be used for an Omelette actually! Or if eggs are not your thing, then these would definitely make a great breakfast meal (or brunch if you are a late riser!)

Surf and Turf Stuffed Mushrooms Printable Recipe Card Ingredients

You can adjust the serving size to your preferences, but I find that 24 mushrooms work best (that would give six people four of them which works as an appetizer). You can also use any kind of mushroom you prefer, I like the buttery flavor that the organic ones have, but I have also prepared this recipe with Portobello Mushrooms, and do enjoy them that way also! I tend to add more Garden Vegetables to my recipe, but garlic, onion and pepper are the basic ones I use. If I am using a spicy sausage I will also use finely minced celery in the recipe. If you cut each shrimp into 'thirds' you should be able to stuff 24 mushrooms with a good ratio balance of shrimp to meat, but if you want thicker pieces add more shrimp to it, or cut each piece in half and not thirds. And while I didn't add it here, I also sometimes like to shred some sharp cheddar and mozarella cheese shaved thinly on top of each mushroom as I don't like adding cream cheese to mine. So feel free to play with the recipe to match it to your taste! If you are a spice fan, then feel free to substitute the hearty Original Sausage Crumbles with the Hot & Spicy instead.

I find it easier to clean the mushrooms first before doing anything else, I hold the stems on the side and then prepare the baking sheet and add the mushrooms to it, then I go about dicing the stems. Then I prepare the Shrimp (of course if you can buy them already de-veined you save a step), I add the veggies and mushroom stems to the skillet and then I add the Sausage and Shrimp, you don't have to heat them too long because you will be heating everything together in the oven, it's easier to mix the skillet ingredients with the parmesan and breadcrumbs to stuff faster, but you can also just stuff them with the skillet items first, and then sprinkle the breadcrumbs/cheese mixture on top. I like the on top way if I'm using Panko, and the mixed way if I'm using regular breadcrumbs. But again that's to your taste!

My Take:

I have made a ton of variations on this recipe over the years, sometimes I will make it with crab and a spicier sausage (like a Chorizo or Andouille), sometimes shrimp, and I have even done these with Salmon as the Seafood component (a hearty white fish would work well too!). What I love about the Jimmy Dean Hearty Original Sausage Crumbles is that they save me a step as they are already in bite size pieces and they are fully cooked! The meat adds loads of flavor and juiciness to each mushroom!

I'm all for things that save me a step, the faster I get out of the kitchen, the more time I have to spend with my guests!

For one night, America's favorite fast food @McDonalds went highbrow! #Photo Highlights from the #McDChefEvent

For one night America's favorite food went highbrow and gourmet, and I stand pleasantly surprised. Not that I'm surprised that McDonalds wasn't afraid to re-invent itself, but when I think gourmet they are not necessarily the first name that would have come to mind... Until now that is!

New York City Tastemakers, Press/Media, Bloggers, Nutritionists (and I even met a few dietitians and nurses in attendance) were all presented with a three course gourmet meal where Chefs came together to put a creative spin on the ingredients we all know and love.

Check out the menu:

Don't worry if the menu is a bit hard to decipher, here are the photos of the dishes with captions naming each dish below:

Kicking things off!

Above: This was the best Old Fashioned I have ever tasted! It Featured McDonald's Applewood Smoked Bacon as a Garnish with a Maraschino Cherry too and it was super flavorful and really delicious! So good in fact I forgot to sample or even photograph the other cocktail which was the Mango Pineapple Mojito that used McDonald's Mango Pineapple Smoothie as the Base! If only they added this to the menu at my local franchise location! LOL! This cocktail really does prove the theory that everything is better with bacon!

Above: For Dessert Chef Jessica Foust prepared a Pumpkin Spice 'Biznut' (Biscuit-Donut hybrid) which featured McDonald's Biscuit Mix, Pumpkin Spice Latte Syrup, Praline Topping, Cream Cheese and Whipped Cream. For those that know me I don't eat pumpkin flavored stuff and I don't tend to like Pralines much but I really enjoyed this and that was my absolute biggest surprise of the evening! Kudos to Chef Jessica she worked her tail off with the Cocktails, Hor D'oeuvres, Entree Three and Dessert all being done by her!

Big Mac inspired macaroons
Check out the Big Mac inspired macaroons in the little gift box on the left of the coffee cup for us to take home!

Above: See the cute gift box to the left of the coffee cup? That little big mac inside which replicates the details of an actual McDonald's Big Mac to the tee, is actually comprised of Macaroons! The pain staking detail was off the hook, and it was really good too! (and odd for me because I'm usually not a big Macaroon fan).

Ascending Butterfly and Melanie are both RMHC Ambassadors, that Ambassadorship is a pro-bono one as well and it is NOT compensated! I was excited to be reunited with my team-mates from my recent Chicago Immersion Experience!

My Take:

I love events that help you see a brand you think you know in an entirely new light. This was unique, super creative and fun. I have always been a creative cook and that's what I appreciated most about this event, none of the ingredients weren't something you can't find and they were all ingredients that McDonald's uses daily, just prepared in a whole new way!

They have also been offering more 'healthy' choices on their menu and we learned that for 2014 you will have the choice of getting a side salad as an alternative to French Fries with an Extra Value Meal! I know many people have been asking about this for awhile now, they really are listening folks!

Which Dish would you have loved to try most? (Sorry it's been so long, hopefully they will come back for a giveaway soon!)

Being based in New York City affords me a wealth of events to attend pretty much daily, but this has to be the most unique pairing and most interesting event I've attended lately! FAGE sponsored the show and they offered a tasting during intermission! Brilliant! I'd love to see more brands partner with New York Philharmonic to bring unique intermission experiences to an already iconic New York Institution!

{#Review + #Giveaway} I Took The Gorton's Seafood (@gortonsseafood ) Challenge & You Can Too!

GORTON'S SEAFOOD CHALLENGE:

Gortons Seafood Challenge, Gorton's Seafood

I am a seafood lover, and when I go on vacation it's my favorite part of being near the sea. I like tropical vacations, I guess it's from growing up in the North East where it's cold more months of the year than it is hot. For me a getaway means being by the Beach: palm trees, drinks served in coconuts and some kind of seafood = VACATION.

But when there is no time for a getaway, or I'm nowhere near the beach, or just want seafood for dinner I have always turned to Gorton's Seafood, much like the commercials, I do trust the Gorton's Fisherman, it's what I grew up on when I was younger and the brand I still buy today.

When Gorton's put out the Seafood Challenge, I couldn't resist participating! Gorton's is encouraging families to eat seafood twice a week and they have a collection of recipes as well as 20 products that are 200 calories or less to help encourage a healthy diet!

Gortons, Gorton's Seafood, Grilled Salmon, Fish

There are numerous benefits to eating fish:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - They contain Omega-3 fatty acids (my personal fave, Salmon, is very high in Omega-3's)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Promote Heart Health

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Decrease Blood Pressure, triglycerides and cholesterol levels

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Improve Arthritis and Joint Pain

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Lessens symptoms of Depression

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Lessens symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Supports Eye Health

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Enhances Brain Growth and Development

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Aids Brain Growth in unborn babies, infants and kids

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Decreases the risks for certain Cancers (We have done quite a bit of Cancer related Coverage this week, if you missed our coverage, read HERE and HERE)

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Reduces the symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease

Try it in a RECIPE:

Part of the challenge was to try out a Gorton's Seafood under 200 Calories Product in a recipe, and I prepared one of my favorites: SHRIMP and SAUSAGE STUFFED MUSHROOMS:

Shrimp and Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms
@Wizard Recipes

But I substituted my recipe and instead of using the shrimp from the local fish market I used Gorton's Shrimp Scampi for an extra kick of flavor!

Ingredients:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 box of Gorton's Shrimp Scampi
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 Kielbasa or Andouille Sausage
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 medium yellow or red onion, diced
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 small green pepper, diced
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 tsp of diced Garlic
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1tbsp balsamic vinegar
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1tsp of AllSpice
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 box of Panko
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1tbsp Mayo
Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - 1 tbsp Mustard

Directions:

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Pan Fry Chopped/Diced Sausage until done, set aside

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Saute onion, pepper and garlic

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - Add Chopped/Diced Shrimp

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ - A bit before the shrimp are actually done, mix (Sausage, Shrimp, onion, Pepper Garlic) into a bowl, add Mayo, Mustard, worcestershire sauce and balsamic and mix together evenly, I prefer to mix in my Panko, but if you prefer the Panko on top and not mixed into the mixture then go ahead and spoon the mix into your preferred mushrooms (organic, portobello etc), if you prefer Panko mixed in like I do, all you need to do is sprinkle with a little four cheese mix (if you don't like cheese or don't wish to add cheese you can skip this step) and if you didn't mix in the panko, you would now put it on top of the mushrooms.

Serving Suggestion: You can plate them with sliced lemon as shown above. If you do not eat meat you can omit the sausage and just add extra veggies!

I also used the Gorton's Tilapia to make Fish Tacos, and those definitely went over well!

Gortons Tilapia Fish Tacos Plated

These can also be made with the Crunchy Breaded Tilapia Fillets for a bolder, crunchier taco!

Win It! - Our friends at Gorton's want you to take the Seafood Challenge too!
