Today's Words of Inspiration - Time to Regroup!





It's been an eventful past 2 days and I really need to re-group! I posted Friday morning on Ascending Butterfly's Facebook page that my mom was going into surgery and asked for prayers. I wanted to thank all those who posted on Facebook and sent me Tweets of prayers and encouragement for my mom. 'Mama Butterfly' is at home and resting and came out of her surgery well. While she has 8 weeks of Physical Therapy ahead to regain full mobility, she is resting, and as always, she is in good spirits. She is the most courageous person I know!

This butterfly needs to re-group, I'm physically and emotionally exhausted, certainly grateful, but in need of some downtime. So please don't be nervous if your entries for the spotlight handbag don't appear right away, I will be taking some time off this weekend, and will get caught up with emails and entries during the week!

Today's Words of Inspiration - Happy International Women's Day!



What does being a Modern Woman mean to you? Does it mean endless opportunity personally and professionally? A destiny you shape yourself?

What did being a Woman mean to your Mother? Your Grand-Mother? and if you are lucky enough to still be able to ask her, your great-grandmother?

IWD is now an official holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

Annually on March 8th, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Many global corporations have also started to more actively support IWD by running their own internal events and through supporting external ones. For example, on 8 March search engine and media giant Google some years even changes its logo on its global search pages. Year on year IWD is certainly increasing in status. The United States even designates the whole month of March as 'Women's History Month'.

So make a difference, think globally and act locally !! Make everyday International Women's Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

I just had to begin by thanking those of you who have emailed, tweeted, and sent facebook messages to me of encouragement on my Mom's Central Consulting Grow Your Personal Brand Grant Essay. Your votes are appreciated, but your support really made my day!

Today's Words of Inspiration! - Where is YOUR brand headed?



I am a finalist in Mom Central Consulting's 'Grow Your Personal Brand' Grant Program. I would love your vote, but I would also love for you to read my entry. My essay is entitled 'Project Chrysalis'. We recently switched to our new domain, we are now officially http://www.ascendingbutterfly.com/ and we have dropped the .blogspot part of our name, this is still a place where my creativity is shared, a place where I  affirm daily the best in myself so I can see the best not only in myself, but others. I've seen the world around me change as I've embraced daily affirmations and I hope you have too! You can vote daily (every 24 hours) until April 15th.

I also hope that reading my entry gives you a better understanding of where I am headed, where this site is headed and I hope that you will also answer those same questions for yourself. We Need To Catch Up

Butterflies there is so much going on, and literally a ton to share! I think I've lived a month in a weekend! And I promise catch up posts about everything going on are coming!

Love Month

Taking Stock

Whether married or single, I hope this is a day of taking stock of all the love in your life! Roses are beautiful, but this holiday is about Love. Candy is sweet, flowers are pretty and jewelry does dazzle, but Love is so many other things! It's the friend you can call at midnight because you need an ear, it's the husband that made breakfast, took out the garbage and got the kids to school so you could sleep in, it's the wife who greeted you with heart shaped pancakes, the baby that lights up when you walk in the room! It's your parents who love you unconditionally!

What started out one Valentine's Day as a night where the weather was bad and none of my single friends wanted to venture into the city, became a ritual that even our married friends want to join in on now. We get together and have home spa treatments like facial masks combined with Margaritas, coupled with girl talk, and tons of laughs!

Today, don't measure how much you are loved by the number of gifts you receive or admirers that you have, measure it in the daily ways that love manifests itself in your life!

Today's Words of Inspiration - Year of the Metal Rabbit

'Gung Hay Fat Choy' means "Best wishes and Congratulations. Have a prosperous and good year." Today is the Chinese New Year and as many of you now know, it's the year of the Rabbit!

Are any of you born under the year of the rabbit?

THE RABBIT PERSONALITY

A person born in the year of the Rabbit possesses one of the most fortunate of the twelve animal signs. The Rabbit, or Hare as he is referred to in Chinese mythology, is the emblem of longevity and is said to derive his essence from the Moon. The Rabbit symbolizes graciousness, good manners, sound counsel kindness and sensitivity to beauty. His soft speech and graceful and nimble ways embody all the desirable traits of a successful diplomat or seasoned politician.

Likewise, a person born under this sign will lead a tranquil life, enjoying peace, quiet and a congenial environment. He is reserved and artistic and possesses good judgment. His thoroughness will also make him a good scholar. He will shine in the fields of law, politics and government.

But he is also inclined to be moody; at such times he appears detached from his environment or indifferent to people.

The Rabbit is extremely lucky in business and monetary transactions. Astute at striking bargains, he can always pop up with a suitable proposal or alternative to benefit himself. His sharp business acumen, coupled with his knack for negotiation, will ensure him a fast rise in any career.

THE RABBIT CHILD

A child born in the Rabbit's year will have a sweet disposition. Even-tempered and obedient, he will be sensitive to the moods of his parents and act accordingly. He may or may not be talkative, but he won't be rowdy or offensive. He can sit quietly and concentrate on one toy or game at a time.

Usually he is a light sleeper and may fret a lot when he is sick. He will be easy to discipline and should have little trouble fitting in at school. He learns his lessons well and with ease. But although he has better than average manners, this does not mean he will not be argumentative in his own soft-spoken way. He can grasp both sides of a question quickly and debate his point with intelligence.

At times, it will be difficult to decipher his thoughts or deeds. Smooth at masking his feelings, the Rabbit will only say what he knows will please you and thus maneuver you to his way of thinking without your even noticing it.

He will be able to fend for himself and protect his possessions. Remarkably observant, he can calculate his chances for getting his way. Instead of directly resisting rules, the subtle Rabbit will carefully devise ways around them. In short, this polite little angel is going to bargain for a better deal every time.

He can take reproach with a defiant or philosophical sort of indifference. Shrugging off his setbacks, the Rabbit will patiently start again from square one. Helpful at home, conforming in school and well-tuned to his environment, this child will know his way around people and problems. Rest assured he will be well-liked and accepted in all circles.

So what does it mean to be 'Metal'?

In Chinese Taoist thought, Metal attributes are consideried to be firmness, rigidity, persistence, strength and determination. The metal person is controlling, ambitious, forceful and set in their ways as metal is very strong; and they are self-reliant and prefer to handle their problems alone. The metal person is also materialistic, business oriented and good at organization and stability. However the metal person can also appreciate luxury and enjoy the good things in life. Just as metal can conduct electricity, the Metal person has strong impulses and generative powers and can bring about changes and transformations for those who come into contact with them.

In Chinese Medicine, metal governs the Lung and the Large intestine, nose and skin. The negative emotion associated with metal is grief, while the positive emotion is courage. Many sources aimed at a Western audience equate Metal with the attributes of the element Air.

Things to expect in a Rabbit Year

Good taste and refinement will shine on everything and people will acknowledge that persuasion is better than force. A congenial time in which diplomacy, international relations and politics will be given a front seat again. We will act with discretion and make reasonable concessions without too much difficulty. Money can be made without too much labor. Our life style will be languid and leisurely as we allow ourselves the luxuries we have always craved for. A temperate year with unhurried pace. For once, it may seem possible for us to be carefree and happy without too many annoyances. We will all have a tendency to put off disagreeable tasks as long as possible. <-I am finding this part to be true already! :)

I am not going to sugarcoat this one or say that this easy to do. I understand full well that casting excuses aside and going for your biggest dream is sometimes way easier said than done. But what I want you to explore today, is Why is that? If you can get to the root of the Excuse you can learn how to overcome it.

There is no shame in failure. Think of your failures like facets on a Diamond, they were sent to polish you and ultimately make you more beautiful. Make you stronger and more confident in who you are. They teach you what you really value in life. What you really want out of life, and by all means what you absolutely won't accept. These are powerful things to know!

 Ah Those Tricky Virtues!

Learn the art of patience. Apply discipline to your thoughts when they become anxious over the outcome of a goal. Impatience breeds anxiety, fear, discouragement and failure. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness, and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success. ~ Brian Adams

Patience is one of those pesky little virtues that life constantly puts to the test. And sometimes dear readers, I pass with flying colors. And other times, well, Not So Much!

These week has been a true test of patience on many levels. My PC which is my pretty much lifeline is acting completely wonky, but it's only a few months old! It was purchased mid 2010 and has not even made a full year. It was purchased to replace a dying laptop from the same manufacturer. I guess in this instance brand loyalty, did NOT serve me well. At one point it wouldn't even power on, and I really thought I'd lost a year's worth of music and pictures not to mention my blog back up files.....I haven't been able to process entries or respond to emails in the timely manner I am used to handling things. This week has not made for a happy camper!

This week has also shown me I have a TON more to learn about Patience. Like most I am super glad 2010 is behind me, but I don't want 2011 to be a repeat in any way and to do so, I need to learn to better master the art of patience!

Today's Challenge: So How do you Keep your Cool, when it's hot as Hades in your Life?

The heat is on, certainly not literally we have back to back snow storms in the City that never sleeps, but figuratively speaking it's getting HOT in here! This week deep breathing, affirmations, every positive tool in my arsenal flew out the window. Leaving me quite confused! That's why I'm happy I came across this quote, it served as an instant reminder that my impatience and frustration with the challenges and obstacles I've faced this week, are only putting me in a 'negative catch 22' the more impatient I was about the work piling up that I could not conquer because my PC was down, kept me from doing things that I very well COULD have accomplished. Impatience actually zapped my productivity! Not fun, but lesson certainly learned, and now shared with you!

The Grass is ALWAYS greener on the other Side! Well isn't it?

 How Green is YOUR Grass?

First, you didn't have grass, so you just wanted Grass. Then you got that Grass, and before you took the time to even enjoy it, you saw someone else had a lawn, and then you wanted that Lawn. That big, lush, manicured lawn with life-sized Topiaries. What happened to those simpler times when you would have been just happy with the grass?

Don't worry about how big, how lush, or how much greener the neighbor's lawn might be, roll around in your own. Be grateful for the one you have. Give THANKS for the patch you have. It won't ever be bigger, fuller, lusher, or prettier until you enjoy it, RIGHT NOW, AS IS. Yes, as is.

Today's Challenge: See How Green Your Grass Really Is

Yes, your grass is green! You worked hard for that grass. So enjoy it. Make some memories! Go toss the ball around with the kids, play fetch with the dog, lay down and look at the clouds and try to find different shapes in them. Or tonight just lay out on it and count the stars. Have a cookout with your friends and neighbors. Later in life you won't even care or remember how lush that grass was, but you will remember the memories you created there. Don't fall victim to the 'grass is always greener mentality', Be a Victor and be Thankful for the grass you've got! Whether it's astro turf or crabgrass, it's YOURS, and that is something to be PROUD of! That doesn't mean I don't encourage you to reach higher, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a goal to reach toward, just enjoy your current achievements along the way.
